NPD Sales Results for February 2014 [Up2: PS4/XB1/Wii U/360 Hardware, BD/Poke/DK]

Can't be said enough.

My Local News had a bit on it Wednesday morning with the other quick b-roll stuff. Heck, the only time they cover video-games is when it relates to a Murder, a Trial, or some hair-brained study.

It was favorable too.
interesting, got a link to the vid?

These numbers are wrong because some people here told me that consoles are dead.

I hope Square Enix took a lump sum for Bravely Default based on their idiotic projections instead of royalty on each copy, because they don't really deserve a penny from these sales.

----------

PS4 weekly avg. in January: ~68k
PS4 weekly avg. in February: ~72k

I guess that's all Sony can ship to the US. Using 75k as an average, we would have 375k in 5 weeks for March, hypothetically. Unless Sony has a secret stock, it seems an easy bet the Xbox One will be ahead.
Yeah, SE does not deserve any money for developing the game at all.

Unfortunately, I'm not convinced that this will send a good message to Konami. I can sadly imagine it getting mothballed next to Silent Hill in reaction to how poorly LoS2 has done.

I firmly believe that making Castlevania an either/or franchise this gen really hurt its long term prospects. There was no reason why IGA couldn't have continued doing low-budget but profitable handheld titles while Mercury Steam was doing their thing on consoles.

Yeah. Iga Castlevania games are guilty pleasures of mine. Most of them are good.

Konami please.

LTD for Wii u fanboy

Rayman ~ 99k
MH3U ~ 97k
S:LW ~ 94k
TW101 ~ 65k

Sonic & Mario at the Olympics by any chance?

MH3U seems decent, should be over 100K with counting digital sales.

I hope that's the case because that stuff was very weak in the first two games. But man, Sucker Punch hasn't done a good job convincing me that Delsin is likable at all.

It's still a tad disappointing that the actual game looks so similar once you get past the pretties.

Hmm, I though anti-heroes were the big new thing now? Gone are the days of Superman just wrecking shit and shooting at everyone, we need characters with depth, good guys with a dark side. A hero that believes the end justifies the means.

It was one their short 30 seconds bits around 7am (guess what this study says, guess what you should eat, guess what big game is going to rock Johnnys world). Doesn't look like it's on the site, unless my googlegese is failing me.

Edit: Found this.

My guess is they based the bit on this AP story and accompanying B-roll (not on the site)

Huh wow that would mean XB1 was very close this month, very very close

But it's like 260K people went out to buy an Xone vs. Sony providing 270K (2 months in a row) for the US market.

March will be interesting, could be again how many will go out to buy an Xone vs. how many will Sony ship to US.

I knew BD was going to do well, but I didn't expect it to stomp all over Dankey Kang.

Take notes, Nintendo. The #platformerthirst is losing steam, start broadening that genre portfolio like you used to.

This is no fair imo, he was a junior why the hell would he had to know who that person is, why cant he question him?, it doesnt make any sense to me really.

Mort already made it clear that hes just passing off what he's heard, there was no need for that smart ass remark of his. Its not like he was adopting it as the universal truth or even his opinion. He didnt need to be a Member to read some posts in this thread.

March is going to be really, really interesting.

you have titanfall moving XB1s vs. Infamous + Ground Zeroes moving PS4s, and on top of that you still have sony's supply constraints.

One thing to consider is that production was lower due to the Chinese new year, and stock available to western markets was lower due to the Japanese launch.

Supply should continue to improve in March.

I think both XB1 and PS4 will sell more than 400K in March.

TF is nothing like gears. Gears was in the second year of xbox life on a cheaper system, had an epic campaign, co-op, and was a graphics showcase for next gen.

TF is much more limited in it's appeal, and wont come close to gears.

Infamous looks a lot better then just infamous, looks like the series took a big leap, TF looks like a last gen game with limited modes, and really is mroe of the same MP gameplay.

Maybe. I am not saying it is Gears, just that it may have the same impact.

Gears hit around the time the PS3 launched as I recall. This of course is a different situation where both consoles were released around the same time.

So we have a different situation. MS got straight up Bioshock, Oblivion, COD2 as exclusives for awhile just as a matter of existing sooner.

