After the abs healed I'm now dealing with a shoulder injury. It was pretty bad for a few days, but feels a lot better now. I basically have taken no extended break from the gym since I started hitting it real hard about a year ago. Taking 10 days off to let my body heal up. I'll be back in there on Tuesday.

Fuck it, still not lifting weights until Tuesday, but I HATE not going to the gym. I'm gonna do some cardio today. Probably run 4 miles on the treadmill.

I arrived at my new place late last week, got my shipment of gear, and today I had my first workout squats/deadlifts and some calf work in my very own home gym. Going to get a quote to spray foam insulate the detached garage, otherwise I'll be freezing my balls off as it gets colder. Toque and a hoodie for now like a true warrior.

Since this pic, I've installed weight pegs, and have all my weights on the rack.

It's highly recommended to bolt the rack to the floor, but as it is, I may just leave it for now. I'm still not sure of the best spot to have it in the garage, as I need to be between ceiling joists to be able to overhead press as with the 45s on the bar there will be only certain areas I can get full extension.

I still need mirrors for mirin form check.

Oh, and one important thing to note: Having your own gym doesn't make you any stronger. Well, not yet anyways.

First workout after 10 days off. Just did bi's and tri's. Kept the weight low, but the shoulder felt ok. The real test will be on Thursday when I do chest. I did one set of the bar to see if I had any pain and my shoulder seemed ok. I may narrow my grip a little bit when I do bench. It'll be more tri and less chest, but it will be less stress on my shoulder.

I'm no expert, but for less stress on the shoulder, maybe try dumbell bench press until your shoulder can handle barbell again? Nice thing about dumbell bench press is the ability to keep the elbows in tight.

And I say that as someone that no longer has any access to a rack of dumbells (at least until stage 2 of my home gym as $ allows).

whew, kept the weight light and the shoulder felt ok. Didn't go higher than 135 on bench and didn't do any fly's. I'll hit chest a little harder next time around, but so far so good...

Has anyone noticed that when you get towards the bottom of the protein container every shake seems to give you the shits? I have a theory though. I think a lot of the artificial sweeter falls to the bottom and that is what is causing it. I just use the Gold Standard Double Rich Chocolate.

Try a 100% whey isolate rather than a concentrate/isolate blend if you're having digestive problems (from ON that'd be Platinum Hydro Whey, but there are less expensive options too).

I'd like to start studying as a PT and fitness trainer, where the hell I start? Lol
I have a 15 + years experience in training, now I suddenly realized - people were suggesting me to do so since forever tho - this could be my way in life
But I absolutely have no idea what to do first
Searching for 1° level fitness instructor lessons?

....yes?
I walk a lot but I don’t eat too restrained.

Well, you have about 122,500 Calories to lose. It's totally doable. Start restraining your eating and drinking to cut out sugar, alcohol, unnecessary snacking. Pick up some sort of vigorous exercise like running, cycling, swimming, elliptical. Keep a journal of what you're eating and how much exercise you're getting, plus regular intervals of weighing yourself in the morning.

If you're generally healthy and able-bodied to run, try the Couch to 5k program. There's an app that will guide you along.

Starting weightlifting will improve your body composition as well.

Cool I’m gonna take up bike riding more and try and do some resistance band and body weight workouts just not sure how to start I’ll look up some apps. The keeping a note idea is good.
I need to find a sweet spot for duration. I’m a guy with three kids so cannot do a massive session have to try and do a lot 30 mins to an hour maybe I dunno.
More like 15-30 realistically
I want something I can do while travelling like pushups etc you know

Yeah I may look into that. I'm definitely not getting enough protein. If that stuff stops the digestive issues then it's worth the extra money.

So I know Tesseract Tesseract said this thread was lacking content, so hopefully you guys like this. It's been almost a full year since I started getting back into fitness more seriously. Rogue’s annual sale is on if anyone’s looking for equipment. Echo Bike is a great all-around cardio device that I’ve been training with a lot lately, and their plates and racks are quality too.

Excellent work bro, significant change. What’s the game plan for your next goal?

Just maintain (easier said than done) and maybe pack on a few more pounds of muscle. I don't have the biggest frame, or best genetics to get huge, but I can get pretty lean.

As stupid as it sounds my next fitness goal is probably touching my toes. I have never been able to do that. My flexibility is so bad I can barely touch the bottoms of my knees with the tips of my fingers. I hate stretching though, so I need to just make it a normal part of my routine.

ja drake, keep up the docs dude, wonderful to see

hope you are fairly injury free in your journey

Yeah injuries aren't too bad. The 10 days off were huge. I was reading on bodybuilding.com and a lot of those guys take a full week off every 3 or 4 months. I'm probably gonna start doing that.

Good stuff.

A tip for anyone looking to buy a complete setup. If you are budget conscious and buying plates, ignore the 35s and don't buy unnecessary pairs of smaller sizes.

Get
45 x ?
35 x 0
25 x 2
10 x 2
5 x 4
2.5 x 2

This will allow you to hit every 5 pound increment in your range.

I live in a condo now, so a home gym isn't really in the cards for me, but I like going to the gym. Once you become a regular there and start interacting with everyone it really becomes quite fun. Also, seeing all the lovely ladies at the gym is a bonus. :messenger_grinning:

Been thinking about trying to lose some weight, maybe something small like 5 or 10 for now? Currently 220 something. I think my main issue is probably food, too much junk, not really sure how to transition into healthier eating habits.

My job consists of a lot of moving around and lifting and I have about an hour walk into work, I suppose I should be doing more but i'm not sure where I should start or what it could be.

Any advice?

I'm back but October wasn't as sober as intended. I cut out the green, processed carbs, caffeine significantly and after 5 days crashed hard. Oh well, I am here to hold myself accountable. It has been a rough month and when I weighed myself at the end I was at 216 pounds. I've now put on about 30 pounds this year and it is due to stress. I turn to a variety of things when my stress is out of control but they all revolve around instant gratification. Food, TV and video games are 3 of my biggest things and I have been turning to them in abundance this year.

It is tough to come back in here and say all this but it is the hard truth. The worst part of it all is that I KNOW it is a vicious downward spiral that feeds itself but it can be so tough to snap out of it. The truth is that I feel way better when I am healthy and denying myself those things that send me down the spiral. Time to cut out all the bullshit and excuses and just take it 1 day at a time. A few push ups here, a few angrily smashed pieces of candy there, a little fucking discipline and I can get this ship turned around.

I am glad to see folks in here tearing shit up and others trying to get back on track. ❤🏃‍♂️:messenger_fistbump:

I got up early and ran 2 miles before work today. I'm working on getting my fasting back on track and when I do eat, restricting my carbs and potentially pushing into keto. I just bought tickets to Sturgill's tour next May here in Portland for me and my old lady too. Off to a great start today!
