South Park: The Stick of Truth has been censored in EU (only consoles affected)

South Park: The Stick of Truth reportedly has seven censored scenes in Europe, The Middle East and Africa.

UPDATE: our local Ubisoft rep has been in touch to say that the censorship is purely a marketing decision and that the scenes are also censored in the UK.

ORIGINAL STORY: BT.com reports that the scenes in question have been replaced with on-screen text that describes what’s happening behind the censorship.

The site adds that documentation sent with its review copy confirms that a mini-game involving a doctor performing an abortion on the player and again with the player performing the same procedure on Randy Marsh, as well as five anal probe scenes have been censored.

The accompanying literature adds, “Seven scenes of about 20 seconds each are censored in the EMEA console versions of South Park: The Stick of Truth. The decision to cut this content from the game was made by Ubisoft EMEA.”

AGB has scanned the document in full here.

South Park: The Stick of Truth appeared to remain intact in the UK, where it bears a PEGI 18 rating. We’re waiting to hear from Ubisoft on the matter.

Meanwhile; the Australian edition also has anal probe scenes edited out.

not happy about this tbh

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
On the PC side, either the censorship doesn't apply to, at least, the ROW Steam pre-order sub or Ubi has censored the game worldwide. As I just mentioned in the South Park OT, Ubi US needs to weigh in.

Oh yeah the article does specify "console versions". That's weird though. There's a retail PC version too. Why should that be any different?

''Hey marketing team, how can we market South Park The Stick of Truth in Europe?''

''Commercials?'' ''Exclusive pre-order deals?'' ''Censorship?''

In Finland Ubisoft is still selling the PC download version in their Uplay store as "Non-censored version". Who knows.

So I can't have it gifted on steam, it's censored in Australia, and now I can't import it from the UK either? God fucking damn it.

It shouldn't but if Ubi does intend to censor the game in Europe then it may change the subs European keys are set to activate (a huge hassle but nonetheless a possibility). On the other hand, even if Ubi would like to censor the PC version it may feel that ship has sailed and just let the PC version remain uncensored (assuming it is uncensored, which is why we need Ubi US to issue a statement).

Watch the Pc version get a special edition sold on ubisofts own site, called....
South Park: the Stick of Truth Bigger longer and uncut

Not happy about this. When was the last time a game was censored in the UK? I generally thought we got off lightly on things like this.

I can't remember the last game we had censored in the UK. Pretty disappointed by this but the game should still be awesome regardless.

Wouldn't be an Obsidian title without lots of things to patch.

Pretty annoying they've decided to censor it for the UK too. I guess I'll have to import, does anyone know if the PS360 versions will be region free?

Everything except Persona 4 Arena is region free on PS3.

Also how nice of Ubi to take pre-orders for quite some time and then inform people about this shortly before release. Assholes.

Dropping this here too:

Each censored scene is replaced by an image background and description text selected by Matt & Trey.

Oh, I can only imagine how much worse that text could be. Matt & Trey don't back down easy.

lel. Ubishit being shit, nothing new.
I had doubts about getting the pc version or not, now I don't.

anyway

• A mini-game in which the doctor is performing an abortion on the player

• A mini-game in whichthe player is performing an abortion on the character Randy

• Five anal probing scenes involving someone actively being probed. The scenes play out as normal before and after the active probing sequences
looking good.

I thought Europe was more lax on this stuff? If anything US should be getting this censorship.

Why are the European versions of M rated games getting censored so often now?

Beyond:Two Souls

Though it isn't yet known what content has been censored, Alexander claims that only 5-10 seconds of gameplay has been edited to ensure a PEGI 16 rating, and that it "does not affect the game's story at all".

"There are only two amends between the EU and US versions of the game, amounting to about 5-10 seconds of gameplay that's not been removed, just edited slightly to be in line with a PEGI 16 rating," Alexander said while responding to comments on the EU PlayStation Blog.

Just the absolute worst example of PR cowardice. utterly contemptible.

Sony has censored four of their 2013 titles. Twisted Metal, God of War Ascension, The Last of Us and Beyond Two Souls. Sony is very bad at this thing and it seems Ubisoft is joining them at being shitty.

I actually canceled my Beyond Two Souls preorder because of this and decided not to buy Last of Us.

Ah yes, I'd forgotten that the PS3 was mostly region free. I guess I'll be importing then. Thanks for the reminder.

One last question, can anyone recommend a good, reliable site for importing from the US to UK?

I guess it's more of a "how can we lower the PEGI rating?" or "how can we avoid getting sued by the Head-Stuck-On-Ass Parents Group?" thing.

Create a US account on PSN and buy prepaid cards from Amazon.com ($50+$10), then buy digital South Park on PSN. That way you won't have to pay heavy shipping fees.
