#19 Psycho 3 (1986)

Wasn't sure if I'd seen this one but quickly remembered the intro with a nun leaving her convent and some other scenes. A fairly average slasher. Has it's moments as far as following the series goes but not much else.

Fade to Black (1980)

Same premise as rao.d.luffy rao.d.luffy Said, movie didnt change between then and now.

Maybe not "awesome", but I really liked the movie, it was entertaining, liked the cinematography and various call backs to movies I've seen and many I didnt, but none I didnt recognize. The delusional kid has an interesting arc to his character desending to madness and I would've done the same to his "aunt" . Movie was gorgeous and felt fresh. Would recommend the watch.

Have a good watch tonight boys, signing off for tonight !

Monkey Shines (1988)
Athletic man becomes Quadriplegic after getting truck-kuned, his best friend brings him a monkey to help him around the house because a paid nurse wasn't enough.

I hate the ending. I would've been fine with how a monkey turned aggressive because he was trying to separate from it after becoming attached to eachother and he had to kill it, but chickening out at te end like that pissed me off. end of the movie spoiler ->It was all a dream after his operation, it never happened (after truck-kun) Like I'm not even sure if it matters that spoil it because it's 2 minutes at the end that personally ruin the movie for me. Everything in the movie made sense to a point, why the monkey is smart, how the monkey got to be in possession of the MC, and everything that happens doesn't feel forced, it has a natural flow to it. It gets silly like a grown man, and a woman getting overpowered by a Capuchin monkey. I would've recommended it but the ending like i said ruined it for me.

11. Pumpkinhead

finally got around to watching this oldie. hmmmm. i went in with way higher expectations than i should have. I thought this was a classic, not as high as Halloween or Friday the 13th, but up there. There was just nothing special for me. I actually didnt love the monster design, which is surprising since Stan Winston directed. The best part about the movie is the old hag character. she was wonderful. bonus points for casting Lance Henriksen, of the Alien franchise fame(Bishop). Would love to hear from others why this film is supposed to have developed a cult following....there really was nothing to it imo.

#20 The House with Laughing Windows (1976)

This is a giallo which has a fair bit of good press but it didn't do much for me. It has an interesting set up with a painter commissioned to finish the old work of a fresco in a church. It's a quiet rural area and something is amiss with the history of the fresco. More of a mystery thriller. If you can get into the atmosphere this could be good. I found it a bit average and drawn out with an unsatisfying ending.

#21 Silent Night, Deadly Night 4: Initiation / Bugs (1990)

This is the only film in this series I have seen before, so I already knew it has nothing to do with the previous films. May as well be a stand alone. A wannabe reporter gets mixed up in the occult. It's not a subtle film but I really like all the creepiness and the imagery from the sfx. There's plenty going on and bonus points for Clint Howard.

#22 Open Graves (2009)

Surfers play a medieval supernatural board game that kills. This was okay for what it was but it's tacky and to be more fun should have been a lot tackier. More gore, tna, weird characters, etc. It's just a bit tame and obvious. Nice to see Eliza Dushku but needs more Clint Howard.

The Blob (1958)
Smalltown gets invaded by the alien silly putty

this felt like a modern-ish teen horror movie, it aged incredibly well, except maybe for the fact that the blob is not that scary of a thing ? while it lacked some monster action IMO, the movie was short and never felt long, this might have been helped by the 86 minute runtime. Was talking about it with my coworker and he suggested me the 88 remake which almost never happens - him recommending a remake- so I might try to squeeze it in.

The Omen (1976)

Some evil child gets adopted by the American ambassador.

I did not like this one, I felt like I should be liking it, but it did not hit with me. I felt it was slow, deaths/ "incidents" were fine but really didn't like the movie at all, except for that creepy smile at the end. It felt sluggish and unimportant at part. Either I missed something important to the movie which would've made it better, I just felt nothing but bored sadly. I get that it plays with what's not seen, but

this was my last movie of the evening and maybe 4 was too many, maybe I was getting way too sleepy at that point, but It could not grab my attention even while actively watching it, didn't like it but there were nice shots here and there, sadly the story didn't grab me at all.

