iOS Gaming August 2016 | A sever-ly hot summer

Rush Rally 2 added a cockpit view in the new update!

That is great though I somehow prefer the helicopter view which was also used in the first installment. Do not know why exactly. Nevertheless the cockpit view feels great. It is astonishing that mobile has such a great rally sim.

Thanks to some renegotiations with AT&T when I threatened to leave, looks like I'll be getting a 6S Plus on Tuesday.

Will be curious to see if I notice the difference in game performance with my current iPhone 6 and iPad Mini 2, both of which I've already been happy with.

Especially for the mini 2 being as old as it is, it still runs everything like a champ.

On the subject, any good games that use 3D Touch?

Damn I was SURE I knew how to trick the Devil in Reigns but apparently I did only the first part of a multiple stages 'quest'!!!!

It's a little complicated. I only figured it all out because someone on TouchArcade's forum pointed out one of the first parts, that
the years the witch talks about have symbols on your timeline
.

Yeah that's the part I solved long ago already.
But there is much more!!!

Nah I think itll be able to just fine. iPad Air 2 and above etc. Last one was used as a showcase as well iirc. Feels like thye will ditch it though.
I had a chat with Lash who works with mobile apparently, and he said it is far from possible on mobile. That's why I imagine it wouldn't be possible on these devices.

Looks good. Hopefully they (Tin Man) are a bit more selective in their titles this time round, some of the earlier books where not exactly the strongest/classic entries in the series. Wonder how much creative control they have?

aka where is Creature of Havoc?

They're kind of doing like Inkle, adding new content, expanding on things from the gamebook

They plan to do more gamebooks in this fashion after Warlock
Following the release of Warlock, we plan on expanding our reach in Allansia and will be adapting a number of classic Fighting Fantasy titles such as Deathtrap Dungeon, the trap-filled and monster-infested labyrinth of Fang where many heroes compete in the Trial of Champions, followed by Citadel of Chaos and City of Thieves

We also want give players the opportunity to take digital miniatures from one story into another and further expand those locations. What would happen if Throm the Barbarian from Deathtrap Dungeon turned up in Firetop Mountain or Bigleg the Dwarf from The Forest of Doom decided to enter the Trial of Champions?

Sounds great!

The books can be quite hit and miss, be good to see how they can spin and expand them... Deathtrap Dungeon is ye olde classic, but a bit naff. Citadel of Chaos is pretty poor/restrictive. City of Thieves is ok/good from what I remember...

I just felt that with their previous releases, some of the selection of books was, "choosen poorly" shall we say? Given that there exists much better title then some of the ones that they have already published (Forest of Doom, Blood of the Zombies and Appointment with F.E.A.R for example)

Played some Eisenhorn. Nah, not feeling it. It's nice to see a full-fledged 3D action game on mobile, but it's really nothing special. The combat feels mindless and boring, go play Implosion. The visual are okay, Shadowmatic or The Room series look more impressive and myriad others have better aesthetics. The typical issue of 3D movement and camera control rears its head. It's like someone tried to make a console-quality action-adventure and just did enough to make an okay mobile game.

Stick to Deathwatch or Space Hulk for 40k action that feels suited for touch

Reigns has an ending? Not even one, but three? Suprised. Talk about hidden depth. I was looking at the app and I still have two characters left to meet and a lot of missions. Just when I thought I was done with it. Amazing game that keeps getting better and better. Like Legend of the Skyfish or Road Not Taken...

Yes it has 3 endings...and the best one is super tricky (and still eludes me...but I'm doing tons of progresses).

I was able to complete almost everything in the game, including meeting all characters and suffer all types of deaths (even if it's a bit misleading in game...when you restart they reset and I don't like it...so you should check the GC achievements in case you do not remember if you saw anything or not).
It's impossible to see everything with just one playthrough and some things appears only if you get the bad ending and continue....just saying.

Can't get the link and the only way you can find it on iTunes at the moment is to search for Riptide then go to Developer Apps, but Riptide Renegade GP is out on iOS for $2.99.

Great follow up to the first two games with more effects, tricks and some wild courses. Easy recommend at that price point.

Boo to Harry Slater only giving Leap of Fate a 7/10 over at PG. I actually think it will be on my GoTY list.

Had asked before but I thought Slater had left PG? So he decided to come back?

Oh fuck yes. Finally I get me some Lumines! Hopefully it is a universal app so I can play it on my iPad. Also nice with the Horizon update.

I would like to see a statistics page within the game sometime. To see how many times I died to each of the different endings. That would be neat.

I didnt know about the achievements, will look and try to meet the two I have left so I can continue, right now I am stuck, always the same results. The game is too awesome to put down.

So a pretty popular CCG game went on sale today for 99c. It's Lost Portal CCG and unlike most others in the genre this is single player only, and let's you go through dungeons, fight bosses and level up your character, while there are 200+ cards that come in five rarities. I haven't seen much of it myself but I have it.

By the way, The Witness is still happening for iOS. Although they are currently testing a tap-based movement scheme. This would probably just make me play it through on PC instead honestly.

Thekla is also continuing to work on the iOS version of The Witness, which will be the same open-world, 3D, first-person puzzle game as it is on PC, PlayStation 4, and soon, Xbox One, just with lower-end graphics. Currently, Thekla is experimenting with tap-based movement rather than on-screen arrow keys: a single tap to walk, double tap to run, two-finger strafing, and so on.

With all the fine-tuning that needs to be done on movement, graphics, and more, there is no release date set for The Witness on iOS just yet.

“It’s such a lower-end platform and we have to redo a ton of stuff,” Blow told IGN.

A little annoying for Blow to use "it's such a lower-end platform" for iOS. Yes, it isn't a PS4 but graphically it can hold its own for games like this I would think.

Just bothered me as another slam as if mobile is crap.

But they're still doing it so still happy about that.
I mean, he's not wrong. The Witness isn't Crysis, but I couldn't run it on high on my laptop. Most 3D PC ports need to downgrade their visuals on mobile so the game can run well on iOS. Plus, The Witness being an pretty large open space rather than singular levels, and yeah, I can see why they would to need to cut the mobile version back to get it to work

No, I agree that it would obviously need to be downgraded. Just thought the "such a lower-end platform" seemed a bit like a dig. Yeah, I take it personally my defense of mobile :)

Oh cant wait for that, probably the best arcade racer on iOS. I think they added one new track for Chinese new year. I hope they add at least two new sets of tracks.

Does anyone have and recommendations for similar arcade style racers? Finished Rally Rush recently and need another decent racing game.

On another subject, anyone here play Lost Portal CCG? On sale for a buck and wondered how it was.
I mentioned this a few posts above yours. But yes I bought it and will probably give it a go tomorrow.

I also didn't read Blow's comment as a dig or in any negative light. iOS just is a lower-end platform compared to PC and current-gen consoles.

I think it's a reasonable reaction. If a big PC dev said the same thing about porting his game to consoles, you would definitely see some people taking offense to that whether it was true or not.

I guess I'm just sensitive.
Some games look really good on mobile. If you would've shown me some of the cockpit views and lighting effects in Real Racing 3 a few years ago, I never would have believed it was from a game in your phone.
