Jojo's Bizarre Adventure |OT PART 2| How many threads have you opened in your life?

There's already boobs jokes in 6

Maybe they will get out the way

Honestly the fanservice I'm waiting for is Bruno licking giogio

lol

I'm personally more concerned on whether they'd fanservice Part 6 up. I hope they don't, but stuff like Strength and Cinderella worries me.

I don't really see how, unless they hire a character designer who increases their bust size and makes them extra curvy. There's not alot of 'sexual' situations in 6, and the characters are otherwise pretty open about their sexuality.

Part 6 has a lot of sexual stuff, but it's not fanservice. There's a difference between how an adult treats sex, and how a teenager treats sex, and what anime has is usually the latter. That's what I'm worried they'll mess up.

(Stone Ocean really should've been in a seinen magazine.)

Yeah, but I'm worried they'll play up the ones it does. Or straight-up add some, like with Strength.

Well, if you've made it all the way up to Part 7, you're probably already fully committed to Jojo, heh.

...man, it's gonna be so fun listening to the Toonami podcasts try to talk about some of the shit that happens.

Dio and Pucci are going to make history
Wouldn't this actually be a pretty ground breaking gay ship? A Victorian era vampire having sex with a hyper religious black dude doesn't sound too common.
Well if we talking just ships there is Hellsing though Anderson is not black

LGBT stuff is slowly getting traction in Japan since you know, social change stuff, so Stone Ocean isn't that unusual compared to seinen and josei, and more broadly, Japanese fiction in general. It's still niche, but there's serious stuff being made about it.

...though, yeah, definitely was unusual for a 'shounen'. And knowing how conservative anime is, probably won't see many other 'non-fujoshi' anime do it either.

Sometimes I wish Araki would do like a alternative Part 6 manga, or even a short series of one-shots. One where he wasn't restricted by Shonen guidelines and editors at the time and just went full Seinen with whatever he had to cut.

But that man is busy enough.

I'm curious if the gender change was an Editor thing or Araki's decision.
I'd like to say editor but nobody knows. The part was definitely about female empowerment. The last thing it needed was this tall ass, thirsty ass man fiending for Jolyne for half the part.

Only know I think that they weren't enough male characters especially when Weather Report barely interact with the crew so it's just Emporio

Not saying I agree but that's the reason I heard and it was on a shonen magazine
It's still a dumb explanation. I have a tolerance for Shonen, but I don't like how they try to keep the female characters so weak just so they can market the property to teenage boys. I'm watching YYH and I'm wishing that Shizuru had some kick ass powers.
How much you guys wanna bet the Part 5 delay is because they can't figure out how to handle Green Day?
Obligatory:
Vento Aureo's Ending in a Nutshell

They're just recovering from the production failure during Part 4.

Production failure?
Are we just talking about taking their time so the aired version doesn't have those little inconsistencies?

I could go into why I think media like Bayonetta and Kill la Kill manage to handle sexualization in a unique way that allows both a strong female lead that kicks ass, AND manage to appeal strongly to both male and female viewers, albeit for somewhat different reasons, but that's a pretty in depth conversation. Anecdotally, I know more women who adore Bayonetta and Ryuuko than guys, so clearly it has some merit.
But ultimately, I want more shit to take notes from Bayonetta and Kill la Kill.

The anime intelligencia acting like KLK is a bad property is stupefying. It's either that or people were just too dumb to get it and sit down and enjoy it.

The complaints about Part 4's animation were pretty overblown, yeah, but no, the production did collapse. They really did have to struggle to get some episodes out, decreased staff for some episodes, sometimes entire sections done by one or two animators, that kind of stuff. That's a production collapse.

Kill la Kill and Bayonetta have some very questionable aspects, but yes, they're still way better than most anime. But honestly, that's mostly an indictment of how bad most anime is at it. You can do way better than either, heh. Stone Ocean being one of them. (And imo, while I enjoyed Kill la Kill, it leaned a bit too much into "having your cake and eating it" with the fanservice for me to fully accept it.)

Most people who read Shounen Jump aren't teenage boys. "Shounen" might mean that, but Jump's main readers are everybody from their early teens to late 20s. One Piece's biggest demographic used to be women in their 20s. Which, given how many people read One Piece period, should say something about how many (adult!) women actually read Jump.

The real reason we don't get more well-written women in shounen is because most writers and editors are sexist morons, as is Japan in general. That's slowly changing, but it's a cultural issue, not a money issue.

Sounds like stuff like Stone Ocean and Black Lagoon are exceptions...though BL is definitely a Seinen. They need to purge the sexist men...yeesh or just animate more Seinens.

If I remember like half of people who attends anime convetions are female

It's why probably why that even though harem shows have a reliable audience one of the biggest anime recently was stuff like Yuri on ice and AOT

You know how books tend to be more progressive and whatnot compared to normal media? That's basically what's going on with most seinen.

Semblance

shhh Graham I'm still compiling this Radiant map
There's much better seinen with female leads these days, honestly. Not all that hard to find, even though dumb schlock is still out there.

No point waiting around for anime adaptations that ain't comin' anyway tbh.

Also, gonna say this too while we're at it: stuff like Yuri on Ice aren't really progressive or groundbreaking.

That's a series aimed at women who want to see two guys do it, 'fujoshi'. (God, I hate that word.) It's not aimed at mainstream Japan, and basically ties into a common association that gay people and gay fiction are some niche or fetish thing, not something real. Same way having girls kissing in action movies didn't help actual lesbians any, because that's not what it's for.

That is changing, and actual LGBT stories like like My Lesbian Experience With Loneliness or Wandering Son can actually get non-niche popularity today. But Yuri on Ice is not one of them.

So? Jojo's usually a sausage fest. Why not just buck the trend for one part and make it a complete taco festival?

Even when Jojo's a sausage fest, there's usually a female character as part of the main team, so it wouldn't be unusual for Araki to add in a member who's of the opposite sex to the group. Even with Part 3, you had someone like Runaway Girl/Anne who was set up to be the Poco or Smokey of the Part before she was scrapped (as a younger character, she's a bit like Emporio). Even Part 5 with its cast of pretty boys had Trish.

The reason I heard for the change was that Araki didn't like the group dynamics and made Annasui male to change that, and I can believe that explanation. I sort of consider Annasui to be like the Trish of the part (since Weather doesn't interact with the mains a lot), who's gender contrasts with the mains.
