Smug has a much better chance than snake tbh, snake just has not been doing too well against the Japanese players of late. He is even losing to players like Nuckledu and Chris Tartarian recently, maybe it's the nerfs to Gief mixed in with the buffs to Ken and Guile, but it is what is. I'm pretty happy with the choice.

Last big tournament, Smug should have beaten Momochi but dropped his combo (which is rare for him).

Yeah I'm also happy Smug got in on this instead of Snake. He did amazing in the FR money matches vs international players so I can't wait to see him bop some people at this event as well.

Put your money on Sako winning. He's on equal footing with Daigo when it comes to long sets and he's due a win. Don't bet on Smug. Newcomers always get bopped.

Im gonna ask this here and hope someone can help answer

There are various tournaments that have charity donations/links and sometimes people in this thread do their own charity events based on what they play, etc

I encountered a problem trying to set up something similar to my tournaments because i am based in Kuwait almost every popular service that people use, is unusable for me (for example i can receive money via paypal but i cant transfer it to a kuwaiti bank...so i cant touch the money)

thankfully this year i partnered with a group that has something set up online, but what about the future and what other options can i look at?

I looked at stuff like wepay and they dont support international yet

So what do you guys use or recommend?

Why can't Topanga use twitch? I would give them money. Topanga needs to stop being so Japan-centric or Niconico needs to become more world-friendly.

If you knew how pay-per-view streams worked on Twitch, you would understand why no one uses Twitch for that. It's very easy to work around Twitch's stream paywall.

Sounds like Twitch is leaving a lot of money on the table. Someone should ask Mike when he's gonna get that fixed

Jumping around between Persona, uniel, GG last night. Despite all the flack the game gets, the easiest game to find matches in was Persona(with GG closely following and uniel online a graveyard). Guess people want their last shot with 1.1

I don't think they're losing a ton of money over it, to be honest. Yeah the fact that it's broken as it is sucks, but they also have a ton of other engineering issues (things like how god awful their web player is, or how bad archives currently are), mainly due to their growth outrunning their ability to keep up. Even if they did fix that, Their biggest streams wouldn't go to pay-per-view, although it might introduce some new PPV events, as it can work (and Topanga is probably of the best examples of that). Specifically with Topanga, I also suspect that they have a business arrangement with NicoNico (so you're more likely to see it on NicoNico's global site, if anything).

Gizmo is the best.

This deserved to be quoted more. :/

I wonder why Capcom doesn't try to make the Topanga streams available here? Let Topanga do their thing, but ask to make the stream available internationally for the good of the game. Take all the logistics for that off their hands, etc.

Capcom's using a structure much closer in execution to what we see in TCG events, rather than E-Sports, and it's a really, really good call for them. "Invite only" showcases are nice on occasion, but the real hype is in the open-bracket tournaments, where you can get something like a Pepeday or NYCFurby situation with someone completely over-performing and making a name for themselves.

Yea, it's probably not a lot of money to Twitch, but I think there's room for a few new FGC events to establish themselves as ppv and really make some money as they build themselves up. At the very least, it'd be nice to see people have an actual chance and give it a shot.

lol it's 2015 and they're still using that crappy flash player

That's like expecting the Capcom Pro Tour to be streamed on Hitbox.tv. Much like how CPT is a twitch sponsored series, Topanga is a nicovideo sponsored series. They aren't going to broadcast on a rival platform.

wait so does that mean japan considers smug as the best american player right now?

Probably not. He's just the more interesting player because he plays a character that isn't played much at a high level and hasn't really been as exposed to a big audience like Snake and the other known American players.

Not necessarily, he may have been invited more so due to the fact that he will make for more exciting matches. His Dudley is a huge change of pace from Snake's Zangief or Die's Guile where you're slowly and methodically trying to keep one out and chase the other one down. Dudley against most of his opponents will be in your face, fast pace, lots of damage, lots of counter hits, and we'll see more comebacks whether it's him or his opponent. Win or lose he'll make the matches more exciting and honestly I'm glad it's him rather than Dieminion or Snake. I want to see this guy on the stage with the best of the best and see what he can do in long sets.

Anyways I'm glad we have this right after NCR and Hypespotting. I thought we were going to have 2 weekends with nothing to watch until Northwest Major. But this nicely fills in part of the gap.

Will we be able to watch outside of Japan tho? Let us pray

I managed to watch Topanga World from last year with the help from a guy(goes by forgenjuro) who is staying in Japan. He's friends with USD and help her get a ticket and he helped me when I asked USD who then asked him. I think he actually did commentary with Zhi at the USF4 TGS tourney last year. But anyways, I have no idea what to do this year unless we get some assistance.

Wouldn't mind doing a private GAF stream either if I could get a account and one of us can stream it. That's what I did last year with Kadey streaming it, hardly anybody got on to watch it though. Saying this won't get me banned will it Shouta? I was just kidding if it does :(

Forgenjuro is the guy that runs Team Black Eye I.e. Nemo, Abegen, Takumi, Dora, Ao, KBR, etc.

DOA5 is pretty lenient on input time for comboes.

i like that.

i also like how almost everything comboes, so you can get somewhat creative.

I think the reason barely anyone tuned in was because of the time it aired.

I remember being pissed off because Nico wouldn't accept my credit card.

Smug going to Topanga World is great for him. I don't really expect him to win it or honestly place well, but instead just get a HUGE amount of much needed experience with international players. This is going to be an incredibly huge opportunity for him to experience something super unique. Money matches are one thing, but this is a totally different environment and a great opportunity.

Even if he places last in the event, he's already won because of the knowledge and experience he can get from just being there. That's awesome for him.

I agree. Smug has not yet reached his final form.

Okay, here's something that's been buggin' me for a minute:

who the hell is "Tru3ta1ent"???

British taller Honzo Gonzo. He has a really good Bison and he plays various games. A nice guy who really interacts with his stream chat and isn't full of himself. His stream is part of FGCpros.
This deserved to be quoted more. :/

Okay, so Truetalent is someone. I always see him on the FGCPros stream when nothing else is going on - but he's never streaming fighting games. He has a FG viewer base, though, so it was always confusing as hell. Glad to hear he's not just a leech.
How does someone become a "major dark souls/bloodborne streamer"? Are there enough of them to distinguish one for their importance?
major as in thats a majority of his stream time and has decent amount of viewers during the stream.

pretty good dark souls pvper too.
