Get rid of the extra comma.

Code:
state.CastingMode:options('Normal', 'Resistant', 'MB')

Yeah, I actually noticed it myself and managed to get it to run on the SCH LUA:

-- Setup vars that are user-dependent. Can override this function in a sidecar file.
function user_setup()
state.OffenseMode:eek:ptions('None', 'Normal')
state.CastingMode:eek:ptions('Normal', 'Resistant', 'MB')
state.IdleMode:eek:ptions('Normal', 'PDT')

options.CastingModes = 'MB'

AND

sets.midcast['Elemental Magic'].MB = set_combine(sets.midcast['Elemental Magic'], {
left_ear="Gwati earring",
body="Amalric doublet",
neck="Melic torque",
left_ring="Resonance Ring",
right_ring="Locus Ring",
})

HOWEVER, when I try to do the same thing with geomancer:

-- Setup vars that are user-dependent. Can override this function in a sidecar file.
function user_setup()
state.OffenseMode:eek:ptions('None', 'Normal','Accuracy','Dual')
state.CastingMode:eek:ptions('Normal','Accuracy', 'MB' )
state.IdleMode:eek:ptions('Normal', 'PDT', 'MDT')

options.CastingModes = 'MB'

AND

sets.midcast['Elemental Magic']['Accuracy'] = set_combine(sets.midcast['Elemental Magic'], {
left_ear="Gwati earring",
neck="Melic torque",
})

sets.midcast['Elemental Magic']['MB'] = set_combine(sets.midcast['Elemental Magic'], {
left_ear="Gwati earring",
body="Amalric doublet",
neck="Melic torque",
left_ring="Resonance Ring",
right_ring="Locus Ring",
})

MB as a mode gets registered:

su4ESmU.png

BUT It still casts in the ['Elemental Magic']['Accuracy'] setup. No idea why.

What are you doing with
Code:
options.CastingModes = 'MB'

I'm assuming you're using mote-include stuff, and that line shouldn't be necessary for anything.

I was checking FFXIAH for a way to add modes and it was written to do it. Bear with me, I just started using it yesterday by estranging various part together lol.

Anyway, removing that made it work on GEO LUA. Thanks for the patience, really.

I still have some minor fixes to do, but for tonight I'm done.

Still not sure what's the best way to use GS on mages, though. Do people use it in combination with widower macros?

(Macros for /ma "Fire V" <t> and then GS does the rest?)

Yeah, just wasn't sure if you were using that for something else, since it's not needed for Mote's state mode stuff. Not sure why that would have been preventing it from working, but as long as it's doing what you want now, it's all good.

And yeah, my in-game macros on black mage and such are basically just a single line like that.

I use the in-game macros, but my friend started playing BLM from the start by scrolling through the magic list and he still does that to my knowledge.

Yeah, to clarify, you don't even need to use macros for gearswap to take effect. Any way that you cast the spell is fine, and I'll use the menu for stuff that I use infrequently.

Finally started to put some serious effort toward Idris, gather the 70k obsidian frags for the stones. Still a bit far away as far Plama goes (600k gathered), but by doing 1-2 Delve per day it ranks up surprisingly fast.

Nothing I can do about the coalitions wall sadly, but at least HP Baylds aren't an issue anymore.

I'm so busy anymore with non-ffxi shit that I still never finished my ragnarok. Only have like 1k plutons

This campaign has been super good for Pluton/Beitetsu/Riftborn Boulders, with just 7 Avatars you can easily get multiple stacks.

I'm waiting to sell mine tho', since the prices crashed a bit.

Been looking for this thread. Can anyone who mains blu point out a starter set I can get from the auction house that's i119?
blu is not a friendly job for starter sets...its one of the more demanding jobs overall to gear.

Alluvion Skirmish gear is super easy to get though, and makes a decent place to grab something

I don't even know what a skirmish is. But I'll do some research. Thanks for the heads up

Should've asked earlier: what bonuses am I looking for with gear? I'm trying to get away from being too magey. I've always been whm or blm. I want to dual wield and slice, but not get away from mages entirely. I'm 99 already, but my memory on blu is gone.

ffxiah has an extensive breakdown on BLU, id give it a once over.

