Almost 40% of Mario Kart Tour players are female.

Company president Shuntaro Furukawa discussed two Nintendo titles with a relatively high ratio of female players during a financial results briefing this week.

Mario Kart Tour released in September 2019 and reportedly surpassed 123 million downloads in its first month, making it by far Nintendo’s most successful mobile game launch in terms of installs.

“This application is played by a wide range of consumers,” according to Furukawa, “and female consumers account for nearly 40% of the total.”

Casuals.

On the serious front, I tried it once, and I was mystified as to why I kept winning every race. EVERY race. Turns out casuals can't race.

Did you play it before a week ago? Because if so you weren't up against real people. Multiplayer wasn't added in until Jan 23.

Oh ok then. That explains that.

Edit: I just raced again ten mins ago and came first so...

Finally got them off The Sims 4 for five minutes.

Sims 4 is more of a game than some tappy tappy finger racer on phone. Don't belittle the sims 4!

Annnnd thread derailed. Lmao.

What’s super-weird is that I was actually about to play some Kart. :messenger_hushed: The real one, tho.

This is cool news though. It’s always nice to see more female gamers (so I’m less weird 😋 ), and the more people that play, the more fun to share, honestly.

At least the Sitgma that videogames are only for Men is almost gone.

Unless you go to multiplayer, you are playing bots when doing the cups. Multiplayer was in testing phase and wasn’t up long. Aka you’ve only raced bots

So why is this even worth mentioning?
So 40 percent are female. Okay. Why is this something that needs to be mentioned?
Its a big untapped market. So it’s pretty impressive. Gaming market should be way bigger than it is. Its going to be pretty intense how people here are going to react when AAA games with huge budgets start targeting women first, men second.

That’s cool, but... what are we trying to imply with this data?

As you can see from some jokes in here (which did make me laugh and would get people banned elsewhere, alas), publishing this data could have the effect of reinforcing stereotypes instead of bringing them down.
(chill guys, stereotypes can be fun if you’re not the type that gets riled up at the mere idea, this is not a SJW post:messenger_winking:)

Does it matter what gender you are if you’re having fun?
Does this data mean that... huh... “females” are going to surpass “males” one day as the gender that plays more video games? Would that be a positive?
Is there something inherently wrong with “females” playing less video games than “males”? Would equality of time spent gaming be a social conquest for women?

MK is cute, easy to pick up, and has enough characters to be “representative” of virtually anyone who wants to give it a try. Does this tell more about the game, or more about general preferences of women in gaming?

Because you see, if I sit down for a game of MK with one or more women, if they’ve never played the game or they don’t usually play games, I don’t expect them to kick my ass, but that’s not because they’re women, it’s because they’ve spent less time with the game than me.
I’ve had my ass kicked by women in racing games, fighters, sports games. This didn’t make me think “holy crap, a woman can be good at games too!” or “you know what, I’m gonna marry this gal!”. No, this tells me that there’s women who play a lot of video games out there (and why would that not be?), but this doesn’t change the fact that most women I know don’t play games or just like to chill with a little, simple cell phone game in their free time.
MK Tour isn’t a gateway for its female players to buy a console or gaming PC and start playing all kinds of video games.

So you see, telling me that MK Tour is 40% “female” tells me nothing.
I don’t see women playing games as women “intruding in my boys-only club”, and I don’t think more women playing games is a blow to the patriarchy and a great social conquest for women.
Women play games? The more the merrier!

I think what we can expect is more games that try to cater to everyone's needs and preferences. Thing is you end up with games that lack their own identity.

I dont think so. I dont even know how you can even make such a game.

Developers are going to be targeting other groups besides men. And men are gonna get upset, especially the white ones. They get offended by the offended while getting offended. Demographics, consequences.

Or creative vision and freedom. My favorite thing is when the woke demand diversity and all that other nonsense and you see a photo of the dev. team, its usually 99% Caucasian. They are the creators and talent, let the talent thrive.

casual games and mobiles.

Wake me up again when females have any meaningful precentage in any actual gaming platform.

Gender doesn't matter.

What matters is if they are Asian players.

Then they wreck us cause they're so god damn good.
