Rewatched Code Geass now that it's on Netflix.
It holds up pretty well and despite having several of the usual cliches (high school setting, teen boy gets superpowers, childhood friend on the other side of the conflict, etc) it definitely manages to feel unique and different thanks both to Lelouch not being a generic Shonen main character and some interesting plot developments.
The ending does feel kinda rushed though.
And I just found out there's going to be a sequel movie next year so I guess it's good I got a refresher on the story

Yeah that's true, the creators even said to see the sequel as an alternative story. That's fine by me, I enjoyed both FMA and Brotherhood. This one though I worry is forced, Brotherhood was just adapting an already existing great story that is significantly different from the "original". With Code Geass they just came out after many years to bring out an sequel and forced changes to the original to make their sequel work. It's too similar to be a good alternative story and too different to be a simple sequel. I'll give it a chance, but I got no hype for it.

It's not even close to that. At least there is nothing alluding to this being the plot twist... just yet as far as the tv show goes(haven't read the manga). I would recommend watching the first episode. It is def a show that you will know if you want to continue after watching it.
Most shows I need like 2-3 episodes before I determine if I want to watch more.

Nothing new to watch besides Jojo so I'm continuing with rewatches.
Currently on Cowboy Bebop which I probably haven't watched in 10 years. Man, maybe it's because I'm older but this not only better than I remember but just simply a large step ahead most other stuff released in the 20 years since

Clearly David Pro knew that this scene was highly anticipated and they delivered. I'm glad I never read part 5 of Jojo, each new episode keeps my eyes wide open from start to finish. By far the most "out there" show of the season, plus you never have any idea of how a situation will be resolved. Ten years ago nobody was expecting such a consistently solid adaptation. What a time to be alive.

Had missed Rurouni Kenshin TV series back then, having only read the manga and watched the main OVA. Did watch few scattered episodes only. . Currently I am at the last 12 episodes. By todays standards this shonen adaptation is surprisingly violent. You even see people get cut to half, blood, beheadings etc
First filler arc is boring indeed but at least it adds good padding to the series. Episodes 28 to 60 are masterpieces and very few shonen titles do reach that quality in narrative, aesthetic and animation. Reminded a seinen approach.
Final filler arc is not as bad by Studio Deen. I especially liked the comedy episodes. Reminded a little of Fruits Basket, the peak for this kind of comedy. I'd go as far as to say that this filler arc is better than many official shonen manga adaptations and I liked the story better than in the manga with all the revenge a relative of someone sought on Kenshin
Animax dub is better than the old dub, except that they turned Misao from 16 to 18, because earlier in one scene she tried to seduce some yakuza to steal them. But as a result Yoshio turned 36! ("he is double your age"). Hilarious editing results...Her voice in the dub is unforgettable and one of a kind

Just wanted to chime in and say that I cannot believe I dropped anime/manga after my teens in favor of the US TV show. That stuff blows in comparison. Been having such an amazing time year.
Thanks to all for the tipps earlier this year. It's been a while since I was rooting that much with a stories characters.
Already can't wait to dig into Vagabond and Vinland saga. Might also switch to the manga with One Piece instead of the anime. Dunno.
- Read all of Berserk throughout the year (best story/characters I read in my life... and it ended in the most gruesome way, fucking Miura, lol)
- Read all of the available Attack on Titan manga (been amazing overall aside from the part that is covered with season 2 of the anime)
- Now in the midst of Slam Dunk (prolly one of the most amazing things I've ever read, great characters and the humor makes my cry to tears)
- Now in episode 74 of One Piece which has been an up and down for me. Still not sure what to think of it. Holing out until Alabasta arc and if I don't fully dig it by then I might drop it in favor of Detective Conon.
- Rewatched all of Dragon Ball and midway through Sayajin saga. Loooooovvvvvvveeeeeing it. BluRay quality is amazing!

Nice going, I used to watch a ton of anime in my teens too but I never dropped reading mangas.
I still don't watch many anime but once in a while something grabs my attention.
You're reading some amazing ones to be fair.
By the way here are some of my recommendation then (only finished mangas so you don't pile up ongoing series):
- Nausicaa
- Yuyu Hakusho
- Gunnm (Battle Angel Alita) (Before the movie hits)

Haha yeah that's why I gave you finished series, if not you end up like me with 50 ongoing series and checking new chapters all the time.
I try to wait sometimes so that I have 10+ chapters to read in one go.

