Matt Reeves' The Batman spinoff TV show will reportedly take place before the first solo Robert Pattinson movie and show Gotham's corruption

Matt Reeves' The Batman spinoff TV show focusing on Gotham PD will reportedly take place before Robert Pattinson's first solo movie. As the DC Extended Universe continues to move forward, the need for every property to be connected has vanished in favor of a model that gives creators more freedom. This will allow Matt Reeves to create a brand new Batman universe with Pattinson playing a younger Bruce Wayne, while DC also is bringing Michael Keaton back as Batman in The Flash.

Even before the first installment of Reeves' likely Batman franchise can complete production (which is currently paused due to coronavirus), there is already news of how The Batman will spawn even more content. It was recently reported that Reeves is developing a Gotham PD series for HBO Max. The show is being written by Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter and is confirmed to take place in the same universe as The Batman. But, when it takes place might not be when some fans expected.

Instead of the untitled Gotham PD series picking up after the events of The Batman, a new piece of information from Variety reporter Justin Kroll says otherwise. Kroll tweeted that he's heard the series will be set before Pattinson's solo movie. When the series was announced, the press release noted that the show will "build upon the motion picture’s examination of the anatomy of corruption in Gotham City." According to Kroll, this will be done by showing "how Gotham became corrupt and infested with criminals."

lmao i didn't even know a spinoff reeves batman show was even a thing

I didnt know a spin off show was planned. sounds a but like the Gotham show?
i am just gonna guess it's gonna be a lot more mature than the gotham show

the show is being written by the creator of boardwalk empire, so i am expecting boardwalk empire but with a "gotham skin"

I liked Boardwalk Empire but its a heavy ass show. I felt like if I missed any scene I was lost. But the script was super strong. I would check out a Batman/Gotham Show like that.

this is exactly what has me very interested

the batman universe being treated with this level of writing talent

i thought this whole pattinson batman thing would be a solo thing for reeves but lo and behold it is turning out to be a serious team effort, that's never happened to this universe to this degree

I am hoping that DC/Warner/Whoever has figured out that it takes time and a real effort to make strong content. You can't just shotgun out the IP and watch the money roll in. I am not the biggest fan of the MCU but the reason it worked is because they took their time.

i agree, and i suspect that this is something that has been brewing for years

i hope i could look forward to this show the same way i looked forward to new episodes of breaking bad, game of thrones, the sopranos, etc.

Is sopranos worth a watch if you know the ending?

I'm tired of the executives who keep wanting to spin off things before the movies have even come out.
I really like what Matt Reeves has been doing with the Planet of the Apes movie but that only give him my goodwill for this new batman movie.

One has to earn the trust again and again.

I hope this movie will be good and all the checks are green but they may even make a really good movie that's a financial failure, like blade runner 2049

We just finished Gotham FFS. Do we really need another take on the exact same thing so soon?
gotham is a pretty tacky show all around

i'd more than welcome another take if the right producers have a tightly knit blueprint of exactly what they want to communicate

this could be the first superhero show that reaches the same level of quality as regular highly acclaimed dramas

i think the right people can make something compelling and it's a really bold move to connect it to an upcoming movie that will have multiple sequels

EverydayBeast

thinks Halo Infinite is a new graphical benchmark
Everyone is on board with super hero TV shows, results may very but they should be treated differently than movies.
