I wasn't on team Tsushima till today. Only thing I'm kinda iffy about is the combat. It looked almost scripted. Anyone know more about it?

1. The UI is gone and instead, the world tells you where to go

Kind of bullshit and even when they are using environmental clues, it's not exactly subtle. The map is still littered with object markers and even the non marked items on the map seem to have animal leading you by the nose. Some of that seems completely unnecessary. The encampment was marked by a question mark on the map and then you could way point it and have gust of wind lead you, but why is this necessary. There is a plum of smoke from the encampment that you could just ride to by looking at the sky. You have this beautiful environment that can tell the player a story but you are so afraid they'll miss content that you need to hand hold them. The animal bit is a good idea, but why not have something akin to a buzzard circling overhead to lead you to that "woods are haunted" NPC instead of Navi in bird form showing you the way?

Honestly, Devs should just build in navigation UI and environmental hints and let people turn off the former (or turn it on or off by default).

Then people can play how they like. I like a lot of aids/markers/mini maps as I hate wandering around aimlessly. Others like exploring with very little guidance. Not that hard to allow both.

nobody noticed the bear fighting 2 mongols here, it reminds me of days gone\rdr2

I noticed that when it was playing live, I was like "yo did a dude just get eaten"

Link ain’t no Samurai. Fuck that girly man. 😜

Some games do this (Witcher 3) but the problem is that quest descriptions usually don't take into account all the navigation being turned off which can be a miserable experience for trying to progress. It's a fine line to straddle I guess.

let me know when open world games get this level of combat, world and puzzle flexibility ill wait

A bunch of glitches really isn’t making your case.

As someone who would call BotW a serious step forward for open world games, as well.

Anyway, we probably don’t need BotW versus Ghost screeching (intelligent comparisons, yes) in this thread. That’s kind of dumb. Not only is it the most Why Not Both thing ever, we just got a huge info drop that’s a lot more fascinating.

Yep, looks generic as expected. Pity there's only one Kojipro in the AAA industry, everybody else seems to be content with making the SAME fucking game over and over.

"Lets make waypoint arrows into animals. Completely organic exploration!" Facepalm.

Oh and Rdr 2 completely destroys it visually and technically(world design wise too most likely) no contest here

This is such one of “those” games (Ubi anything, Days Gone, Far Cry, Horizon, Creed etc.) Checklist open world action in a unique world. Been there done that....except in feudal Japan.

Im going to fucking destroy this game. Bring on 7/17 👍🏻

Christ alive, was BOTW your first open world game or something?
BOTW is for some the first open world of their lives. They threat the game like the return of Messias. Reminds me when I was on resetera and someone created a thread saying Witcher 3 Blood and Wine mountain copy BOTW mountain. I guess you're there as well in that thread.
Frankly, there are people here who don't play video games. Quite bizarre.

I find the no color cinema mode neat, although I wouldn't use it really. But it's a good idea/option as well.

I also find the colorfull visuals very charming. I was kinda with good hopes for this game, but now I'm all for it. This video totally sold the game for me.

Looks good but not a purchase for me until it’s on sale for £15 in a few years. even though i’ve never played any Assassins Creed before, that new one set in the Anglo Saxon era looks so great i’m probably buying a PS5 day 1 just to play it properly. feels like these 2 games are the direct competition for eachother this year.

This is must buy for me. I wasn't sure about the more aggressive gameplay because it looked a little laboured but I'll be concentrating on stealth anyway so that's no problem. I love the atmosphere they've created in this too. Following the fox had me strangely excited to see what other things are in this game along those lines.

If im being real, this one hit parry kill combat system just doesn't look fun. Parries are fun as a stagger not a kill button. I need to know a lot more about the mechanics as well, is there movement, rolls, dodges etc. Combos?

Ninja mode looks thin as well. I got some cool Tenchu vibes but it feels like there will be no real consequence to being spotted

I hope its good but I hope they didn't sacrifice deep gameplay to make it look like a samurai movie

Also there are no supernatural elements right? Just fighting human NPCs is ... meh.

