The frustrating side of PC gaming and I want to be done with it.

G-Skill should have a compability list on their homepage for each memory available.
I looked at the reviews on Amazon and even there are reported issues of 3600 memory not reaching those speeds. I guess there is nothing perfect that will be 100% working without issues.

So ASUS tech got back with me and they want me to RMA my board. I responded with the info they were seeking.

Hello <name redacted because of cancel culture>,

Thank you for contacting ASUS Product Support. My name is Dahn M., I have reviewed your email and I am sorry to hear that you are having this issue. I appreciate the details that you have sent out and your time and effort for troubleshooting the issue.. Let me further assist you.

I understand how you feel. We wouldn't want this single experience to have you lose your trust in our brand, however we are unable to grant your request of replacement. But if you give us a chance, we can repair it for you.

A thorough review of your case points to a hardware issue. The next step is for you to send in the product for repair. Our records indicate that your unit is still covered by warranty up until 9/24/2022 and our repair facility should be able to address your concern.

Please provide me with the following so that I can facilitate the Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number for you.

• Name:

• Email Address:

• Address:

• City:

• State:

• ZIP Code:

• Country:

• Contact Number:

For your guidance, I am including the RMA procedure:
  • Please have the unit inspected for physical damages. If physical damages are found and it is not reported, the unit will be sent back un- repaired.
  • When your product reaches the repair facility and is examined by a technician, an ASUS representative will contact you directly via email to provide the actual cost of the repair in case there's a physical damage.”
  • Please be aware that the product must be sent in the original factory state and should not be returned with any parts that may have been upgraded or modified. We will not guarantee return of any original parts after repair.”
  • “ASUS will not return the original part, if it is being replaced. This may result in the loss of data, as for example, if your hard drive needs to be replaced. You are responsible for backing up all data BEFORE you send your product to ASUS. ASUS AND ITS AFFILIATES AND CONTRACTORS ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR RETURNING ORIGINAL PARTS IF THEY ARE BEING REPLACED.”

  • “ASUS IS NOT RESPONSIBLE TO YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY FOR LOSS OF DATA. You are responsible for backing up all data BEFORE sending your product to ASUS.”
  • “ASUS IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE INSTALLED OUTSIDE OF ORIGINAL MANUFACTURER SPECIFICATIONS.”
  • “Please note all accessories sent in with your return which are not listed on the RMA checklist, will not be returned to you.”
  • “Please make sure to carefully read and complete the RMA checklist and instructions. We need you to provide a thorough and detailed description of the problems and issues you are experiencing with the unit. If you need additional space, you may attach more sheets as needed.”
  • It’s important that you carefully review the special product handling instructions before processing to ensure if any associated accessories need to be sent with your unit to the facility for adequate testing and repair.” Example: If power related issues, customer needs to send power cord/adapter.

  • Graphics Cards - “Damage to the Product that arises from cryptocurrency mining or related activities will void the warranty, unless the model is especially designed for mining.”
  • We do not recommend having the unit sent in its original box, as there is no guarantee you will receive the same box when the unit is shipped out from the Servic e Facility.
  • The average turnaround time is 7-10 business days which does not include shipping time and certain exceptions such as the weather, availability of parts, out of warranty related issues etc.
  • Please be advised that ASUS will not ship back to a PO Box so the return address has to be a physical address.
  • please be advised to write down "ASUS Repair Center" and RMA number outside the package

I'll be looking forward for your reply so I can process this for you personally.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us again for assistance. Thank you for choosing ASUS Product and Services. Your case number for this interaction is N2007100295.

Regards,
<name redacted>
ASUS Product Support

Why can't they replace it? Stupid. You send it back, they can't replicate the issue, they return it to you 'fixed' and it happens again. Ugh.

3600 (like 3200) is an OC. it's important to remember that even though it's rated for it. if they don't bin properly there might be issues. also you probably only get only a few % in games going from 3200 to 3600

PC gaming does indeed suck!

