Wtf does 3.5 hours to finish means.?

It'a an ARPG right? Its about the loot right?
Getting better loot&repeat
Yes
There's various grade of difficulties for every stage (not only the Classic Easy normal hard) more Is hard and the loot Is high

So far, the PC version is getting a 76 on Metacritic. Sounds about right. MD is basically a low key and less intense Diablo, but with MC looks.

Looks like a good game for loot clickers wanting a family friendly setting, instead of Diablo blood and guts splattering everywhere.

Can't expect too much from a game that sells for $20.

What a great string of family friendly Xbox games: Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Minecraft Dungeons and Grounded. Ori was fantastic. My kids love Minecraft and I know my 6 year old is going to be hyped to play this with dad. We just watched Honey, I Shrunk the Kids and it was a big hit at my house. So my kids are primed for the base building, bug killing, survival action of Grounded, I'm sure.

Shacknews review

“Foundation for adventure”

7 / 10
Pros
  • Easy to pick up and play
  • Drop-in, drop-out co-op
  • Cool procedurally-generated levels based on Minecraft biomes
  • No overly complex systems
  • Secret levels and grottos abound
  • The key is hilarious and a creative idea
Cons
  • Difficulty spikes fast, especially in the late game
  • Environments sometimes block view of enemies
  • Character stat improvement is dependent entirely on random gear drops
  • Shops only sell random items
  • No crafting system
  • Too short

3.5 hours!? That's incredibly disappointing. I was really excited for this to fill a bit of an arpg void after playing Diablo 3 to death.

Don't know if I'll even bother now.

For $20 I'll try it out. It really sounds like this is more of a run based roguelike, but 3.5 hours is long for that style.
Most Issac/Gungeon/Spelunky etc. runs take an hour or so, and that's if you go the distance.

Looks like reviewers racing to the credits and never exploring or checking out other stuff again.

From what I understand (still have to wait 3 hours to play it) the “campaign“ is basically the tutorial, similar to Diablo 3.

Guess we'll wait and see.

I really hope it ends up being a lot deeper than the reviews are making it out to be.

The only other measurement I have is some tweets and a twitch stream, but they seem to agree that you need to watch the reviews and then compare it against their gameplay, to show why they had it wrong.

Lets not forget, most reviews had it as a high positive only a couple really tried to drag it through the mud.

(and they probably played it on the easiest settings and got no real gear)

I don't get the hate for the 3.5 hour thing.

I game about an hour a week right now, for various reasons.

So I'm looking at a solid month of hardcore RPG cutting-edge gaming.

Yeah - me neither.

Diablo 3 was around 10 hours when it was released.

They could have easily made it 10 hours if they wanted but 3.5 hours (probably 5-6 hours if you are younger) sounds about right for this type of game.

Playing it with my little guy and we are about an hour in and loving it. But it made my Xbox hard reset twice in Creeper Woods. So, we are taking a break. Maybe they need to put a patch out?

Any reviewers mention how it performs on Switch? It seems like it should be fine, but every once in a while, Switch gets horrible ports.

Seeing how well Ori and Cuphead perform, I'm pretty confident they'll get this working well too.

I've been playing for about 2.5 hours, and I might be through a 3rd of the levels without running through any twice. I don't see how you can get through this in 3.5 hours unless you follow the directional prompts with zero exploration.

If you have Gamepass, just try it. I'm having quite a bit of fun, it's a great game that's appropriate for kids and people like myself that aren't super into isometric dungeon crawlers.

Fired up the ol' X1X today to check Gamepass, this AND Kingdom Hearts 3? I may not leave the house for a week.

Waiting for the download to finish. The reviews have me worried, but if I can get some friends to join me I'm sure it will be fun.

How is the looting? Is it rewarding? for lack of a better word

Pretty much my thoughts, I’ve sunk about 1.5 hours but ive only completed three missions due to my need to explore and check every nook and cranny. Plus there are difficulty sliders per mission to get better loot so there is a chance for good replay value, especially if you play with friends.

for me its a freebie since gamepass, but its reallynot that bad for a $20 game.

plus its still minecraft at its heart, theres plenty of room for expansions

At least they played through the end and 3 hours long. There are enough out there writing reviews after few hours even AAA titles.

