I am replaying this game again after first experiencing it on PC back in 2016. Back in the day I remember it being not nearly as fun as this. This is a really good game. There is a big world to explore and do sidequests in but also there is a linear story that is not difficult to follow. It's fun hunting down enemies and collecting soundtracks to older FF games. The graphics are astounding throughout. The combat, admittedly it's a bit of a weak spot, but it can still be fun, and it always looks pretty cool. The dungeons are a bit samey, but they do look nice, and I really like the lighting, and I really like how they didn't shy away from doing classic fantasy designs.

If you played it back in the day and were unimpressed, I'd recommend checking it out again. The atmosphere it builds is quite nice. Plus there is now an off-road vehicle option, at least in the release on PS Now, which is a total game changer, meaning you can actually drive around in the open world and use it to go from one hunt to the next. When I played this back on PC years ago, I don't remember this car being an option. With the off-road vehicle, the early game is so much more fun.

The story is quite nice, a modern take on the classic FF tropes. Anyways yeah this game rules. It's on PS Now if you want to check it out.

A launch bad game will be forever bad.
Maybe if Square Enix had delayed it then it could eventually be good.

Nothing will make me play this turd again.

I was super into FFXV after the Royal update, and I've played every game in the series, so it's not one of those "everyone is fond of their first FF," things.

The combat was awful. I really liked the characters and I played it through to completion trying to click with it, but it never did. It even turned me off from playing the FF7 remake (though I hear the combat it that was better). Man, I miss turn based FF.

I loved the game personally. I've been debating replaying it on PS4 instead of the PC version I played.

just being able to free drive around the world is a game changer. yeah im playing on PS4 Pro whereas my first time through was PC. console games are just better optimized so it's definitely a smoother experience.

Combat was one of the worst I've ever experienced. Literally hold X and win. You can use unlimited potions and other items. Summons come out of nowhere to hold your hand and win the fight easily. Camera was all over the place. Framerate issues. I could go on.

The story was an absolute mess too. There were parts where something big happened and the game cuts to a black, skips a few days later, only to ignore what just happened. Nothing was explained properly and it felt extremely rushed and not well connected.

Even though I liked the 4 characters, character development was horribly executed. Important story arcs for characters were intentionally cut from the game only to be sold as separate DLC. All those "episode" DLCs should have been in-game and integrated properly instead of end game stuff.

Ever since Versus XIII was revealed in 2006, this was the one game I was anticipating more than any. It ended up being trash. I was worried FFVII Remake would also suffer from the same stuff...thankfully, the combat in FFVII Remake was amazing and well done. My only concern is that Nomura will fuck up the story somehow (he already kind of has).

It's a high-tech gorgeous mess. It has moments of audiovisual greatness but there isn't anything cohesive or even interesting about the world building/story. Cruising around gorgeous environments in a car listening to great music is the best part.

I think, for how different they are from a design standpoint, XIII and XV suffer from a lot of the same issues, too. Namely the actual lore in both titles is well thought out and interesting but it serves as dressing to a plot that isn't very well executed.
