Valorant closed beta begins April 7

The closed beta for character-based first-person tactical shooter Valorant will begin on April 7 in North America, Europe, Russia, and Turkey, developer Riot Games announced. It will roll out to other parts of the world in the months thereafter.

Here is an overview of the game and closed beta, via its official website:
■ About

Be the First

Want in on the Valorant Closed Beta? Get a Riot account, link it with a Twitch account, and watch streams for a chance to get in.

Where Precise Gunplay Matters

Here’s what we think it takes for you to trust a game enough to invest: 128-tick servers, at least 30 frames per second on most min-spec computers (even dating back a decade), 60 to 144-plus frames per second on modern gaming rigs, a global spread of datacenters aimed at <35ms for players in major cities around the world, a netcode we’ve been obsessing over for years, and a commitment to anti-cheat from day one.

Shooting in Valorant is precise, consequential, and highly-lethal – we want you to win on your skill and strategy alone.

…But Creativity is Your Greatest Weapon

Imagine this: tactical shooter meets hypernatural powers. Everyone’s got guns and a unique set of abilities, so how do you beat someone with the speed of wind? Use your own moves to outplay them and beat them to the shot. Valorant is a game for bold strategists who dare to make the unexpected play, because if it wins, it works.

■ FAQ

01. When does Valorant launch?

Summer 2020

02. How do I get into the Closed Beta?

  1. Register for a Riot Games account.
  2. Link your account to your Twitch account (don’t have one? Create one here).
  3. Watch certain Valorant streams on Twitch for a chance to get access.
03. In what regions will Valorant be available to play?

Valorant is starting its rolling Closed Beta on April 7, beginning with Canada, United States, Turkey, Russia, and Europe. We’ll roll out to other parts of the world in the months thereafter.

04. Is Valorant going to be free to play?

Valorant is entirely free to play, but you can purchase in-game cosmetics.

05. Can I run Valorant on my PC?

Valorant is optimized to perform on a wide variety of PC hardware, allowing for a global audience to compete

  • Minimum Spec – 30 frames per second:
    • CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
    • GPU: Intel HD 3000
  • Recommended Spec – 60 frames per second:
    • CPU: Intel i3-4150
    • GPU: Geforce GT 730
  • High-end Spec – 144+ frames per second:
    • CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 3.2GHz
    • GPU: GTX 1050 Ti
  • PC hardware requirements:
    • Windows 7/8/10 64-bit
    • 4GB RAM
    • 1GB of VRAM
06. Can you guarantee I’ll have 35ms of ping or less?

No guarantees. While we’re trying to get data centers up all around the world to maintain low latency for all Valorant players, we know there are some places we just can’t get a datacenter close enough, which means your ping may be higher. This could either be because there aren’t enough players where you are, or it’s difficult to get a physical datacenter established in that region (security issues, political stability, etc).

Just linked my accounts. So pumped for 128 tick servers and I really hope Riot can pull it off. I am excited to see what they can do outside LoL

So the game is open to streamers in 5 hours and we should start seeing footage? I think overall the combo is a terrible idea for a game, but it's the first time I've seen a shakeup of Counter Strike in any form. The abilities just seem too juxtaposed to the hitscan headshots of Counter Strike where you blink and you're dead. But the promise of dedication to the technical side in terms of networking/anti cheat has me interested I guess, knowing I won't be frustrated by non-gameplay shit.

Apex (and Titanfall) movement has ruined small scale squad battles for me.. ill still give this a shot due to 128 tick servers and netcode.

WHy does it look like a game from 15 years ago? So everyone can play it regardless of rig?

These guys made one of the most popular games of all time (LoL), and they know that part of the reason for its success is low system requirements.

That one is strange I guess. Might be for an "all ages" appeal?
Right? I mean, in this day and age almost every game has some from of ragdoll or something similar. It was the first thing I noticed, just made it feel very old school. Figured it was just to help lighten the engine's load even more so. 🤷‍♂️

BUt they're overly dated - the graphics. Makes me think they wanna go mobile/crossplay with this? At least give PC users the option to have modern graphics.

Im sure they've done the ROI analysis on having better graphics vs having higher adoption/$

I dont know why all streamers were basically praising this game to heavens and back

Im guessing a lot of the benefits are not visible in videos/screenshots... things like server tick rates, gun play/feel, balance, etc... you know the stuff that makes competitive shooters more fun to play vs more fun to watch

I'm starved for a good fresh competitive game in that vein and I'm not be the only one.

Definitely looking forward to try Valorant out.

Yeah me too.. And don't get me wrong, it's not like I want it to be bad, I just find it annoying to not "get it". To me it looks so drab, both gfx and gameplay. But I can accept that I may be in the wrong.

Been watching a stream all morning trying to get a key. I'm a huge CS player this seems fresh, We've really been hurting for a team based-round multiplayer game I'm personally been getting tired of all these battle royals.

Truth. But it IS so weird seeing no ragdoll physics lmao.
Unless the game works heavily with physics then it is pointless to put ragdolls in. It makes sense for games like Force Unleashed where you fling your opponents half way across the planet with each force push but they don't really add anything in FPS games aside from client side issues where, for example, a person dies in such a way that it might block a view for one person but on someone else's pc the ragdoll might have happened a bit differently and his view isn't blocked.

Good point! I'm just a big fan of ragdoll and always have been, haha.

It is a minor issue and it happens so extremely rarely that most people don't care about it, but it did happen to me a few times. A view was blocked but I got shot through that corpse and on the kill cam there was no corpse obstructing the enemy's view.

If anyone has a spare closed beta key, you'd make my sixteen year old son's day and I'll see about giving a Steam key back in exchange! Thank you!

I don't think they give keys. You need to watch twitch streamers play the game while having your twitch account linked to Riot account and you might be randomly selected, from among the viewers, to get access on your Riot account.

LOL 1.6 million people concurrently watchin valorant streamers. That beta drop thing is definitely working out for them.

My poor son is watching along with the other 1.6 million. :messenger_pensive: If anyone gets one, I'll exchange it for a Steam game of your choice up to $60.

Well as mcz117chief mcz117chief already mentioned that doesn't really work since whover gets in would need to hand you their riot account. Well I guess it would kind of work if it's new or a dummy account..

I don’t know about paid bots. I am watching from three different accounts on 3 different ips. I am sure there are many others boosting even more.

As much as I want to be interested in this, I'm more interested in the hype behind it. Watching it play it literally just looks and feels like CS + OW. :pie_thinking:

Counter-Strike literally has the best gunplay of any shooter. It has been a staple for over 20 years.... not sure how that is a negative.

This game has potential to be huge especially with the anti-cheat Riot is touting.

And that is very good, isn't it? I would like something like Counter Strike but a bit different.
I suppose so, I mean, at least it's something different. Even if it's just a hodge podge of two other IPs. Hell, it's not a battle royale, so that makes me happy.

I'll definitely give it a shot regardless, I'm hoping it clicks with me more than I think it may!

Got into the beta and played for a few matches. Well ye it's basically CS with heros. Not too much of my thing but still fun.

What's immediately apparent is how orgasmic smooth the gameplay is. From netcode to graphics to menues. Nothing lags nothing hitches, it's just buttery smooth perfection. Comming from Apex you notice how much of a mess it is compared to this goodness.