Well I forgot to post here yesterday so you'll just have to take my word for it that I watched

16. Child's Play 3

41YKQ6j.jpg

And I had another great time! These films are simple but never get too up their own ass or anything. They just keep the creepy doll being as asshole and the constant cat and mouse games. Plus it's a new setting again that makes for a great way to keep the main characters restricted and unable to do much about Chucky's antics. This is now one of my favorite horror trilogies and I'll probably check out the other ones this month.

And then today I surprisingly enjoyed

17. Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3

DQrdEDl.jpg

Maybe it's just the effect of the other two sequels in this series that I've seen being SO horrible (2 and 3D) but this one actually seemed pretty decent. Was crazy seeing a young Vigo Mortenson in it and although the final girl gets a little annoying and there's my pet peeve of one too many endings it's a decently acted and fun little slasher.

I've been playing catchup.

12. Bride of Re-Animator - This was a really fun watch. Lots of great grossout moments and fun practical effects.

13. Mohawk - Pretty good movie set in the early 1800s. Small cast, good cinematography, and pretty awesome tense moments between the Mohawk group and the Americans. kind of confusing in regards to some of the Mohawk cultural stuff, but it's a pretty nit-picky criticism that the average viewer wouldn't notice or even care about; it has zero impact on how enjoyable the film is.

14. Ring (JP) - I saw the US version of this and thought it was kinda cool. This version is definitely superior, IMO. It feels way more tense and definitely more interesting with the folklore angle.

15. Ju-on (JP) - Was pretty good, but the special effects are a little dated. The size of the house seemed pretty small (maybe a Western thing?) and it was really good at giving me a kind of claustrophobic feeling throughout. Just like Ring, I really liked the folklore angle of it.

16. The Cleansing Hour - I went into this thinking it was going to be kinda crappy, but was pleasantly surprised. It had some cheezy moments, but the acting was pretty good (for what are probably unknown actors?).

17. Maniac Cop - My first exposure to a legit, good Robert Z'Dar movie. IMO, his action movies are kinda fun to watch with other people, but everything I've seen so far has been schlock. It was a pleasant surprise to a super young Bruce Campbell, too.

Tenaciousmo Tenaciousmo put the idea in my head, and now Amazon have thrown down the gauntlet and put all the Resi Evils on Prime. Why not eh? See how far I get.

#23 Resident Evil (2002)

Been ages since I've seen this. Was a little disappointed when it came out but it's pretty good overall. The editing can be mental and OTT at times but it's enjoyable as a no brainer action horror flick. Still amusing to watch the red queen who went to spooky girl elocution school.

resident-evil-dogs.jpg

#24 Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004)

At the time I thought this was the death of any chance of a decent franchise. It's not as bad as I remembered. I must have softened up a bit. It's like a crappier take on Escape from New York with zombies, but probably better than Escape from LA. Lots of smug fighting and that overblown wtf scene with the bike in the church. Jill Valentine is a rubbish character and looks like a hooker. I like a sleazy hooker but she just looks out of place. Nemesis is meh, Umbrella is meh. I don't give a shit about any characters. It's kinda fun for munching popcorn - watchable nonsense.

#25 Evil Dead Trap 3 (1993)

This had nothing to do with the first two films. There's a murder, a suicide, and a missing person. It's framed as a police investigation which works well. More thriller than horror. You could say it's giallo-esque. The mystery is easy to solve but I enjoyed watching it anyway. It's got a nice style with the extreme lighting and I liked the lead characters.

Yeah, this movie is absolutely creepy, I'm happy with my movie choice this year

#9 - The Midnight Hour

8af08e536c98f761672d0df1c6920570.jpg

A teenager, comedy-horror movie from 1985 based on Halloween
The kind of movie I used to watch when I was young, and this movie is very entertaining, a good movie to be in the mood of Halloween or to watch with kids, there's witch, curse, graveyard, teenage party etc

#8 - The Entity
o-enigma-do-mal_t10296_2.jpg

One of the most scariest movies I've ever seen, Barbara Hershey the main actress was awesome, the sound effects is creepy, the special effects is good enough to hold even now, years after launch, and the plot too.
A masterpiece of paranormal related movies.