Maybe it's just me and my ongoing inventory issues, but stuff like this coming right after you're supposed to get your Bonanza marbles makes it a bit discouraging to actually take advantage of, since the inventory space is kinda crippled for the occasion.

Maybe I just need to spend time in Abyssea until I complete the seal sets I have and use up all the pop items I have in storage.

How the heck does Synergy work? I'm doing In the name of Science and I'll be having enough organs for all torques soon.

Can I just find someone with high enough Synergy and let them "craft" it for me, or do I need to level it myself too?

synergy works like your second question. Find someone that has it skilled and knows how it works and have them do it for you...fuck synergy

ZetaEpyon

There are several people in or affiliated with IHOP that have high level synergy. Drop us a line when you've got all your stuff and we should be able to help you out.

ZetaEpyon

I moved to Asura!

Well damn, can't help you there! Though I'm sure it shouldn't be too difficult to track a synergist down.

Alternatively, you can actually level synergy for very little or no cost, due to the way it works. Failed synergies don't use up materials, so you can basically spam stuff for skillups and intentionally fail the synergy to not lose stuff.

This was less painful than I imagined. Even had a bit of fun with the organs farm since I got to ran around Sea. I love Sea, I wish SE made some new events around it. ._.

Now I need to remake the Dark Magic set so it equips Aesir Neck only Dark days (And Colossus for Light days, I suppose)

I tried this:

if spell.element == 'Dark' and world.day_element == 'Dark' then equip (sets.midcast['Dark Magic'],{neck="Aesir torque"})
end

if spell.english == "Aspir" and world.day_element == 'Dark' then equip (sets.midcast.Aspir,{neck="Aesir torque"})
end

I placed it just over the Hachi obi command (It was already in the LUA so at least I think the location is correct). It doesn't work. :(

I'll post my weather check function and explain it when I have access to my home pc again. It accounts for all weather, you just need the corresponding sets created and to call it in your midcasts.

Thanks. I usually copy stuff from other LUAs when I just vaguely understand stuff, but I can't find anything with Aesir Neck and Dark Day despite the fact it should become better than Incanter during that. (Unless I read it wrong and the bonus isn't cumulative? I'm starting to have doubts lol)

You are correct, effects written that way are not cumulative, it's a stat replacement. So it's just +10 on darksdays, not +17. Toss it on a slip.

ok so here's my weathercheck function, you can put it at the bottom of your lua.

function mweathercheck(spell_element)
-- Function checks weather and day and equips midcast appropriate gear on top of previously called midcast equips

-- Array of opposing elements
opp_elements = {
['Fire'] = 'Water', --Fire (0) spell, weak to water (5)
['Ice'] = 'Fire', --Ice (1) spell, weak to fire (0)
['Wind'] = 'Ice', --Wind (2) spell, weak to ice (1)
['Earth'] = 'Wind', --Earth (3) spell, weak to wind (2)
['Thunder'] = 'Earth', --Thunder (4) spell, weak to earth (3)
['Water'] = 'Thunder', --Water (5) spell, weak to thunder (4)
['Light'] = 'Light', --Light (6) spell, weak to dark (7)
['Dark'] = 'Dark' --Dark (7) spell, weak to light (6)
}

-- Check for spell and weather element match, equip weather set if true
if spell_element == world.weather_element then equip(sets.weather) end

-- Check for spell and day element match, equip day set if true
if spell_element == world.day_element then equip(sets.day) end

-- Check for obi element conflict, equip rainbow obi when no conflict

if (spell_element == (world.day_element or world.weather_element))
and (spell_element ~= opp_elements[world.day_element] and spell_element ~= opp_elements[world.weather_element])
then equip(sets.obi)
end

end

You'll need to create the following sets (they can be empty)
sets.weather
sets.day
sets.obi

and put only your all weather enhancing gear in them, like obi's or rings. I actually only use the obi set at the moment on my sch and geo.

Similarly I also have a Klimaform checker

function klimacheck()
-- Klimaform Check
if buffactive.Klimaform then equip(sets.klimaform)
end
end

This requires the following sets:
sets.klimaform

Now to actually use these functions, you just call them at the end of your equip line in your midcast.

