Yeah, I think it's just you. Sounds like an awful value proposition and I don't think the fact that it's a tag game matters to the broad market of people who want a Tekken. Plus when would you even release it? Sounds like a bad idea from like every angle.

no you

Azure J's wall of shame aka the game he has not played.

How this dude still able to post on GAF?

He must think all the people on GAF who talk about RE4 are crazy.

On that note... what major fighting games have you guys not played?

I have not played any VF game before VF4. Actually I have played one but I can't remember which one and I didn't like it enough to bother checking which version it was (it was at the arcade, floaty jumps turned me off).

Any SNK game that doesn't have KOF in the title. I've always wanted to try Mark of the Wolves. Terry has a cool design in it. SNK art is pretty baller all around imo.

Mostly SNK games. Never played Samurai Showdown or Fatal Fury. I only played KOF with 13, though I did mess with Garou and KOF 98 before.

Trying to learn a little vf. Just labbing a bit. I kinda wish vf had training mode style high mid low pop ups in real matches cuz I have no fucking clue what hits where and what to look for.

Just editing Azure J's list to match my own stuff:

Devil May Cry series (well I played 2, then never played any of them ever again)
Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3 (Played all the others; Twin Snakes is the best second only to Rising)
Resident Evil series (tank controls, barf)
Half-Life 1
Doom series
Portal 2 (Portal 1 was boring)
Halo series (played 3, had fun riding the warthog. not a FPS fan in general)
Souls series (they seem boring)
Monster Hunter series (fuck those controls)

Played almost everything. Even mobile. Need to know. Have to know. '

Never played Hastune Mika games (eff anime) or Grim Fandango (its on my PSN library now).
Feel like I aged out of Kingdom Hearts when it came out so I never played it. I should give it a shot though.

Whatever about AzureJ. He found a lane and staying there.

I've never touched Virtua Fighter because people have always told me about how it's the hardest game out there to learn and my intimidated game is on point.

On general video games I have never played a Zelda game for longer than 20 minutes.

I was in trek ken where you are with vf only problem is I had Tekken 3 and 5 just after seeing tag 2 I just said fuck it and dropped Tekken.

I see the problem there.

It wasn't the gameplay, I think. I only remember getting stuck in some dark cave or something really early on in the game, getting completely lost, then turning the PS2 off and deleting the save. This was a looooooong time ago, so I couldn't even begin to remember which area it was if you were curious.

That's one of the few times I used the "scorched earth" policy on a game (FF4 and FF6 being the other games).

No the problem here is that your only experience with the series is with a turd of a game that is barely worthy of being a coaster. You did the right thing deleting the save although it's safe to say that you have in fact not played a DMC game.

Virtua Fighter is easy to lab up. Nothing is really that hard to do in the game, if you are trying to do Akira knee combos that has that weird 1 frame input, then whatever that's like learning a 1 frame link but a lot of other characters don't rely on that. People always talk about mindgames and what not, but it's like other games, you aren't gonna know what you need to do, until you actually see what happens, so even if you don't know, just go in there and throw some dice with other players, and you'll start learning. This actually is a valid tactic to learning games, it was also a Sirlin article years ago. He asked a pro poker player, who also plays other competitive games and TCGs, how he learned the game, he said he just starts playing hands, and as time goes on, he would see what hands worked and what doesn't, and that makes him develop an intrinsic knowledge on the risk and reward. If you know the risk and rewards, it would help you play mindgames because you can prey on the other player's expectations and habits.

Back when I was in Upstate New York my local had a VF gathering when FS got released for PS3 and 360. A decent amount of us picked up the game around that time and started learning some stuff. Even though I labbed up and played some matches online, I wouldn't call what I was doing smart at the local but at least I beat 2 people in the bracket by throwing out Sabaki's with Aoi. Got beat bad though by 2 people who knew how to sidestep the kick though. I think most people had a decent time just playing it at the moment, even though they all eventually went back to their regular games (I know GAF has been on a high horse of late, but there is nothing wrong to going back to game you like, even if it's SF4). Since there wasn't really any barriers to playing VF, you can learn a bnb easy, and all the mechanics are right there for you in game, you can just play. All that talk about OS and learning about yomi this and that when you are just picking up the game, while also saying that it's the hardest thing in fighting game existence does the game a huge disservice imo. Imagine trying to learn Street Fighter and someone just telling you how to time your vortex, safejump setups, throwtech/reversal/backdash OS, and the billions of different situations you need to learn, that shit should come later.

I know people wonder why the hell they would listen to me even though my story just sounded like my VF skills are still scrub level (because they are), because there are so many games that the barrier of entry is just parking your ass in a seat and playing. When I got a to a local, sometimes I see someone just practicing in training mode or waiting for someone to come around. I just sit down and start playing even though I might not have played the game before. That's how I first played GGX2AC, I saw someone practicing Venom setups and no one else was playing. So I gave it a try and got bopped. Arcana Heart 3 was the same way funny enough. I picked Magnet Akane because I assumed if someone has a scarf 1. They probably are a ninja/superhero 2. They are rushdown and 3. Magnetism is an awesome super power. Funny thing is both these games have a reputation that you need to learn a lot of nuances just to play, but if I just started of square one and go, "it's anime, I can run my fingers along some buttons and it's probably a combo", eventually the other guy I was playing casuals with will tell the nuances of the game as I go along.

I think your hatred (deserved or not) of DMC2 is a bit misguided here. I'm not saying I dropped DMC2 because of the gameplay; I dropped it because I got frustrated over being lost and not knowing what to do next. I can't really speak about the gameplay because I simply don't remember it.

Six Machine's above post is kinda the way I like to learn things as well. I don't want to study or lab, I really have a lot more fun just rolling the dice and trying to learn a game by playing it.

Unfortunately, modern fighters require a lot more labwork than they used to, due to increased reliance on setplay and longer combos, alongside significantly higher average player skill.

Plus, there're so many character to prepare against in some of them.

maybe vf gets the reputation of being super technical because of the throw break mechanics? They got simplified anyways iirc. im a scrub but I like the game a lot bbecause it's actually very simple and pure and the mind games are laid out right in front of you.
