Woke Hollywood gets burned by ‘Charlie’s Angels’ (and Terminator) box office bomb

The point is, he doesn't divulge in to the bullshit political topics that people whinge about on this forum. He looks at the film as a film. He doesn't bring up his own political beliefs and blah blah.
And he isn't an insulting wanker like the other video posted, that guy most likely hasn't seen the film anyway as he misses out on many various points throughout his "recap"..
“He looks at the film as a film.” Do you hear yourself?

I find it pretty telling that you consider a. Negative review “insulting” a movie. That explains a lot.

No
Stuckmann gave it a negative review but again, focused on the film at hand and not the bullshit politics. His review is not insulting at all.

When you think Charlie's Angels, name one person on Earth that would picture the trio of heroines as this? lol

So he ignored the politics. Good for him and his fans.

That doesn't mean others have to ignore that as well. Oh let me guess. They aren't "looking at the film as a film."?

Thank you for not wasting my time, your opinion doesn't matter.

Your so busy attacking people on here you don't even realise your defending and attacking the same opinions.

"He looks at the film as a film. He doesn't bring up his own political beliefs and blah blah."

His opinion is exactly the same as my mine. The one you said doesn't matter.

Lol.

Only glanced at topic, but don’t think “wokeness” is why either movie bombed. Just franchises that nobody was really asking for more of. Terminator has been run to the ground. When the last good one was released 28 years ago, hard to imagine a hit is coming unless was just oozing quality (which this one wasn’t on that kind of level). Also a near 200 million dollar budget was just a laughable move. Would have to just be a monster hit to churn a profit.

Charlie’s Angels as a franchise was again, one don’t think anybody was wanting. Not like the 00s reboot left people wanting more.

What? You said you haven't seen the film, Stuckmann has.

I didn't need to see the film. Like most people I watched the trailer and realized it was shit.

LMAO
You can have your opinion on the trailer, that's valid but a trailer and an actual film are very different.
Sometimes marketing fuck up the trailer and the film is great, sometimes marketing splice together an amazing trailer but the film sucks.

Sometimes they do, but this a low rent Charlie's Angels reboot starring who? and directed by some obsolete old bag. It's not David Lynch's latest opus. There's no subtle, hidden depths here that the marketing gurus weren't smart enough to pick up on. It's shit.

Stop talking crap. I said your opinion doesn't matter because you haven't seen the film. It's a very simple concept to understand.

Women.

Group A: They will tell you masculinity is toxic and you should hate yourself.
Group B: They want nothing more than a overtly masculine guy who shows leadership and assertiveness.
Almost all women I know hate that woke shit much more than even I do.
They want to see real men, doing men things.

Or maybe they didn't fail due to politics or because they are shit.
Maybe they failed because they were poorly marketed.
Nothing I saw from this movie made me wanna see it.
And I am a fan of Elizabeth Banks. I really loved her in EVERY scene in every movie I have ever seen her in.
But when I see that lesbian hair cut heroine chic styled lead and those other two bland broads, I honestly feel repulsed.

It's just a perfect storm of uninteresting things coming together.
This movie simply has NOTHING going for it.

Also, I think Banks made some unfortunate comments, but that doesn't make the movie "woke" per say.
It's Charlies Angels. It's supposed to be hot girls kicking ass.
It's just that they forgot the "hot".

I’m guessing it has something to do with this.

🤷‍♂️
It had nothing to do with that. I don't think most people even knew about that and they wouldn't have even cared if they did. Only a small minority got upset about that. The movie failed at the box office because people aren't very interested about new Terminator movies. Genisys didn't do well either.

This. The movies didn't bomb because they were "woke" they bombed because they were bad movies from washed up franchises.

Kristen Stewart looks like Neil Patrick Harris lol

lol, yea I'm not a fan of women trying to look boyish. I like women to look like women. They are plenty of women who have pulled off the pixie cut look such as harrie berry or jamie lee curtis in true lies. Kristen Stewart just doesn't have that It factor. isn't doing it for me

I agree. Some of them can pull it off, but Kristen Stewart looks like a cross between Chicken Little and Neil Patrick Harris lmao

I agree with you for Terminator, but there's no way the infused political messaging didn't harm Charle Angels. The director was heavily marketing the idea that this was a feminist empowerment movie. While that in and of itself isn't a bad thing, people go to see Charlie's Angels first to see badass girls kick ass. They don't go see it to have a virtual signaling director spoon feed her political beliefs to the audience. TLDR: they replaced what audiences want (action) with what the series use to not have (third wave feminism).

Fair enough.

I read her Ion Fury article back then and thought it was a decent piece of work and some of her game reviews on Niche Gamer are also very good. That being said, I'd take her journalistic output more seriously, if she didn't present herself like that. Especially considering that some of her work is somewhat derivative and seemingly laser focused on serving a special kind of audience. That string of tweets was nothing more than an amalgamation of already well known and widely spread arguments and examples, so really not that especially insightful in that regard. In that regard, I highly doubt reshashing these tired arguments will serve the desired purpose of making "woke directors STFU".