For example:
elseif spell.skill == 'Elemental Magic' then equip sets.midcast.MA.elemental mweathercheck(spell.element) klimacheck()

You can see here I have a rule for whenever an elemental magic spell is cast, an elemental magic set is equipped, and then the check functions are called right after (which will equip the additional weather gear on top of whatever was in the set you called first)

Now my actual line in my lua looks like this:

elseif spell.skill == 'Elemental Magic' then mmodecheck(magic_index) mweathercheck(spell.element) klimacheck() immcheck()

I have a separate function to check what magic mode I am currently in (high mab, high macc, magic burst, or conserve mp), equip the appropriate set, then add in weather gear if appropriate, and then add klima gear if appropriate, and then add immanence gear if appropriate.

I'll leave it to you to figure out how to do modes if you wanna get into that.

Since I'm done with FFXV and waiting for the next FFXIV update, I was thinking about giving XI another shot. I looked at the guides in the OP, but does anyone know any good ones for soloing the current version of the game from scratch?
Last time I started (after X years, since I only played a bit after the European release), I was overwhelmed. Tried to make heads or tails of getting good AI NPCs, but looking for information in the sea of outdated guides was quite hard.

There's this speedrunning guide solely focused on the leveling process: https://www.bg-wiki.com/bg/User:Korvana/Speedrun

The same person also put together an estimation of the time each major story takes to play through, and ranked the optional quests: https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxi/comments/5i6qdt/story_questions/db5yy7y/

This guide on Trusts also gets shared every once in a while, and is a lot better than what's usually found on the wikis: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1wF6NsovdawSiHo39OFeGxAW-KirP5oZ9d9-aJRG1ItE/edit

Thank you for these, I'll definitely use them when/if I decide to get back to XI.
It would be great if these could be added to the OP.

Sub ran out yesterday, not gonna renew until January 11 probably.

I'm on a good point with Idris, but still need like 3 months of coalitions sadly. Really getting into SCH on other hand, CPing with it is quite fun since I get to heal,buff and even do solid MB damage with my equipment (60k generally). Even got to live the Merit Party RDM level 75 experience at one point with a CP TP Burn party lol. Too bad Maju seems impossible to do with randoms, not going to get a Merlinic body soon sadly.

Really disappointed by Omen on other hand, lockouts don't belong in this game anymore and one of the reason I got away from XIV is because of the awful end-game enviroment static+lockout created.

Honestly the best things you can do is too ask someone in game to explain things to you (But read the guides too of course), FFXI community is generally helpful toward newcomers, so don't be afraid to ask.

Tried new dynamis for the 1st time last night - I got my zone wins years ago and hadn't returned since, so I didn't know there were cutscenes about the victory that elaborate on the story and mechanics, neat.

Yeah the lockout is horrendous, and definitely driving people away. It's also hellish for trying to coordinate as an actual linkshell event.

If they wanted to restrict how many times people could run Omen within a given time period, it'd have been a lot better to do something like Assault tags. You'd still only be able to do the same number of runs in a given week, for example, but at least you could stack them up to make it more convenient.

I was wondering, is there any real fear of the PC servers being shut down any time soon (late 2017?)? I've always wanted to play this one, I was thinking of picking up the Ultimate Collection in a couple months once I catch up in FFXIV.

They have plans for the game in the very least up until March, so they announced around last March, and I figure throughout this year they must have assessed any changes in the game's population and what that may imply for the future. as it stands, it seems very doubtful that 2017 will be its last year - stuff like server merges would probably happen first, in the very least.

I'd bet the game has at least another five years left. Probably little to no updates the last few of those years but still there to play.

I find myself suddenly feeling the urge to get back into ffxi(i stopped playing right after abyssea first came out, have like a level 76 Blu and thats it), but playing by myself is boring so I figured I ask, how is the LS population at night? Like from around 8pm to morning eastern time? Not on sylph so I'd have to pay for the transfer, so I figured I might as well check here first to see if it would even be worth it.

Campaigns start today. Going to use this chance to get BLM to 99, not super into it like I was into 2006, but I may as well given my gears.

Wanted to level COR also, but the thought of gearing another job from scratch gives me nightmare, plus I don't even know what most of melee DD stats work. ._.

Sylph is a dead server sadly, there are about 500 people online in a good day.

Most populated server is Asura, I moved there recently and there are always shouts for everything and about 1,2k+ players online all the time. You even find shouts for old content like Vagary and Delve, and Escha shouts happen all the time.

It's very easy to get stuff done.