Solid stuff. Scared shit out of me as a kid and still disturbing today. Hershey is amazing.

I offer you these offerings of feral untamed youth run amok from the island of Britannia.

Eden Lake

One of the most underrated British films of last 10 years.

Horror masterpiece. Brutal. Grim. Nasty.

You'll want a strong gin or brandy with this one. And deep breaths at the end. Try not to have anything you can break close to hand.

Over forgotten masterpiece that deserves higher praise then it gets:

That music. That behemoth! That ending! It's almost like a prequel to Half Life.

#26 Resident Evil: Extinction (2007)

Mad Max meets Day of the Dead with a light Birdemic. That might have been better than the last one. It felt like they were trying, even though the plot doesn't really make much sense of the last ending. It really feels like the middle of a story now, more episodic. Predictable stuff, plot holes, but kind of alright if a bit whatever. A dumb zombie film with a budget. The creepiest bit is that all Umbrella computers seem to be represented by a different little girl.

18. Dracula: Prince of Darkness

KNzZrCF.jpg

Went back to Hammer today and this was quite different. It's a tale of two halves as there's quite a long time with no Dracula but I don't HATE it because the buildup and reveal of Dracula feels significant as a result. Christopher Lee is once again imposing in a more animalistic and non-speaking performance. He always does such good work with just his eyes and menacing stances. The monastery provides a nice break from the usual castle setting and the climax builds nicely even if it concludes a bit abruptly.

#27 Evolution (2016)

An ill boy lives in a village with his mother and some other boys with their mothers and it's weird. Something wrong is happening. Beautifully shot, sparse dialogue, extremely slow, and creepy. Everyone feels unnatural and it's icky in places. There's hardly any story, you have to piece it together yourself, and it feels like a short film spun out of control. If you don't fall asleep it's intriguing and has a strong atmosphere. It was okay, something was missing.

Watched Possessor (uncut) last night, Brand Cronenberg's sophomore film. Yeah, David's son. Really solid film, takes a near-future sci-fi movie premise that will inevitably be compared to Black Mirror and gives it a really nice grisly, bloody, artsy edge. Great performances throughout.

At the moment it's only available in the usual illicit places, so it has a consideration watermark through the whole thing in the subtitle spot. If that's against your better moral judgement, you can wait, or you can just watch it now and buy it later. Not condoning or condemning anything, but it's well worth a watch whenever you get round to it.

#39.5 - not counting it as a horror movie, but its adjacent:
hubie-halloween-trailer-new.jpg

Hubbie Halloween (2020)
Latest Sandler joint on netflix, he plays a simple minded individual whos very nice.

This movie was troubling to me. I'm not sure I was suppose to laugh but most of my laughs were due to awkwardness more than the jokes themselves. I laughed way more than I should have while sober. The terrible voice he makes is getting old 2 minutes in, Hated the preachy stuff at the end, other than that, if you know what to expect and have mind altering substances, I suggest you take a gander, it is less worse than what I expected.

40. ⭐
The-Mortuary-Collection.png

The Mortuary Collection (2019)
Anthology of stories narrated by a mortician to it's possible replacement.

Lovely ensemble of stories that are thoroughly enjoyable, they all felt fresh, maybe it's because of the prominent use of colours. The ambience of it all is just right, there's no cheap jump scares, and I feel like it rely more on phantasmagoria and slow building tension, it never gets too overwhelming or scary sadly, but makes for an incredibly fun watch.

41. Beautifully mediocre.
Anamorph_-_I_ritratti_del_serial_killer.jpg

Anamorph (2007)
The killer makes anamorphic art with it's victims, Willem Dafoe is way too into it, and I was too.

I really liked the cinematography and plot, though the use of anamorphic art is somewhat niche, but it felt like they didn't developed anything else. They are right as thinking anamorphic art will get me to stay and watch something, but I might still not think it's great if you only use it because of novelty. - As Anamorphic pieces go, The house that jack built is a WAY better watch, while the showpieces are great, the rest of the movie was me wishing I was re-watching The house that jack built instead.