Last games that I tried:

-Red Dead Redemption 2: blackscreen crash.
-Diagnosis: DX12 wasn't compatible with SLI plus Gsync
-Fix: switch to Vulkan

-Sekiro: wouldn't support 21:9 resolution and had choppy framerate
-Diagnosis: buggy game
-Fix: downloaded fan made patch

-Assassin's Creed Origins: choppy performance even on Medium settings
-Diagnosis: game doesn't support SLI
-Fix: turn off SLI in drivers

-Assassin's Creed Odyssey: couldn't run, CTD
-Diagnosis: incompatible with NVIDIA driver sharpening
-Fix: turn off the *** filter in driver settings

PC gaming is nice with 60+ FPS, ultrawide and Ultra graphics, but when you just want to play de f***ng game, a PS4 is king.

I've been PC Gaming since 2015 with little to no issues. Had both Intel and AMD builds. Which is interesting because my AMD builds as of late have been the most stable. My 2070 Super and Ryzen 3700x have been nothing but great to me.

Sweet spot for me is my 2070 Super for Halo Infinite and a PS5

Sure, same here, but it can't be denied that even in that scenario that you might run into issues with, for example, Nvidia drivers. For me the positives outweigh the negatives but if I was ok with playing on console controller and didn't like strategy games like Total War I'd probably stick with console.

Oh absolutely. I wasn't disagreeing with the OP at all. However, I think a lot of problems that people have with PC Gaming is pure ignorance and an inability to educate themselves when it comes to hardware, basic maintenance, drivers, etc.

I know for a fact NVIDIA Drivers screw up Modern Warfare's performance. That and the fact that MW on PC is a shit port

Had another crash, the Sabrent drives have been eliminated as the cause, as this crash occurred with my Samsung 3.0 drive installed. I was able to get a screenshot. What's funny is that I leave youtube running for an hour and nothing happens, but within 5 minutes the crash happens. I took a screenshot of the disaster for ya'lls amusement.

UPDATE:

So, I decided to give Microcenter a call and see if they would be merciful and allow me to exchange my ROG Strix X570-E.

I asked nicely and they said they were willing.

So I exchanged it for an Asrock X570 Taichi which is possibly the best mobo I have ever seen and bought some GSkill 3600 memory. Will be updating tomorrow

Very kind of them given the age of the hardware. Good luck.
Any idea if your old motherboard was set to use low current idle for the "Power Supply Idle Control" setting? You didn't really specify which PSU you had AFAICT, but some don't play nice with that setting and it would explain the blue screens under light load/idle but faring fine in gaming. Wouldn't explain it suddenly becoming a problem unless some settings had been changed/reset, though. Perhaps as part of a BIOS upgrade?

PC gaming is indeed a royal pain in the ass, and I openly scoff at anyone who says otherwise. However, when it works like it's supposed to -- it's the best version of gaming, in my opinion. It's like flying first class. Everything is "just better".

Anyway, just as a recent rundown of "pain in my fucking ass" PC activity -- Some of my games recently began to run at around %50 FPS (low GPU usage out of nowhere, I've done exhaustive research why this occurs and it's nothing I did) -- most of these games are Cryengine titles. After extensive investigation and research I've come to the conclusion that it's a result of the recent Windows Update. So now a few games I'm interested in playing are stuttery, miserable messes.

Just installed Batman Arkham Aslyum, an ancient game that should run flawlessly on a modern gaming PC -- game is capped at 62FPS, I have the hardware to run it at 250FPS so I go in and start editing .INI files. Eventually I get the game to run at uncapped frames but now there's MASSIVE stuttering -- drops down to 20 FPS sometimes out of nowhere. Seriously, I'd rather play this shit on a PS3. So I do MORE research (lol). Editing more INI files. Somewhat better results. Now I've spent 20 minutes playing the game and 60 minutes troubleshooting.

Welcome to PC gaming!
I can't speak to your GPU usage issues unless it was the 2004 update... but for Arkham:
I believe you mean "Welcome to UE3 games" and PS3/X360 era ports with capped framerates. Did you end up using the Advanced Launcher?

Nope, not using the launcher, never saw it suggested in any of the research I did. Is it supposed to solve those issues? I’ll give it a try.

Suggested on PCGamingWiki for high fps gameplay, and it might be doing more than just setting bSmoothFrameRate.
May want to backup and reset your ini edits before using it.
To be honest the random slowdowns sound like Physx. Has been a long time since I played, though.

