Angry Video Game Nerd

This episode really makes me want to play the game. Looking at how James reacted I think he'd love some VN/adventures like 999 or Ever 17.

My all time favorite AVGN episode is the one where he reviews Batman games and goes completely crazy over the last game :)

Batman - Angry Video Game Nerd - Episode 52

New episode !

Good episode, but it sucks waiting months for an 11 minutes episode.

Though I get it, James has a wife and a kid, he can't produce these episodes like he could in the past.

I'm glad he decided not to hang it up even if it's a once in a blue moon thing, I assumed the movie (which was a disappointment) was going to be the end but thankfully he's still keeping on.

It's surreal to think I've been watching AVGN for over a decade now, I remember when I first discovered him in 2006 like it was yesterday.

He has two kids now.

I've been browsing through this entire thread and have found it to be a fascinating journey through time. It's hard to believe that James has been an internet phenomenon for twelve years now, and that this thread has kept up that entire time. It's been a lot of fun to go back and see the reactions to my favorite episodes as well as those that I didn't like at all. It's also been fun to chart the course of James' fame as well as the various controversies regarding he and (in particular) Mike. Seeing the comments about certain episodes takes me back to specific times in my own life and what was going on when I saw those same episodes myself. I never would have thought that I would be nostalgic for a comedy series about nostalgia.

The only thing that saddens me is that the thread suddenly slowed down over these last few pages. It seems that the last big talking point was the Ghostbusters non-review and that was two years ago. People aren't updating the thread with new James and Mike videos. I wonder if things have just slowed down because the Nerd series has become so infrequent or if some people have simply moved on. I hope not, I love watching just about anything that James does and have had a lot of fun going through this massive thread. I'd love to see it keep going strong.

Maybe this could encourage more discussion: If you had to pick just one of each, what is everyone's favorite episode and least favorite episode?

My least favorite would be the one with shit pickle, for sure. I have no issue with the shit jokes (shitting on the Jaguar CD was actually pretty funny), but just saying shit pickle over and over just didn't do it for me. Maybe it was one of those in-jokes between James and Mike that seemed funnier at the time between them, but it just didn't translate well to video.

There was something really enjoyable to me about the Atari 5200 video (and the other system reviews in general). It was that period of time when a lot of systems that not a lot of people knew about were starting to surface and gain more attention thanks to the internet, and I think James was definitely at the forefront of that. And because of that the format wasn't really established, and there's something really unique about this particular review. It's almost less about the system and more about the events surrounding it. We get to see how it affects the Nerds daily life, how unwieldy (and dangerous) the power brick is, how monsterous his gaming setup has become, and how inconvenient the whole thing has become trying to hook it up to his tv. We even get the first end label rant. And in the end he doesn't even get to play the system!

It just felt like a more personal time for the internet in general, and that review definitely reflects it. Only in those days could you get away with calling that video a review when he doesn't even actually play the system. I remember not having a single problem with that at the time. Today I would feel like the video was pulling a fast one on me.

I know I'm cheating, but I'm going to choose the Castlevania marathon. All of it. It's filled with nostalgia, his history with the series and references to earlier episodes, especially to his original AVGN episode. It has the parts where he focuses on what's frustrating which is great but it's also more lighthearted.
As for the least favorite, it's probably Toxic Crusaders. There are episodes that are not that interesting or the jokes don't hit that well but Toxic Crusaders is just painful to watch.

Really not looking forward to these. James just isn't good with "modern" games. I can tell the screenwave guys told him to play these. Hope it's not as unfunny as the Dirty Harry episode which they helped write.

His last few episodes have been so... static? That's the only word I can think of? They just lack the fun and energy of the older ones? He needs to stick to more classic games, that's where the fun is. Since he moved to Prime, his quality has gone up massively, but his "quality" has gone down for me :(

2 new episodes up on amazon. Guess this is gonna be the first time I don't watch a new AVGN on halloween.

And they kicked bootsy to the curb. Mike was probably jelly that Bootsy was way better at NES games.
One of the screenwave guys posted on 4chan and said he doesn't even want to touch on it so it was probably that along with a lot of other things. Mike has always been so insecure.

You know whats wierd, when i was younger i played the hell out of Castlevania II (beat it), Roger Rabbit (almost beat it), The Karate Kid (beat it), and TMNT (DAMN THIS GAME!)

and i absolutely loved them... so its kinda wierd when peopel recall these with.... less than fond memories to say the least :D

oh and as for Roger Rabbit and its logn ass password, i think its clear this dude has never played Battle Of Olympus... now THAT was a long ass password!!

if you want to talk abotu bad games.. talk about Hydlide .. ugh..

I'm with you, I loved Castlevania II but I think it's one of those that is impossible to beat if you don't know already what you are supposed to do, I didn't have Nintendo Power myself but I learned through friends how to progress.

He's a funny dude. Him, Redlettermedia, Smooth Mcgroove and Resonant arc (formerly dark pixel gaming) are really good. So is ACG and the happy console gamer. Phelous and the completionist also.

There are no questions included or a link to find out? This means nothing when I have no idea what he is talking about.

Nice to know James has basically no say in what gets an episode and what doesn't. Can't do an episode on a game if somebody big like jontron does it. Then the avgn episode won't be at the top of the youtube search!

Youtube doesn't pay what it used to so why not go for the "blue ocean" strategy.
