Movies that are forgotten/no one seems to talk about, that you love.

Hello GAF, so a couple of weeks ago there was this thread:

It intrigued me greatly since i think Hollywood movies have sucked for a long time with only a few handful good movies released in the last 10-15 years, so during this pandemic with so much free time i re-watched some of my childhood favorites and also saw some new ones from the era, and i realized that these movies i enjoy so very much seems to be forgotten or no one's ever brought them up when talking about 80/90's movies, so i decided to share some of these movies and hopefully some of you guys will give them a chance and maybe recommend some new ones me and the rest of the readers may watch.

1- House of Sand and Fog (2003)
MV5BMTIzMjQ5NzM2M15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTYwMzU2NDY3._V1_.jpg

A great drama/tragedy, a fantastic performance by Ben Kingsley, such a fantastic film and yet i don't remember anyone talking about it even back when it was new!

2- Hard Target (1993)
_640x_509558ae35c0e6e9c392d1f9bcf1c51cc623489d515f8a6529e1604fd6bae350.jpg

one of JCVD very best action movies, and directed by John Woo! the action is simply sublime and as a kid i remember when my elder brothers brought in the mid-90's because it was super fun but it was a 1 day rent only since it was in high demand.

3- Sudden Death (1995)
MV5BN2NjYWE5NjMtODlmZC00MjJhLWFkZTktYTJlZTI4YjVkMGNmXkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyNDc2NjEyMw@@._V1_SY1000_CR0,0,683,1000_AL_.jpg

Another JCVD winner before it all went down hill, an anomaly among his action movies because he doesn't use any of his trademark martial arts moves and for once he's on the back foot against the bad guys, a very fun Die Hard clone.

4- True Romance (1993)
9398701466890.jpg

The Tarantino movie people seem to forget about because it was directed by the legendary Tony Scott, great dialogue, Christopher Walken fantastic performance as Vincenzo Coccotti.

5- The Last Boy scout (1991)
51HEZlEQuGL.jpg

Bruce Willis at the height of his action-movie career back when he gave a shit, along with Shane Black's excellent dialogue makes for a very fun movie, better than Die Hard 2 IMO.

6- The Ninth Gate (1999)
51ckAxW3K8L._AC_.jpg

Again it seems no one remember or even knows this movie exists, it's such a unique film with a subject seldom seen in films in general, i could watch from start to finish and enjoy every moment but i know it's not for everyone, certainly this trailer didn't know how to market the film especially with the music and the scenes they show like it's some sort of action movie when it's slow thriller.

Well that's enough from me for now, so GAF share some of your underrated/unknown gems.

I only knew this through RLM, gave it a watch and enjoyed it, it's good movie with an awesome soundtrack, felt like an 80's/90's B-movie which is what I think they were going for.

yeah, that's part of what they were shooting for

Jay does a re:View with the guy who wrote the screenplay, it's pretty neat

Those are some really good picks. I will have to brush up on those Van Damme ones.

Sound Of My Voice

I do love that Sound of My Voice. Everything Brit Marling, Zal Batmanglij, or Mike Cahill touches automatically has my interest, after Another Earth and Sound of My Voice.

No one talks about Where the Wild Things Are. That movie's sick. I love it.

The forgotten fantasy trilogy:

Nice! Never heard of this film and i'm always down for a Val Kilmer movie.

He's great in it. If you like Kilmer, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is damn good too.

Another Paul Walker movie that's pretty good is Running Scared. It's like a dark fairy tale, has some really fucked up scenes.

I've never met someone that has seen Donkey Punch, the movie gets more and more fucked until the finale. Pretty good thriller.

I've been getting into James Bond knockoff Eurospy movies lately and they're really fun.

TV show, but really good

I'm not sure why this isn't more of a cult classic. The movie started slow and has a lot of 90s cheese, but Jobe's transformation into techno-god was excellent. I kept hoping for a sequel or at least a reboot

And the Sega CD game was a mind-trip (but it wasn't much of a game)

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is one of my favorites! I found out about it back in 2013-2014, amazing film and no wonder Shane Black was the writer AND director.

not tag worthy
Zack Snyder's directorial debut.
At that time, Resident Evil 4 was a highly anticipated game and there was hype around it, so when I went into the theatres to watch this remake (back in 2004), I was surprised at how good it was.

Can't wait for its indirect/unofficial successor
I think it’s probably still his best movie overall.

My vote for great movie is event horizon slated upon release. But it’s a damn great sci-go horror.

Watch it if you haven’t, you won’t be disappointed

Already have, back in the late '90s (or around the turn of the Millenium) if I'm not mistaken.

Watch In The Mouth Of Madness, Carpenter' s swan song and a great lovecraftian horror movie.

Hello yeah op Sudden Death is a great movie, i like it better than Die Hard. Same with someone who mentioned Running Scared, great movie

One of the most underated movies is Year of the Dragon, such a gritty good movie. Rourkes best performance.

Lots of good ones on here!

OP, in with you on the 9th gate. Sadly the movie doesn’t close as hard as it should, but the premise and how it develops is great

EverydayBeast

thinks Halo Infinite is a new graphical benchmark
House with the Clock in the Walls, was good to see Jack Black in his element and overall good series of unfortunate events/fall/spooky feels.
