If this is true and they accept the roles then so far we have

Director - Matt Reeves

Robert Pattinson - Batman
Andy Serkis - Alfred
Jeffrey Wright - Jim Gordon
Zoë Kravitz - Catwoman
Paul Dano - The Riddler
Colin Farrell - Penguin

Should be the other other way around!

Serkis has a great face to play Penguin and Farrell could play a much more grizzled and hardened Alfred.

Just (hopefully) more evidence that this movie is going to attempt to be the live action version of the animated series and I am ALL ABOUT that.

What's up with these strange casting choices in the film? Matt Reeves looks to be going out of his way for them.

Same thing I said with Wright as Gordon, I'm gonna say with Farrell as Penguin: doesn't match the source material.

BUT, same thing I said with Wright as Gordon, I'm gonna say with Farrell as Penguin: they have the talent to pull off the role.

That's some interesting casting choices. I'll wait until some trailers come out or something before I pass judgment.

Didn’t even realize there are going to be more Batman movies.
So many people have played Batman at this point it feels fractured. What happened to Ben Afleck with the Batman roll? Sorry I don’t keep up with all the Hollywood rumor BS.

Seriously. Whoever makes these DC movies needs to take a long look at Marvel. Start small - just get a group of actors / actresses who will play the same role for a fairly long period of time. Enough changing who plays Batman. People genuinely cared when Ironman died. No one will give two turds if Batman dies in the next movie. That would have been unfathomable to me as a kid.

What happens when marvel wants to bring back iron man but downey aint...down? The entire audience needs to get used to the revolving door of actors playing the role of an iconic character just like og comic fans had to get used to the tiny differences in their favorite characters between artists.

Either that or start using nothing but deep fakes, one or the other.

I'd rather go the recasting route than the "insert name of character here" is dead until the actor agrees to play the role again. I mean, for movies disney is pumping out a lot of stories but think about it from an outside view: iron man died after like...15 missions? You just cant get the same scope as the comics these movies are aping if you dont go for serial story telling over the course of decades and you cant have that with flaky actors and crazy legal contracts/obligations, at least not without that being more effort than it's worth.

Tldr: anyone with a pencil stash and an attitude can be tony stark. It needlessly balloons the cost of these movies when we cling to celebrities and even ends up limiting the story telling.

I don't think Disney will recast unless the entire Universe is rebooted. Would probably have a new character become Iron Man like Cap. But its kind of apples and oranges to compare hypothetical MCU recasting, with the revolving door in DC.

Thing is like 5-6 people have already played Batman and there’s been only 1 IronMan I think comic movie buffs are forgiving and understand things change but to change this many times makes the character look like anybody can be Batman.

Well see. Like you said, they may have to reboot someday. The sales of their comics show they cant just shoehorn new characters into old roles. Eventually, people get mad at the schtick and move on.
These marvel movies are going to eventually be between a rock and a hard place.

They aren't doing that in the movies though. Cap organically passed the torch after a long run. And any new Iron Man would probably be TS's daughter, which would be perfectly natural as long as she follows in her dads footsteps.

Like I said, well see. The comics tried that and failed, sales wise. I imagine the movies will flounder for a bit until they bring back the big guys everyone loves, just like the comics.
When I say flounder, I specifically mean storytellingwise. No matter the quality, the new movies are going to set sales records but the stories themselves, I feel, run the risk of being very superfluous in the next phase, ie, just time wasters to set up/think up the next thanos level event.

Scrap it and put batman in a movie with, Arthur Fleck retcon the time period difference if you have to. Though I am a Serkis fan

If they use fleck for the joker, which I'm not sure I'm for or against yet, they should just add crazy makeup to make him seem aged. In fact, you can see a lot more gray in his stubble in the last few close ups of the movie which I took as a suggestion that hed aged a few years at least.

Also, his extreme skinnyness almost made him (Phoenix) seem younger than he is in real life and I'm not sure that wasnt done on purpose, if only so later, he could play an aged joker that more naturally.

The whole throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks approach for DC is interesting at the very least.