Neither console has the straight up advantage of simply getting 3rd party exclusives because of timing of release. This is new. PS4 is getting 3rd party advantage by being a more powerful machine. Games just play and look better on it thus far. The MS advantage is exclusives , and that is arguable. But I do not see Infamous suddenly becoming super compelling unless it is simply an awesome game that cannot be ignored. And Sony is not putting anything close to the marketing for Infamous, which is middling when it comes to sales historically as MS is putting behind Titanfall.

Not that it matters which game is better or gets the most press. But Titanfall has the benefit of the complete backing of MS and EA, and Infamous, as far as the marketing I have seen, has been presented as another game in the PS4 library. Again, we will see. One game IMO has been well marketed as an event, and the other despite potential quality, has been marketed as a part of a library of games along with third party games that appear on both systems.

How many XB1's did Microsoft sell in January again? What was it like 145K or something? Decent bump in sales from last month if that is true.

I am surprised to see that Sony cannot ship more PS4's to the U.S. than this. Why are they still having such supply problems? I guess that Asian launch didn't help matters.

I still say they should've help off the Asian launch until the summertime and sent that extra stock of PS4's to the U.S.

Ben will save Infamous ;)

The PS4 was sold out in the U.S. in Feb, how did it still outsell the Xbox One (that has been in stock everywhere since launch)? This looks good for The Xbox One to the layman.

I really hope that Monster Hunter on Wii U has put up respectable digital numbers. I desperately want MH4U to come to the Wii U as I just cannot get into the game on a small screen. Please?

Didn't it sell solidly in Japan? That should count for something.

How is getting outsold by its competitor good in any way for the Xbox?

It's pretty silly to compare the two. DK was out for 8 days while BD had 3 weeks. Not to mention the 3DS has 5x the user base.

And PS3 and 360. I think, he's thinking going by resolutions, more people will buy a PS4 for it. I would expect that with TPP but not GZ.

I think the type of gamer who buys Metal Gear Solid would be very likely to early adopt a new console. It's a very core gamer oriented franchise. The yearly best seller list on Amazon has the PS4 version of GZ at #30 while no other version is even ranked. The PS4 version is charting higher than PS3 on Gamestop as well. Honestly, Phantom Pain launching in late 2015/possibly 2016 as a crossgen release is completely laughable and a total waste of resources.

I dunno man. TitanFall is an event because MS made it one with there big marketing campaign. They keep giving away bundles and dropping prices to clear stock and plastering TF everywhere. Consumers might be aware of something (God of War Ascension super bowl commercial) and if have little impact on overall sales. With the strong reviews, TF is in good standing with word-of-mouth and enthusiasts, but I'm not sure a MP only game is just going to blow Infamous out of the water, who the heck doesn't understand the concept of playing as a super hero?

Seahawk fans will love Infamous too '-)

I do not think it is going to blow Infamous out of the water. I really do not see them as head to head games considering genre and such. Infamous is going to sell what it sells despite Titanfall. That will probably be 250-350kish NPD. Titanfall will be closer to a million is my guess. And I am on Neogaf, so I am an expert on such things.

I think people have too high of expectations here. Sucker Punch has their same people and this is their first game on the new hardware. They're not going to reinvent the wheel on an established franchise on the first new hardware game. Like battlefield, Killzone, Forza, CoD, it's another iteration of a series that you either enjoyed previously and therefore will enjoy now, or of you hated the series previously, this game won't change your mind.

Just because we have new hardware and more RAM, doesn't mean these same companies are going to produce vastly different experiences (revolutionary gameplay) on their established franchises.

I agree. More & more people are picking up PS4's & it's games over PS3's & it's games now.

PS3's now 7 years old, & gamers everywhere are ready to move on from it.

A stat that is overlooked in these numbers is that XBOX took down 48% of the entire gaming market. Those are incredible numbers IMHO. The Xbox 360 is still selling really well all things considered.

I'd hope so. As a fan of the first two games I want an Infamous game. Not something else with an Infamous title. :p

Illness is the doctor to whom we pay most heed; to kindness, to knowledge, we make promise only; pain we obey.
There's no way of knowing how many units are produced every month of the PS4 and Xbone, right?

Which "leaker" on GAF claimed that ntkrnl was a controlled leak done by Microsoft to provoke some good news because of the "embarrassin" NPD sales this month? Lol.

Not a bad month for either the Xbox One or PS4.
