"Mediocre"

Hurts was the SEC Offensive Player of the Year.

As a result of the offense he ran and the defense that played. He's not putting those numbers up at Vanderbilt.

Mediocre in the sense he's not getting looked at by NFL teams in the high rounds. Deshaun Watson will be and Tua will be. Hurts has pretty bad throwing mechanics.

Projecting recruits especially QBs is really difficult.

I agree 98% of the time, I just think Tua is going to be a stud Heisman candidate if he stays healthy.

Did Martin Scorcese direct this year's championship game? What's with cutting to Gimme Shelter like 72 times over the course of the game?

you are lucky, in Australia, they not only played the Gimme Shelter song repeatedly, they show the same 2-3 adverts as they cannot show the US adverts.

He was a true freshman who did well in his position and will develop further

Speaking of doing well, USF's QB better not be converted to any postion in thd future. Nope.

No shit. But pigeonholing players as "system" players really is not fair, especially when Hurts had an exemplary season.

Hurts is a freshman. He'll get better. Throwing mechanics can be adjusted. To claim that an incoming recruit is better than the guy that steered the team to a national championship game before a single spring practice is absurd.

We're just going to have to disagree. I didn't see anything from Hurts play that separates him from previous Alabama QBs. He had a great season but Alabama did not get to the championship game because of him.

Look at the game Watson had and look at the game Hurts had.

Tua is going to be a stud and there's a reason he committed to Alabama when every other college in the nation wanted him.

Bama #1? Despite losing a huge chunk of that defense? Nah, Bama is a 10-2 team next season. Offense should improve but the defense will take a big step back.

I think USC might not be the world-beaters everyone thinks they will be, either. They'll be the clear favorites in the South and one of the two favorites in the conference, but they're losing a bunch of their OL IIRC, along with other guys like Juju. They'll have talent to step in, but they'll have some growing pains.

Same with UW and the secondary.

If Hurts is the real deal with his "unbelievable" season he should be able to throw for more than a 25.2 QBR and 42% Completion.

Quote me on this, if Tua can stay healthy he'll be an NFL prospect after his Freshman season while Hurts will be lucky to get drafted from Rounds 3-5 after it's all said and done.

2017 Preseason Rankings

http://www.espn.com/college-footbal...-seminoles-headline-way-too-early-top-25-2017

1. Alabama
2. Florida State
3. Kiffin Sarkesian U
4. Pedo State
5. There's no P in Clemson
6. (t)MCU
7. Gondo State
8. Washington

There's no way this isn't pre-written a week before the game and they were like fuck it, send it out anyway

edit: yeah the copy doesn't even mention if either team won or lost, lol, this is lazy as fuck

Who cares about the draft.

The NFL draft does not dictate who great college QB's are.

18 years old and people expecting Joe Montana lol. Crazy as hell, he's the best QB they've had since Saban got there.
Yep. Yep. Yep.

I really don't care about the draft in this case. Hurts is Bama's best QB in years. Straight up.

It's in the second paragraph.

Obviously it's lazy as fuck, it's college football rankings :p

Clemson, Washington, Penn State and USC being that high shows that they have no idea what they are talking about.

Bama being one is actually their most reasonable ranking, they are still more talented than anyone else with Nick Saban.

Yeah you're right, and that's where I should have been a little more clear.

Point being Tua is going to be a great College QB and eventually be a high pick NFL QB prospect which Alabama hasn't had in forever. He will win the starting spot sometime next season.

Hurts definitely has no NFL career at least a QB. He isn't one. But he's so good with the ball in his hands that he can be a difference maker in college.

Renfrow's 4 of 11 receiving TDs have been in Championship Games against Bama.

My wife and I have loved his play the last two years.

She made her.own renfrow jersey with a marker an t shirt because she liked the way he played.

As someone who left the school with two degrees in '99 I am over the moon. They have been such a fun team to watch!

A true freshman is not gonna replace Deshaun Watson...

Also QB recruits are very difficult to project.

They actually aren't -- QBs are probably the easiest recruits to project. How the transition to the next level is always sort of a crapshoot, but if a kid is a 4-5* QB, he's going to be a stud in college. Deshaun was a 5* and he came in as a true FR against my Noles and you knew immediately he was a star.

With that being said, he doesn't have to "replace" him and no one would expect that he would. He just has to be pretty good and they'll be happy.

Pro-style QB's are notorious for being a crapshoot as recruits.

Deshaun was a 4* btw.

I'll even give you an example:
This is the QB rankings(dual and pro combined) from 2014

besides Deshaun, who else is a star?

Going to just pro:

no one turned out decent.

Jalen Hurts is a true freshman who just finished second in the SEC in completion percentage and 5th in the conference in passer efficiency. He played against 10 teams that were ranked at the time of play and his team was 1 play away from winning the CFP National Title.

I think it is a little premature to write the poor kid off after 1 loss.

Feel like the same thing's been said the past two seasons. We recruit better than anyone in the nation. We don't really have rebuilding years. Preseason 1 seems high (really just because we just lost), but no way we're less than 3.