It just irks me when people, who otherwise are capable of decent work, do stuff like that. She's smart enough to not be needing that. Finally I do realize that my criticism was a little bit under the belt and not in line with what I usually post on here.

Now I just find it humorous that you have an issue with her because you feel she's capable of better work, and I had an issue with you original post because I feel you're capable of better criticism. Thanks for the clarification, though. That's kind of funny.

That's what I heard but I have no idea if it's true. Wouldnt surprise me though.

during the end credits scene you see a womans arm but to me it comes across as something sinister. Bait for the next film. But since there is not going to be a sequel it doesn't matter and can be ignored. lol

who are in that "small minority"? Men who like sci-fi? Men who like the previous films in the franchise?

It seems pretty stupid to me to antagonize any "small minorty" when you are trying to sell a niche product.

Only crazy people with agendas look for, promote and get angry at these comments. Majority of film viewers don't even know who directors and producers are, all they know are the actors and the trailers they see. My family, my friends in Australia, my friends in the Philippines, none of them take notice of directors or producers.
Out of everyone I know, only 3-4 people take note of who the creators of movies are.

And again, I say, he wasn't attacking anyone in the fan base, he was just commenting on what he has noticed online. A vocal minority who are misogynists. No one saw these films because they simply weren't interested, not because of anything "woke". There are equal number of "none woke" movies that are failing at the box office too but you don't see a thread about that on these forums.

Agenda pushing.

I enjoyed all the videos taking a steaming dump on Elizabeth Banks.

To be honest, I didn't even notice this movie existed. I follow anti-SJW stuff pretty frequently. I just didn't even hear about Charlie's Angels even being a thing. I heard a ton more about Ghostbusters 2016.

I'll give Elizabeth Banks credit on one point. She has a gracious sense of self-depricating humor. Classy way to take the loss.

Writer, director, producer, actor. Yikes ... her career took a HIT.

She compared her movie to Spider-Man, like she thought they were at all in the league lol

Yep, those woke movies certainly are failing. The none woke films are doing gangbusters!!!

Jojo Rabbit - 14 million budget

Doctor Sleep - 55 million budget

Ford v Ferrari - 100 million budget

Midway - 100 million budget

Rambo: Last Blood - 50 million budget

oh
I guess the anti-woke brigade don't go to the theatres either.

I've seen 4 out of the 5 movies I listed and enjoyed them.

Have the directors of these movies come out on social media to blast whoever they blame for the flops? lol

I wouldn't know, I don't follow Twitter or any social network platforms.
^_^

*EDIT*
I don't even follow any websites that indulge in twitter drama. I try to stick to sites that stick to news about the films themselves.

As much as I love woke culture being shit on, wasn't it the case that Terminator was falsely labeled as being affected by the woke masses?

Edit - nevermind I see it was just posted a few posts earlier the article that mentions it's wokeness. Well, glad to see 2 wokes smashed

Seems like most women are not attracted to blatant wokeness in movies either.

You should take a gander at the Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB reviews for Dave Chapelle's Sticks and Stones special - loudly shit on heavily by THE WOKE yet there it sits with tens of thousands of super high user scores with endless 10's given by women also. I think in general THE WOKE is just this super super loud vocal internet minority that real world men and women both are fucking sick of.

Thanks, I'll check it out 👍

Charlie’s angels has always been about sexy women who are strong and kick arse. It was like that in the 70s, in the reboots, and now. There is a scale of wokeness and whole stuff like Gillette’s masculinity advert was on one end I don’t think it’s fair to include this one in it on that far end.

plus something that was far more overt in its feminist overtones was captain marvel and that made a billion dollars so it’s easy to pick and choose. Just like some will say “no one asked for Charlie’s angels” the excuses that get rolled out for captain marvel “oh it’s an MCU film” etc.

I think people in general get too up in arms over Hollywood being too woke or not woke enough. It’s ok to have nods to political issues in your films- it’s also ok not to. Just watch the movie. Even joker if you want to analyse it is a far more damning left wing critique of the US mental health system and how America treats its less fortunate in society. Like for a film that a bunch of left wing crusaders wanted to boycott ... and for a film trump screened in the White House- it’s quite radical. Side note how did trump screen it without getting the hypocrisy- he is the Thomas Wayne character! The one the films explicitly says is the cause of so many problems. He would openly mock someone like Arthur fleck. Ah well.

The director said misogynistic internet trolls. He didn't say all men. Why would all man scifi fans get upset by that?

What's funny about the wokeness issue with Charlie's Angels, is that the title itself is not woke. I mean the women are reduced to being the attractive objects (i.e., angels) that belong to a man, Charlie.
