NPD Sales Results for April 2015 [Up1: Xbox One #1]

Hmm...xbone #1? How?
I don't remember there being any crazy deals or any big exclusive game for April
The only thing I can think of is that PS4 just had a lul in sales after so many people getting one in March.
Also I think there were some decent X1 deals on Amazon and Best Buy

frontloaded niche game. It's not surprising it dropped off.

Is it that surprising?

It's a niche game with a dedicated audience.

It's really not a mass market title or a system seller to anything but its small devoted audience.

I'm not sure why people thought otherwise, though it does seem a common sentiment. Maybe the number of GAF posts are confusing people as to its relevance.

So.... Are we back to agreeing Bloodborne and Souls in general are niche games despite selling 1-2 million?

It's nice that the competition isn't over yet. I doubt MS will ever catch up, but I don't want either of them to crash and burn

Surprised Bloodborne has already gone

Seems the PC release of GTA V sold really well then.

2.3 million sold on Steam, and that doesn't include all other online distributors, digital distributors or physical sales, since they all use Rockstar Social Club. So it certainly seems very successful.

I'm a PS4 owner and I really feel they deserve it, after Sony fuck ups with R&C and UC4 delays, stating Tearaway as a big holiday exclusive we should be excited about (I'm not disrespectful for this game but it's still a late Vita port), telling us NMS is like a first party title... outside of BB I'm really disappointed by their line up up until now and what seems to be their line up for 2015.

lol, I'm sure they're absolutely reeling from this one month of being randomly and slightly outsold. Your vengeance has been felt Gurish.

It's nice for MS but it's also incredibly random. No big releases outside of maybe State of Decay and no big deals as far as I'm aware.

Maybe it's just an Xbox gaining more traction type of situation. Either that or just a one month anomaly. I guess we'll see.

Didnt one of the retailers have a trade in promotion of US$175 trade in towards an XBO?

Edit: forgot how fast these threads move

Xbox One had a $125 credit trade-in deal for last gen consoles, a bunch of gift-card/free game/free controller/free XBL bundles across multiple retailers. It's not terribly surprising it won.

Can a franchise that consistently sells 2m+ units be considered niche?

By 2015's standards, I'd say so.

Like when I think Mass Market console games I'd start with at least 4-5 million given we hit heights around 20-35 million for some games.

Hell a bunch of publishers won't even greenlight 2 million unit games anymore because they're way too small for them.

wow and close to Bloodborne, who knows what made this change, but well competition is good.
Pretty much deminstrates that exclusives does little for console sales overall.

not bashing bloodborne in any way. Probable the best game on current gen consoles ive played.

Weird, how did that happen? Especially baffling looking at the software listings. Was there a crazy Xbox One sale I missed or something?

Edit: Oh, the MCC system bundle came out in April? Makes sense then. Wonder how close it was.

are NPD April results literally from April 1st to April 30th?
If so, Splatoon numbers are going to be in June results right?

Impulse purchasers jumped in on Bloodborne after all the 9s and 10s, died a million times, and told their friends that it sucked.

Casual word of mouth won't be carrying it, but it's probably already sold enough and will continue to do so to have been worthwhile on Sony's part.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Venturbeat said 3ds hw up 65% YTD compared to the first four months of 2014, Wii U up 15%, Xenoblade 3d at 5th place of single SKU chart despite it being New 3ds exclusive

Fixed

a major release from Sony towards the end of the prior month, and xbone comes out of no where and beats it in the following month.

that is huge. and e3 will give them momentum if they play their cards right. really well done on MS's part.

340k in september for ps4 sales says that a pretty decent amount of people bought it for that game imo. obviously not a game that will push millions of consoles and I am sure many know that or atleast i hope they did

Not so sure in my opinion.

1- Critical Acclaim, even by Mass media outlets

2- PS4 sales had a nice bump MoM in March, almost (but not quite) keeping up with the bump provided by Ground Zeroes in March '14

It wasn't going to last for sure, but I also imagine that Bloodborne did a lot better when looking at -individual- SKUs, vs combined all systems.

I expect a meltdown from the Sony-GAF folk and a ticker-tape parade from the Xbox-GAF.
Guys, don't let me down. I'll be back in a few pages. :)

Yeah, Sony is Japanese company. So they don't really be doing price drops on items like American companies do.
??

I didn't realize this was a Japanese vs American thing. And Sony dropped the price massively for PS3 and Vita in their first couple years.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
The Minecraft sales numbers are so ass backwards...haha. I understand why they are the way they are, it is just funny to see month after month.

Wow, Mortal Kombat did great.

How is Minecraft still selling so much? Are children with 360s (the highest-selling version) really still asking for this game? I mean, apparently, but wow.

Smash Bros. is hanging in there. The 3DS version outsold the Wii U version, which confirms Nintendo's worldwide shipment numbers.

By how much though?
I guess it may finally be time for Sony to do a price cut. They should easily be winning every month outside the holidays. Price difference seems to have cost them the month and may continue to do so.

Pretty big win for xbox, don't think anyone saw them winning NPD before October. Huge surprise.

Dark Souls 2 selling more on PS4 than XB1 is a bit surprising, especially so soon after Bloodborne.

Second time today. Is it really? Uk sales was the same. Japanese RPG's tend to do better on PS platforms. No?

sony got way too cocky with the ps4 honestly, doesn't surprise me

Loool this is going to be a good npd thread isn't ;)