Im around 25 hours into the game. First play-trough doesn't mean anything, you need a certain "equipment level" to be successful in second difficulty class (difficulty rises noticeably). I'm 2/3 way to the second completion on next difficulty. From level 40 I'm having a rough experience, enemies are becoming far stronger than I. Equipment is 100% random and so are your possibilities. The enemies are also random in a crazy way. Died so many times because I run in over-spawned areas with freaking bad enemy constellations and got spiked to death in a second (literally). Don't know if I will play further, game is getting frustrating and I need to farm a lot. I will give spawner farm a try and maybe team up with some people around level 50.

If you guys want to know something about the game ... just ask :) I will try best to answer your questions.

You'll see a lot of the same items multiple times, with different stats and randomised enchantment. For a few levels I was rocking a crossbow that fired a shotgun spread of 3 arrows, had an enchantment to add an extra arrow, and had an artifact that turned all arrows into a bomb. It was an instant "Fuck You" button every 30 seconds.

Any chance they add matchmaking in post launch? Just finished the first mission (The Caravan) on the hardest it would let me go and it was a blast. This game is fun. I wouldn’t mind playing with randoms though, if they add matchmaking

I would expect a whole bunch of stuff is coming down the pipe in the future. Crossplay has already been confirmed post-launch.

I am having a lot of fun with this game, You can make some awesome synergies in this game.
Rolling a super fast hitting low dmg dual dagger that get's boosted by souls and after each dead mob it has a 10% chance to 50% increast atk. and each damn hit has a 30% chance to summon AOE dmg.
This i buff with a death cap mushroom that buffs my atk and movement speed like cray.

the other items are basically a healing totom and a buff armour.
It turns me into a fucking THUNDER MEATGRINDER.

Can't wait to make some crazy builds damn. I am having a ton of fun!
The game might me lacking some raw content but the loot is well designed and the enemy types just fit. Someone has been looking at other ARPG A LOT and the person understands what makes an ARPG fun.

If you like arpgs to test and tinker some builds. Go for it! esp for 30.
If only Wolcen was streamlined like this ooof.

Right now I’m having fun with death cap mushroom and 2H glaive

Ahhhh..Wolcen....so much potential. I still have have it installed in case they really revamp it

also, the 3.5 hours quote must have been some bullshit. I’ve played 2 hours just from running the first mission twice on higher difficulties trying to find everything. I’m not saying it’s content rich, too early for me to tell, but there’s way more than 3.5 hours here

yeah some twats that played it on piss easy and just mashed their faces on the keyboard. (prolly a streamer with the attention span of a goldfish) and then cried how the game given to him was piss easy

My kids bought it for the switch, while it is on gamepass ^^ ... well they wanted it for switch and it cost only ~20€

Btw, I also played it so far. It is not the best game I've ever played (did not expect it) but it is so far a good game overall. Somehow reminds me of Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance. It is just fun to play and currently the only way I can play "Diablo"-like games with my kids ^^

I’m actually impressed with the difficulty if you ramp it up. You can struggle at higher settings, especially if you aren’t rolling with ideal artifacts. I’ve died more times in 3 hours of this than I did with 40 hours in Wolcen

Well, yes, if you keep replaying the same levels over and over again the game time will be longer. That's true for any game.

Its loot based and randomized its not like you are replaying sonic 1 or something

Yeah, I know the genre. I'm just saying the 3.5 hours playtime was clearly talking about playing through the campaign straight one time.

His new review may end on a somewhat more positive note, but he also lists about five examples of bad game design that the first review never mentioned. If anything, I think he makes the game sound even worse. It's a shame this didn't turn out to be a better game.

It might be 3.5 hours per playthrough but there are also new zones marked as "Coming Soon". Hope they are free.

I must be doing something wrong. I played almost 3 hours and I don't think I am even halfway through. I play on hardest setting it will let me each mission, and replay missions for the items I haven't found yet. I guess it can be 3.5 if you want it to be, but I feel there is way more than 3.5 hours worth of gameplay here
