Yes, I agree. Diver suit + harpoon + airships + cloud sky + giant flying whale. It writes itself.

I can't believe there are people hating on his character design. Yeah, it's goofy, but it's really charming and somehow nostalgic. I don't know what it is, but there's something weirdly retro about this design and some of the environments. (Can't say the same for sword girls.)

You gonna get this game banned in Japan lol.

Moby Dick is actually relatively popular as an inspiration for Japanese works.

Nah, it's pretty bad. The fact that there's a story reason for the concept behind the design doesn't make the design not bad. It's a pretty crappy take on a diver suit. :p

For me i think the best way to determine english VA is Setting

SCIFI IE XCX should mostly be American
Fantasy ie XC should be Brittish

In XCX the majority of the characters are literally from Los Angeles, so American VAs made sense there.

Even if the script they had to voice was terrible anime cliche nonsense most of the time. I assume the people recoiling in horror at the anime stylings of XC2 never played XCX?

I feel ya, man. I like his design, too. I'd take Rex's design over the design of the FFXV cast anyday. Modern FF seems to have lost its innocence, whereas this game looks to still have it.

I was all in with the switch when I heard about Disgaea 5. This news is amazing. If they can capture a tenth of the magic from the first it will be worth it.

Sorry is this might be a bit off-topic, but does anyone know what happened to this project that was teased by Monolith back in 2012 I believe?

It's likely just Diadem from Baten Kaitos, but without the clouds surrounding it because (spoilers)
that's what it looks like at the end of the game after all the floating islands come back down to earth.

And it's another wonderful JRPG by Monolithsoft that everyone should play.

Bunnits and Tirkins from the first game show up in the trailer, so I'm guessing it takes place some undisclosed time after the first game.

Or they could just be reusing monster types like other long running JRPG series tend to do, kind of like how it looks like they're establishing the Nopon to be the Moogle equivalent. Now whether it's an attempt at saving money by reusing assets or an attempt at establishing a stronger series identity... who knows. I don't think it's necessarily a sign that the games are linked directly though.

I Googled it and learned that it's a GameCube game. Any chance this will ever become a Virtual Console game?

Did Bunnits and Tirkins appear in X?

I think they wouldn't have put the 2 in the title if it was just another Xenoblade-esque instead of a sequel.

I could definitely be wrong, but with that name and a protagonist wielding a monado look alike, they at least want us to believe it's a sequel... Wether the monado is actually a girl or not, I guess.

If the GC virtual console rumor ends up being true, it's a possibility. It'd be nice if they did so more people could play it.

I'll just pretend it is, since the art direction in X2 so far looks very similar.

The history and culture of the Nopon in X are pretty heavily influenced by the events of the first Xenoblade. There's definitely a desire to have these games take place in the same... well, I can't really say 'universe' since that word is fairly meaningless in the context of the first Xenoblade.

But you don't even know if Xenoblade 2 is really open world. It could be more in line with Xenoblade, where it's wide open areas that are interconnected.

You're entirely right, it's just an assumption on my part that it'll be as open as X.

We don't know how much of the first game's story carries over to XC2. But you need to play the first because that game is so good.

Yeah I've been meaning to play through the first game but I won't be gaming much this year for school and I'm afraid that by the time I get around to playing the first game this one will be out and will seem so much more attractive and easy to access.

I'm well aware of all the hints/Easter eggs of XC and XCX possibly being linked and I think we'll probably continue to get similar nods to previous games in XC2. I just don't think there's enough evidence right now to suggest that XC2 is a direct direct sequel to XC, at least not direct enough to actually expect older characters to show up/be referenced, other than a certain someone who could exist outside the boundaries of space and time. Plus, tradition dictates that a direct sequel be called "Episode II" not just "2" :p Anyways, who knows, maybe I'll be wrong and this new kid will actually be Shulk's descendant lol. And Melia will show up and there will be a super awkward attempt at a romance that nobody asked for and then she'll be screwed over by the plot yet again!

Fear of what they'd do to the older characters is probably the main reason I don't want this to be a direct sequel haha.

You know how there's Final Fantasy, and then there's Final Fantasy Adventure, and then there's Final Fantasy Legend, and then there's Final Fantasy 2? And none of them are direct sequels, and Final Fantasy 2's story has nothing to do with Final Fantasy 1's? Yeah.

One has to remember though, that Final Fantasy Adventure is a game from Mana-series, and Legend is from SaGa-series, just renamed for US release for popularity. What you say is true, though, as people back then would not have know for those series to exist.

It'll bum people out, but I hope not >.< Mech combat was super boring in XCX.

Depending on how expansive the mount system ends up being, it might encompass all of the traversal tools afforded by Skells in X. And maybe having them augment but not replace the base system of combat would be a good middle ground between X's approach and not having them affect combat at all.

Fear of what they'd do to the older characters is probably the main reason I don't want this to be a direct sequel haha.

(This is actually everything I want from a direct sequel)

So this seems to be the second game with a Moby Dick influence in the Xenoblade series, the Ark ship in XCX was called the White Whale.

Also if mechs aren't in, please let them return in the next game following this one.

Good catch! I completely forgot about that! :O

Edit: Also, if this analysis trailer (and even concept art) is to be believed, maybe that diving suit will actually provide us with underwater environments. IF they do this, hopefully they're done right!

But all the other Final Fantasy games are direct sequels right?

Just came by to say, I think this game will launch this year. Many of the other games shown at the conference still show "TBD" on their release dates. XB2 shows "2017." Guess I'm an optimist

I really hope it releases this year, man. I could always use more Xeno games in my life. After all the similarities I think I'm finally gonna have to take the plunge with Baten Kaitos now...

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
Seeing the concept art made me cringe, and makes me wonder why they chose this guy for the character designs. What makes it worse is that if they had modeled Tanaka's designs like this they probably would've translated better as well, basically the models look okay but the actual designs are pretty bad this time.

Also put me in the camp hoping for two lines of Xeno games too, if they can get another Xenoblade out this generation I really hope it's X 2 but having the story focus the first game lacked.
