I'm two pages deep into 14 (100pp yeahh), has anyone brought up the similarity to Scientology in the way they behaved at her talk? That Louis Theroux doco showed Scientologists filming people as a form of intimidation and this read as being exactly the same.

Just because there's personal, subjective logic behind something does not mean it was well thought out. Neither does perceived complexity mean the idea is good.
His ideas are rotten to the core, both inside and out. Don't be fooled by pseudo complexity into believing that personal logic means something is correct or interesting. Don't also falsely assume that people don't like the ideas because they don't dig deeper, or because they only see them at the face value.

It's always fascinating that in these discussions the users trying to demonize Anita either don't know what the words they're using mean and thus have no business participating in the discussion or they're being willfully ignorant because that's how desperate they are to demonize her regardless of the subject matter of the thread. Either way, neither paints a very good picture of the user.
The recordings are mostly by the shit heads sitting in the front row and all of the videos are uploaded by GG/MRA asshats.
People talk about the so called "culture war", but calling it something like that implies both sides have a cause to fight for. That really isn't the case. We have one side that wants to debate issues that matter while acting like adults and remaining civil, while the other side fights their battles by being fuckwits and pests of society without really having a reasonable point about anything.
I'm of a pretty straight forward mind when it comes to stuff like this. Clinton got pilloried for using the term "deplorables", but I've always maintained that if the hat fits, wear it, and stop insulting people's intelligence by assuming you have them fooled.

It's a business for them. They get paid to harass someone because of opinions on video games. There isn't a word in English that I can think of that accurately describes how shitty these people are.

I am continually impressed by how strong Anita is. Fuck, i cant even imagine what everything she has been through affects her mental well being. I have nothing but admiration for how she has continually taken the very worst the internet has to offer for god knows how many years and she hasnt given up. I dont know if i would have the fortitude required to go through even one day of this shit.

The industry does. Devs have worked their asses off for decades improving the technology that powers games. The community however, the loud obnoxious subset as well as the majority that normalizes that subset, does not.

Zelda is absolutely a damsel in distress in Breath of the Wild; how is that even up for debate? Yeah, she gets a great amount of characterization, but she's still needs saving in the end -- same as ever.

Yeah even though the nuance is along the lines of "she's bought you 100 years of time to prepare for round two don't be an asshole and go help her finish the job" the dialog comes off more like "SHE NEEDS YOU LINK GO SAVE HER".
Honestly IMO Skyward Sword and Wind Waker do better jobs of showing how crucial Zelda is to the cycle of saving the world and how it's the both of you doing it, rather than making her out to be helpless and 0ure motivation for you.

I work at local recycling center, it's non-profit. People who work there get paid. We also can use the work experience there to make money elsewhere. And just like ours, Anita's work is supposed to help people.

I get your sentiment, but I'd say it's the gaming community that doesn't really deserve her.
The industry is making great progress with regards to better female characters (and more diversity in characters generally) in games, and Anita has definitely played a part in pushing us forward in this way.
