Retailer Best Buy has announced a pretty nice Back to School deal where you can save big on a new TV and an Xbox One. Beginning this coming Sunday, August 9, shoppers can pick up the Samsung 40-inch 1080p Smart HDTV and a new Xbox One together for just $500.

The TV right now sells for $430 and new Xbox Ones go for $350, meaning you'll save about $280 through the limited-time promotion. This deal rolls out Sunday and runs for a period of one week, ending August 15.

Best Buy is aiming this deal at college students.

"It's the perfect college student deal, as a gaming console like the Xbox One is a college essential and a 40-inch TV is a great size for a dorm room," the retailer said in a statement.

This is definitely the most tempted I've been to buy an XB1. Need a new TV at just about that size, its like killing two birds with one stone.

Why are you reading my tag instead of the title of my post?
Aghhhh. This is such a good deal but I can't take advantage of it. I need a 50" TV. But maybe I sell it back? I wish I wanted an XB1.

Same here. A TV that size would work great in the office. (The inputs are kind of limited, but in the office that won't matter.) And I wouldn't mind Rock Band on the One if everything from my 360 carries over. Very enticing.

Wow, that's an amazing deal. It sucks to be broke, or I'd jump on this with the quickness if I could. My little 22 incher ain't cutting it.

Wow. This couldn't have been more perfect timing for me. Just bought a condo and I'm looking to get two TVs. Was gonna pick up a 40" Sony Bravia for $469 after work today. Probably gonna jump on this deal even though I already own an XB1 (might flip it or set it up in the other room). Anyone know how this TV is for gaming? The reviews on Best Buy and Amazon seem pretty decent.

Wow what the hell the TV alone should cost more than that! That is NUTS! Anyone even remotely interested in an XB1 should be all over this. Truly crazy deal.

People that kept saying they would get an Xbox One when the price was right..does this deal work for you?

Can't find the model on displaylag.com, would be cautious.

It's probably similar to the J5500 which has 40 ms input lag. I've read that model can get blurry so games might get messy.

Still, this bundle is a great value, even if the TV is just okay.

Edit: The model included in the bundle is the J5200. This is the write up of the J5500 I was reading.

The price hasn't changed. If you need a budget hdtv then by all means. Not like you can flip the tv because they have terrible resale value.

I'm actually in the market for a 40 inch TV. Only problem is I only wanted to spend ~$300. I guess I could sell the Xbox One and end up under my budget.

Open box ones on ebay are being bid above $350, and that's from sellers with >100 feedback. Ending prices are in the $400-450 range.

The TV has solid resale value. It'll fall considerably once this deal is live, but I can't see it dropping below 250.

Batteries the CRISIS!
In what universe is a 40-inch TV a great size for a dorm room, Best Buy? I remember anything larger than 19 inches felt like a theater screen in those sardine cans.

Wow. I was considering getting my girlfriend that exact model TV (or the 32in version) for her birthday. I was going to purchase it on Sunday most likely. Holy shit.

Why can't this be near me (UK)? I don't need another TV but fucking hell that's a good deal! (TVs are like headphones, you can never have too many).

What? That seems almost too good of a deal, basically a free xbone. Is the tv shit or something?

The TV itself is pretty bad (especially for video games), but I'm sure lots of people will buy the bundle, wait a few weeks and then sell the unopened TV for $200-300.

Might go in for this just to get my girlfriend a new TV and finally get an Xbox one. Are all Xbox one consoles bundles now?

The price point is so low I had to check what the actual current price of the TV is, just to reconfirm lol. On Amazon this tv is $427

Which means you get the XBO for free?