42. ⭐
16-9

Ready Or Not (2019)
Rich Family have a weird way of celebratin new marriages in the family.

thanks @Elcid For bringing it to my attention, I had a blast watching it. Basically Hide and seek with weapons and people who might not always want to use said weapons. It's campy fun, it looks really good, has a bunch of good kills, And for a nice bonus, a kid gets knocked straight out by a really cute girl. It's a horror comedy that is worth your time, it's fast paced, and theres a big pop off finish that might not be the most satisfying but fits the movie really well.

Doctor Sleep is excellent, make sure you see the extended director's cut, don't listen to the poster above me.
I did not say it was not good, but I do think it doesn't bring anything new that the shining didn't do better in my opinion

I Am a Hero (Japanese) (netflix i think)
A manga artist going nowhere gets to prove himself when people start turning.
Has a touch of Warm Bodies and maybe 28 Days Later. A straightforward but entertaining film

Alive (Korean) (netflix)
A young Korean man detaches himself away from his devices long enough to learn about a zombie outbreak. Trapped in an apartment building he realizes there's a survivor in the adjacent building. Watched it recently and nothing really lingers. There was a decent sense of isolation and the need to connect and cooperate with the only other (seemingly) remaining survivor.
There wasn't anything particularly scary.

Finally I managed to watch more than 1 movie a day and I'll try to reach 31 this year

#10 - Cat People
a-marca-da-pantera_t4227_3.jpg

A young woman's sexual awakening brings horror when she discovers her urges transform her into a monstrous black leopard.

I'm totally into 80s this year, and maybe it'll affect my reviews lol, but I like this one with Nastassja Kinski very young, never watched the first one
It's more a love story with horror background, but it's good

#11 - Morto não fala - The Nightshifter
morto-n-uo-fala-final-portugues-1_g2z4d7m.jpg

Stenio, the nightshifter of a morgue, has the ability to communicate with the cadavers that are brought to him every night.

Guys, this is an awesome movie from my country (Brazil), and I think you can watch on Shudder with the name The Nightshifter, totally worths
I think it's creep because it's more related to my country, with things I'm used to, but try this one, it's good, the only bad thing is the CGs, but the acting, the plot and the idea in general is very well executed

#12 - Bad Taste
9afcc62d89e5664a765b2f2e14b4c75d.jpg

I don't think I need to explain this, a classic 80s, from Peter Jackon, and totally trash
The whole plot is confused, could be better executed, but It's funny

# 13 - The New York Ripper ( Lo Squartatore di New York )
83288eb9ec0f7d929b500090dd14de1e.jpg

I didn't used to like giallo, but now I like, and this is from Lucio Fulci, a great movie, with all stuff expected from a giallo movie, lots of deaths, a weird killer, a good plot
Not the best from Fulci, but's good

I did not say it was not good, but I do think it doesn't bring anything new that the shining didn't do better in my opinion

I don't even know what this means. virtually everything it does is new.

it introduces the concept of steam, the True Knot, and provides much more of an explanation as to what the shining ability is

it does what it's mean to do very well: it is a sequel to Stanley Kubrick's The Shining, which while based on Stephen King's The Shining, it departs from it significantly. In that sense, it isn't really a film based on the book Doctor Sleep as much as it is a sequel to Kubrick's work while relying on Stephen King's source material.

Basically Doctor Sleep the novel is the sequel to The Shining Novel. Kubrick's The Shining is a different story than Stephen King's The Shining, and Doctor sleep the film is a sequel to Kubrick's unique telling of Stephen King's The Shining.

but yeah, I really don't understand how one could say it doesn't bring anything new. Doctor Sleep is completely packed with entirely new subject matter.

Great film

Would never watch again

Wonder how the remake is

Guilty admission. I quite liked the remake in a disposable sort of way.

I guess if you really liked the original, you might feel the same way I feel about the remake of Inside (PURE HATRED. Avoid at all costs).

But although the first half of the original I think is great, it didn't stick the landing for me. Truth be told I guess that I emotionally checked out at some point, so the ending really didn't shock or move me. I just remember a line of dialogue that made me roll my eyes!

But hey, I liked the ending of Haute Tension!