Still this villain inspired one of the best FG characters since Last Blade pays mostly homage to that series
Episodes 90-94 are even worse. They add so many supernatural events that it does not feel like RK anymore but something like Doomed Megalopolis. By then I just waited for the series to finish without even paying attention. I liked the filler comedy episodes of the final arc the best.
I tried reading the most classic manga I could find through scanlations mostly. My recommendations:
-The 3 main works of Rumiko Takahashi (Ranma, Lum, Maison Ikkoku)
-Ichi the Killer and Homunculus
-Main works of Naoki Urasawa (20th Century Boys, Monster, Pluto, Billy Bat, Happy). Had to watch the anime version of Yawara and Master Keaton
-Most main manga of Osamu Tezuka (Astro Boy, Black Jack, Buddha, Hi no Tori, Hidamari no Ki, Adolf etc)
-Lone Wolf and Cub and Samurai Executioner (deserve the best manga of all time title, though Crying Freeman was not as good)
-Main works of CLAMP (X1999, Tsubasa Chonicle, XXXHolic, RG Veda etc)
-Some shonen I read and liked (Violinist of Hamelin, Ghost Sweeper Mikami, Gash Bell, Rurouni Kenshin, Fullmetal Alchemist, Saint Seiya)
-Manly shonen (Hokuto no Ken, Souten no Ken, Jojo part 1-7)
-Narutaru, Bokurano and other short works by M.Kitoh
-Alien 9, Milk Closet and other shorts by H.Tomizawa
-Freezia and Uncivilized Planet
-Goodbye Punpun, Dededede, Solanin and other short works by the same author
-Elfen Lied, Brynhildr in the Darkness and Nonononono
-Space Adventure Cobra (many western sci-fi comic influences there)
Vagabond and Vinland Saga are worth reading but notice that the latter changes pace dramatically in the second half. Main character becomes more mature. Blade of the Immortal is also essential if you liked Berserk and the 2 titles above. Shigurui as well.
I also read One Piece manga and skipped the anime. Not the best shonen manga when it comes to story, battle or characters but it is the best when it comes to fantasy world building and combining and referring past and present story events.
My favourite battle manga is 3x3 Eyes. It may be inspired by Dragon Ball but it is actually seinen. More violent battles, travelling throughout Asia, many Asian mythology elements, most beaten to a pulp protagonist, epic storyline etc One of the titles still carved in my memory. One reason I can not watch or read Dragon Ball after this. Dr Slump manga was more than enough for me to appreciate Toriyama

I had read Battle Angel Alita and sequel Last Order . Unforgettable experience too. Was browsing Gotlurk and its irc channel back then and would read whatever listed recommendations were available. Mangaupdates lists Last Order as finished in 19 volumes. Or is it on hiatus?

Yeah, I haven't read too many mangas either, though I've been a fan of the medium for over twenty years.
Last Order does end with volume 19. The author is working now on Mars Chronicle, a new arc (or saga if you will) that focuses on Alita's past and the events on planet Mars. The pacing is slow but I'd say Kishiro hasn't lost his edge.

Had no idea about it, though I'd prefer if he continued the story in Last Order. 3x3 Eyes author continues the franchise as well with a new spin-off manga it seems.

Actually, Mars Chronicle is a direct continuation of Last Order, we do get to see what Alita is up to, some characters even make a return, but Kishiro starts a long flashback arc about Alita's childhood.

Finished season 1 of Baki. I liked it, maybe a bit slow paced but the fighting is good. Yujiro is getting a worst dad award from me!
Will start season 2 soon but I am more excited about the 2018 version with a more modern animation.

Season 1 had a lot of "growing pains" that were already inherent in the comic and it skips a chunk of stuff too, which makes the flow kinda off sometimes. Season 2 focuses entirely on the maximum tournament and it's great. Tons of unique fights and memorable characters.
I'm waiting for the 2018 to finish so I can marathon it(Read it already way back so don't wanna week to week) but from the sequences I took a look at, other than more modern digital aspects, the animation and direction don't seem much different from the old series. That's arguably a good thing though. =P

If You liked Berserk and other darker stuff you should also try Ubel Blatt (although it get's weird in final arcs) and you might give Goblin Slayer a try.
Also on the not so brutal front Claymore might be worth reading ( reading not watching since anime butchered ending) and Darker than Black is good anime.

You're going to struggle to find 90s anime aesthetic in more modern stuff if that's what you are talking about. I read both YYH and HxH and I love them both.
Dunno about the anime though. I mean Gon is an optimistic character but the rest of the cast and the world itself it not.

Gon is way younger then yusuke. Not to mention also, that hisoka is one of the most OP characters in the show. Hisoka is on the same level of the spiders members, or could be even stronger then some of them. And Gon just learned nen, compared to hisoka who's been using nen for who knows how long. Even hisoka was impressed how far he's come in the greed island arc. Also Gon is based on kid Goku.