I work at a PC all the time, so I don’t really want to spend my time doing my favourite hobby on one as well. Consoles are just easier and more relaxing for gaming, it’s as simple as that. I do have some games on PC, but it’s few and far between.

Thanks to Microcenter, I was able to replace my ROG Strix X570-E with the Asrock X570 Taichi. In addition I also replaced the 4x8GB 3200 Corsair sticks with 2x16GB 3600 GSkill. Unfortunately, the 500GB Sabrent drive does not work. The system will at least POST, but the system was mega unstable with it installed. So I once again had to reinstall on another M2. An old XPG 128 GB. That will be a temporary drive. If I still have issues then it likely means my CPU or GPU is defective. Which would suck.

this is what my system currently looks like.

Aside from OP's genuine issues, some comments are hilarious, to say the least. All it takes is one real problem and everyone starts piling up shit just to feel better about bad (or imaginary) purchases. xD

I have little knowledge about AMD new cpus, but I've read that ram can be an issue. Or maybe it's just bad luck, but yes, as others (and Microcenter did) pointed out, mobo and ram are the main suspects.

Hopefully everything gets solved with your recent changes, OP. It can be infuriating, especially so since everything normally works as intended most of the time (and it's got to a point where the only difference from a console is the OS - and the performance advantage, of course). The good thing is you can deal it in many ways.

A faulty console is just a brick, after warranty expires (and generally pc hardware is more reliable and has way longer warranty).

I feel your pain TC, for a whole week my system deteriorated from suddenly crashing out of apps into to windows after 2 solid years of flawless performance to crashing the whole system on startup with stop code roulette 2 days later. Mine is an intel system (9900k @5.1 on noctua nh-d15, msi meg z390 ace, 2080ti, samsung evo plus ssds, and 2x16 corsair lpx vengeance. I was so sure it was my evga 2080ti until i wasn't so sure any more. Re-seated my cpu cooler, even under-clocked and under volted for safe measure both cpu and gpu even though my temps were never an issue to feel like i were inching to a solution. Swapped out gpu's and even powersupply to no avail. Turns out it was my RAM, out of frustration i bought the exact same kit from best buy as a last ditch effort motivated by the fact that as my system deteriorated the stop codes started painting a picture with the last few (of like 15 unique stop codes) were kmode exceptiions followed exclusively by memory errors. After popping the new sticks in everything is gravy again, haven't had a crash since. I didn't read your whole thread so i don't know if you found a solution but just sending you best of wishes as i know how frustrating sudden pc issues can be when there is so little in the way of diagnosing problems when it comes to hardware.

My second monitor keep showing some artifacts until my pc freeze. After restart it work well for a couple of weeks. Anyway I play mostly on consoles and when my pc start being dumb I keep 2 Mac book pro nearby.

I also don’t know why so many problem. Not only my pc (good one for game dev) but company workstation have same issues, rule of thumb is having real projects and code on Mac only, our server and build machine are also macs) I don’t remember one single crash.
Still funny using macs to make pc games lols

this man was done with pc gaming, just upgraded ram today. best example of pc gaming ive seen yet.
Im not out of the woods yet. Im feeling "good" at the moment, but very very cauitious. Im kind of pissed at the new case since I wanted to put the rad on the top instead of the front. There wasnt quite enough clearance for my 280mm radiator.

I've updated the drivers and have had that issue. Even after replacing the motherboard and the memory.

I wonder if it could be a GPU issue. I have had no issues running or playing games so that doesn't seem likely. One of my bluescree crashes was related to nvlddmkm.sys. Most of the other ones have been caused by Ndu.sys A few others have been caused by various other drivers. Unfortunately, I am looking at Event Viewer trying to get some information, but holy shit why can't there be "This is what caused the bluescreen" I see all this stuff and none of them mention specific files.

But both my ASUS motherboard which has since been returned and my current Asrock motherboard both use the Intel Gigabit I211 network card and that does show up in the Event Viewer.

Intel(R) I211 Gigabit Network Connection
Network link is disconnected.

It seems odd that would be causing the BSOD, but with Ndu.sys being the most common culprit. I am trying to get to the bottom of it.