Apparently they released a story trailer with Japanese VO last week that can be found here:

The performances are good as is the script but it definitely doesn't look like they adjusted the lip-synch and facial animations to match the VAs so it feels a bit off. I also don't like some of the choices for actors though they're really good normally. It also feels like the JP audio isn't mixed right but I'm not sure. English VAing is stellar though so I hope they spend a bit more time polishing the Japanese VA tracks

So we saw a lot of fona in those videos. Think we will be able to hunt/kill them? (outside of 'missions') I saw that boar attacking someone and I saw a few deer. Maybe I am just too redneck, but i wanted to hunt them like RDR2. But with foxes and birds helping you, it might feel weird killing some but not others. So what yall think? We get to kill them or are they just asthetics?

You see .. you can recognize what is wrong with this person when he talks or type shit but let’s make it clear now . Praising a game over another without playing it ! That’s something else

the combat with the instant kill counter remind me of assassins creed 1 with enemies taking turn to attack.

i hope hard mode made the ia more aggressive.

Looks good but not great.

I have it pre-ordered and will play it day one, but i am bummed it seems pretty uninspired.

Wow this looks really cool aesthetically and stylistically, but idk how to describe it there was something so off with the combat and the stealth. It felt floaty with no real intensity with your attacks, and even though I really appreciate the gadgets with stealth, something feels off with it.

I do really respect the move away from quest markers and UI elements, although the I think assassins creed did it better without any marker and instead having to actually use the map to find your main mission area.

The visuals are good but I hope the gameplay is not as boring as HZD. I guess the creativity of games like Zelda BOTW (even though I wasn’ta big fan of the over reliance of rotation mechanics in the dungeons) really can spoil a genre for someone.

Complete opposite for me, to me HZD spoiled other open world games for me and the gameplay, combat and bosses in botw were so boring and I forced myself to finish it. I hope the gameplay in no way is like botw. They mentioned assassin's creed and I hope it's not too similar to that either because Assn Creed games are too filler imo and the opposite reason I hated botw empty world.

Either way thankfully this game looks like it will be better than both. Graphics look 🔥🔥 and combat looks good.

This is true only if they design the game around not having navigation helpers on first.

I for one hates quest markers, secret markers and other similar ui elements, they make a game feel like a laundry list of items that have to be checked... I play to entertain myself, not to have a second wife or something.

I'm curious to know if being Ghost and Samurai works same way as Evil side and good side in InFAMOUS games.

Absolutely Bonkers Video......This could very well pass as a next gen game. Exploration, Combat, Ghost Mode and customization are all top tier level......I'm extremely impressed with the gameplay, animations and visuals, tbh, at certain camera angles, the characters look real. Bonkers physics, how can the jaguar do those physics as we've seen on so many SWWS games, very impressive the talent and tech in these studios.....Graphically, this and LOU2 are going to fight hard for it, but whichever wins, no one loses.....This is premium gaming content right there on a production level...….No other studios are pushing such quality in graphics, animation and physics right now....

The game hasn't done shit for modern open world games, it's all been done before.
BoTW is a great game, but for folks that already been playing open world games, for them it was just an open world Zelda, nothing special.
All open world games are formulated right down to the gameplay loop, they are all pretty much the same.
They all have a variety of towers to reveal the map, a variety of shrines to power up the character and mini bosses and regular bosses.
All the same, just the art style and difficulty that makes them different.

"The dishonorable Ghost"

Hmm Maybe. There does seem to e a persistent reputation element affected by the player's actions.

People moaning about the 1 hit kill, you do know thats how samurai trained to kill? Quick, swift, clean counters and kills (or at least portrait in cinema and tv), the ghost looks more scrappy and underhanded, the opposite to a samurai, again that was the whole point of ninja, to kill by any means possible, from the shadows.

As a boomer I often wonder what kids were raised on, for me it was films like 7 samurai, yojimbo, where its all about honour, precision strikes that flow and manga like ninja scroll, this game captures that tone perfectly to me

Seeing this combat, is like seeing nostalgia, the swift counters and stances, in a windswept bamboo grove

I will admit I hate the ui at the bottom and the slowdown assist thing.

Get rid of all that, no ui, no assist, no slowdown and its basically my dream samurai game, with a sound track that is spot on

I dont wanna dmc or souls combat, that's not how I picture samurai combat, bashindo blade was the last game to get that right, and this looks like a next gen version of it thank god.

I’m curious to know if you can switch between the two. In InFAMOUS games once you chosen which side you are going for, you have to stick to that one side.
