COMICS|OT|October 2017- The only thing scarier than Messi's avatar are Marvels sales

Astro City is so good it's kinda unfair for the other comics, imo.

It just sits there in the corner, churning out GOAT comics month after month for 20+ years (with a small few breaks). I cannot believe (but am ecstatic about) how long lived this and Usagi Yojimbo have been. If they hadn't established themselves decades ago in a market with fewer choices, I wonder if they would have found themselves going on for this long.

It won't happen because he likes using odd characters and lesser known ones in his books and on top of that his books don't sell. Sad really as he is a great writer.

I bet Zub is still on an Avengers book post No Surrender.

Well I wonder if any books are really selling that well with Marvel at the moment apart from the staples like amazing spidey, I would have had avengers added to that but theres so many avengers books that it probably dillutes the brand.

Maybe he could take a mainline series and then go down whichever weird story route he wants. Makes you think with comic fans these days whever they would have given Hickman a chance to write his long form stories if it was on anything other than mainline books eg FF & Avengers or whether if he was writing any smaller titles they would have cancelled him mid run, before any buzz could build for a series due to poor sales.

His books sell badly even by current Marvel standards. I also really doubt Marvel would allow them to take avengers down another odd path after having Mike del mundo on art didn't sell.

What's funny is that he has essentially written that long form story over his past few books. They all connect especially the past two runs.

How are there no solicits for Hickman's Avengers Omnibus vol 2? Hurry that shit up, Marvel.

I completely agree, said the same thing after the Marvel January Solicits came out lol. They were pretty quick to get the Waid Daredevil Vol 2 Omni announced so im hoping they will be doing the same with the Hickman Avengers. The singles had to have been one of their most popular books in the last few years.

Well as I've said before and I'm sure sadly will say again people don't know good comics these days. I still blame you all for not buying the crew ha. Yeah I can understand that for the avengers I guess, but why not give him a chance on the FF after the eventual come back or maybe give him a chance on a long form x-men series (can't be worst than recent runs)

Ohhh interesting, do you mean across the two ultimate series or is the story connecting in some of the series I haven't read of his like his inhumans stuff?

His New Avengers run hands off to USAvengers. Those books are so much fun.

I really need to catch up with that, I was trying to keep up with as much of avengers stuff as possible, main series, uncanny, champions so that one passed me by, does look like it has the more fun cast of characters though

GL Earth One info.

With Manapul off Trinity and Johns hinting that we would get some kind of Aquaman Earth One news soon, he's probably on that book now, right?

Green Lantern Earth One looks really cool and a neat new take on the character. Actually really interested in checking this one out. Aside from Wonder Woman Earth One, I havent been the biggest fan of these tbh.

Anyone check out the Black Hammer book this week? Ive heard such great things about the main series but just havent had the time to check it out. Hope Dark Horse does a Library Edition before the main series starts back up again.

I only read the first volume of black hammer about a month or so ago due to the fact I usually read stuff later in trade and to be honest a month later I'm still not sure how I feel about it. It was such a different book to what I was expecting, its half a very low key family drama about a family sharing a house in a small farming town mid america and half a homage to the classic superhero characters of the age. Got to admit I prefered the more hero parts and the psychadelic sci-fi/fantasy stuff over the family drama. Still think I probably will go back in for the second volume when it releases. As for the new series can't say on that yet as like I said I'm trade reading it.

It's Lion Forge's version of Milestone. A line with the goal of putting more diverse books out there.

I just wish the books were better than just "ok". I'm not against diversity--the more the better really--but I've tried all the Catalyst Prime books except Astonisher so far and the most I can say is..."Alright, sure."

What were you expecting?

For my part I loved the first volume, I wish DH were quicker about putting the collections out. I like that it's an homage in part but at the same time with modern storytelling sensibilities and modern issues for the cast. The stuff with Barbalien is interesting because he's so obviously a throwback but dealing with issues you would never have saw represented. With Gail, Lemire takes Shazam and has a good think about the concept and the implications of turning from an adult to a child and back.

I expected and enjoyed the homage/retelling of the old school characters I maybe just wasnt expecting the slow family drama to be such a big part of the story, I think obviously the contrast between the exciting super hero past of the characters and then them stuck living in the slow lane now is a major theme of the book, but can't say I didn't get a bit bored of so many pages of Abraham trying to chat up his old lady waitress girlfriend. Guess I just wish the book was all issues like the Colonel Weird issue which I thought was excellent.

Cool man. That's fair, I just thought you summed it up precisely as it was always sold hah, so I was just wondering. From the start, I feel like Lemire spoke about wanting to writing a dysfunctional family-team and an homage, driven forward by the mystery of why they're on the farm.

Thor #700 and Avengers 3 Infinity War Spoilers/Speculations:

Wonder if the MCU theroy of Thanos being in love with Hela (the Goddess of Death) instead of the original Death are actually right now that Hela and Thanos are hooking up in the latest issue of Thor.
Have they ever been together in the past like this before?

Is that an old piece being re-used? Looks like a poster from the Perez/Busiek run. Maybe 1990’s?

First they used old trading cards(done by a artist who left the company)for variants and now this.
I thought that too, but its that one Cover from Marvel/DC that we are thinking of. This is indeed new.