If this was a widespread issue, I am certain I would have information on it and more people would be reporting it. But pretty much the only major components that remain from my previous system are the CPU and GPU. My OS is running on an older M2 that never had any issues. As well as my 2 hard drives. I am not getting the crazy ridiculous app hangs. It would appear that issue was caused by my old Sabrent 512GB PCI 4.0 NVME express drive.

UPDATE:
For the first time I had my computer straight up freeze. That hasn't happened in this ordeal. It just straight up froze and it happened while surfing the web, reading about Ndu.sys issues.

At this point, I am ready to throw in the towel and just return this Taichi motherboard to Microcenter as well as the 3600 memory. Then maybe get a 10700K and a Z490 motherboard. I will sell my Ryzen 3900X online. I've seen what it is going for and know I can make most of my money back. If it turns out the GPU is defective, at the very least I can RMA that to EVGA and use the onboard Intel for the time being.

Help me out here.

I disabled Ndu.sys and I still got one. Instead of it being caused by Ndu.sys it didn't show a specific driver it just said KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

The errors I am dealing with have been going on for a month or so and have progressively gotten worse. Like today, the system seemed fine and stable and bam! 3 bluescreen back to back.

WHat is amazing is that none of these issues happen while gaming. I did a whole two hour gaming session of Metro Last Light on PC Gamepass. No bluescreens. No nothing. Ran perfect.

But when I start surfing the web is when they happen. No predictable way to make it happen.

However, I am starting to think that the issue may indeed be related to Malwarebytes and Avast conflicting with eachother. I've used both for well over a year and until recently never had an issue.
I suppose it's possible it may have something to do with a recent update of both of them. The fact that the error is due to ndu.sys suggests that it is possible that Avast and Malwarebytes are conflicting when web browsing.

Is there a particular reason you're running both concurrently? Double wrapping or something? :messenger_tears_of_joy:
If instead you're just using MB for occasional scans with no background service they shouldn't be conflicting.
Murder one or both pieces of software. See how it goes.

I didn't read through all your posts over here and assumed that you already did tests with a fresh windows install and only the drivers and the defective software (Chrome in this particular case). It's always the best place to start before test the hardware.

I have done more fresh WIndows installs over the past week than I have done my entire life. I am fucking sick of it, to put it mildly.

JohnnyFootball JohnnyFootball please forgive me if I come off a little blunt... But do you bang with 2 condoms on, and give the girl a plan-b as well, just in case? Is Edward Snowden currently your roommate? I have so many questions.

Whenever I'm looking up cars online, I only rely on windows defender, incognito mode, and the strength of my right arm. In any particular order.

I would happily disable both of them if I could determine something that is likely to trigger the bluescreen and see if disabling one or both would prevent it.
If one had to go, it would be Malwarebytes. Avast seems to be only good at calling Game Trainers a virus!

I really hope you get it sorted out. I dealt with straight up freezing (not a bsod) for months. I tried looking at event viewer and sifting through any logs I could, but it wouldn't give me much info since I would never have a bsod, only freezing. Also, similar to your issue, it only occurred while browsing the web. On an off chance, I moved to google chrome instead of firefox, and it solved my issue 100%. This happened years ago and I've since upgraded hardware and have done a few Windows formats since, but it goes to show... PC's can be fucking weird sometimes.

For what it's worth I am leaning towards Avast and Malwarebytes not playing nice with eachother being the cause. Maybe a recent update in one or both of them have caused this. Both of them have coexisted just fine for well over a year.

Best one is VPN? I'd rather not use a VPN since it will decrease my internet speeds so much. I have 1000MBps up and down on ATT Fiber. Using a VPN drops the speed to well under 100 Mbps.

I get it. You're better off adding another layer to your browser via extensions, though. Noscript is wonderful in that respect once configured. uBlock Origin is excellent as well, though uses more finesse given it is primarily for ads.

Normally I'd be on the "fuck Avast" train but given that other forum post I'm not as quick to suggest Avast as the sole cause as I might have otherwise been.
Realistically you do need get rid of both. Kill 'em. Rule both of them out. Install an ESET trial and see if that cures your issues for a month - Defender is decent these days... but for elevated risk browsing you should have something better.

Reason why you got issue's u install shit tier software that always result in problems. Defender is all you need.

Also did you check if that 3600 memory is supported by your motherboard or did you yolo it once again?
