Darksiders Genesis in 4th place huh?

I'm a big Darksiders fan. Still need to try this out.

I have it listed as 7th place. I really enjoyed it. Great twin stick shooter with a solid story.

I would guess Immortals Fenyx Rising would jump in to the list but I've yet to play it =)

You know, out of the games I've played Death Stranding was the one that captivated me the most.

1) Demon's Souls -- the first PS5 game I played delivered the "Wow" factor in a big way. Easily the best graphics I have ever seen in a video game. It also helps that I never played the original so I got to enjoy the game and its bosses from a fresh view. While Demon's Souls is fundamentally the weakest in the Souls series in terms of gameplay/quality of life, I still got lost in the world and loved hating every death.

2) FF7 Remake -- this is just the purest form of "video game": It just oozes "fun" from every angle. The main story was as great as I remember and the side quests were silly but still engaging enough to complete. While I'm annoyed the Remake was split into two parts, in retrospect Part 1 was worth the full price and I'm excited for Part 2.

3) Last of Us Part II -- while this game was good enough to be #3 on my list, it was overall a disappointment vs. TLOU1 which was one of my all-time favourite games. The lack of multiplayer is criminal for a multi-hundred-million dollar Naughty Dog AAAA game that had been in development for 4 years. This game is a quintessential example of hubris. Druckmann did a lot of damage to the series by allowing the game to take itself WAY too seriously to the point of sucking enjoyment out of the experience. I would vote this my disappointment of the year, which is saying a lot considering Cyberpunk 2077 just came out.

4) Hades -- very fun game with super tight gameplay. While the main story was really interesting and well-written, the side stories unfortunately became bugged to all hell for me and I couldn't complete some key arcs. Upon researching the problem, it seems as though I beat Hades too many times too early, and it completely borked other story loops which couldn't catch up. I tried speedrunning deaths to fix the problem and all it did was make me hate the game so I had to stop.

5) Astro's Playroom -- easily my surprise of the year. I can't believe how good this game is. Such a welcome introduction to the PS5 and its DualSense controller. I truly hope this becomes a trend for all future console releases. The nostalgia trip discovering PS items of prior generations put a huge smile on my face.

6) Cyberpunk 2077 -- I am playing this on PS5 so I consider myself one of the lucky ones. The game crashes constantly and I've encountered 3 game breaking bugs that required a reload and dozens of other inexcusable bugs. The AI is probably the worst I have ever seen in a purported AAA game and CDPR should be ashamed of themselves for putting out a game in this form. With all that aside, however, the core game is fun. Gunplay is good (not great), the overarching story is interesting, and writing/dialogue is strong. This was a GOTY contender but CDPR chose short-term profits over long-term legacy. Probably the wrong decision but only time will tell.

7) Fall Guys -- super fun game that kept me busy for a couple weeks. Free with PS+. It is what it is.

8) Genshin Impact -- deserves recognition as a successful implementation of F2P in a AAA game. Fun game, but I can't help but be concerned by how blatant a ripoff of BotW this game is. I don't understand how Nintendo hasn't sued MiHoYo yet.

9) Rogue Company -- great squad shooter that ultimately lost its momentum. Hi-Rez completely dropped the ball on the e-sports opportunity, instead dumping all of its resources into sponsored Twitch influencer streams. At the end of the day, it's a fitting metaphor for the game. Style over substance.

10) Among Us -- I'm not sure if this counts as 2020 but I think that's how 98% of the playerbase would count it, haha. Probably the best way to characterize it is "the best $5 game of all time".

I only put in 4 games as to what I've played through all the way this year.

1. Demon's Souls
2. Journey to the Savage Planet
3. FF7 Remake
4. Doom Eternal

Bunch of stuff I've started but haven't finished yet so I'm not including them.
Outer Worlds and Cyberpunk are the big ones

Getting Ghost of Tsushima for Christmas

My vote:
  1. Hadès
  2. 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim
  3. Twin Mirror
  4. Tell Me Why
  5. Catherine Full Body
  6. Death Come True
  7. The Complex

(The Complex wasn't available)

Six narratives games (two visual novels, two FMV games, two narratives games) and Hades, the best rogue-like ever released.

1. Doom Eternal
2. Half Life: Alyx
3. The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners
4. Cyberpunk 2077
5. Darksiders Genesis
6. Ori and the Will of Wisps
7. Star Wars: Squadrons
8. Hades
9. The Wonderful 101: Resmastered

Demon's Souls
I have that as no 1, tsushima #2, HL as #3.

Yakuza I've selected a few times Spoiler......... (6 has Takeshi kitano).

Fall guys, command & conquer & Morales are there as well. Maybe include a summary page incase people wanna screenshot & post.

Cyberpunk I had preloaded on PC. It made my 3080 look like a b... GOTY if delayed to fix AMD issues & the many bugs. Witcher 3 still looks good on my PC, so I have faith in CDPRs products, eventually.

Its hard for me to vote because trying to finish Valhalla is keeping me from starting CP2017. But As far as it goes, I played all that I will play this year.

So if I haven't played three games from the list (my year has been a lot of backlog and VR gaming) I can't vote? :(

1. Final Fantasy VII Remake - Best FF game since FF10 and just one of the most fun expierences I have ever had in gaming in general. I like the ending. Bite me.
2. Demons Souls - My first Souls game. I understand the hype now. Great gameplay mixed with deep world building, challenge and this amazing feeling of reward when you make it.
3. Ghost of Tsushima - Most relaxing game I have ever played. To the point that I was annoyed that I cant turn of enemies in a free roam mode. The atmosphere in this world is breathtaking.

I know I have great taste, thank you :)

Played a bunch of other games like The Last Of Us Part II, Spiderman MM, Mafia DE, Hades, Astros playroom and Dreams but they are hard to bring into any order. I had fun with all of them, but they didnt leave such a lasting impression (actually Astros playroom did for being nostalgic and cute to the bone, but somewhat basic gameplay). So they are all 4. place in my mind :D

Edit: FECK. I forgot Ori, thought this was last year haha. Dang. I already voted though. Oh well. That would be the 4. place then.

We ain't outta here in ten minutes, we won't need no rocket to fly through space
Finally decided on my ten. I think this is as close as I can rank them.

1. Ori & the Will of the Wisps
Fires on every single cylinder. Great platforming action, absolutely stunning visuals, great sound and music, great world and characters. I went in with high expectations and it still exceeded them. Could not put it down. Oh, and it was on Game Pass too, what a bonus. Underappreciated game of the year, got snubbed to hell in other awards.
2. Doom Eternal
Tight, tight tight tight. Fun, challenging, takes what made 2016 so good and expands on basically every part of it. Slightly weird difficulty curve at first, but once I got the knack of it, I couldn't stop playing until it was done.
3. Cyberpunk
A beautiful disaster. Buggy, unfinished, and overall not the gaming revolution some were expecting - but when it hits, it really hits. The world and character building is absolutely top-notch, the gunplay was surprisingly tight, and damn does everything look super crunchy. That being said, I have a beefy PC and all my bugs were small visual ones generally, this game should not be anywhere near some people's top ten lists and frankly it shouldn't have even been released. But it was, and I dumped 50 hours into it without blinking.
4. Demon's Souls
What remakes should aspire to be, frankly Bluepoint's work has transformed and elevated this game beyond the original to the point where it's now one of my favourite Souls games. Played it twice back-to-back, and I haven't done that in a long time. Gorgeous, amazing sound, tight controls, though ultimately loses out on higher spots for still being a one-to-one remake.
5. Hades
Tight as hell, nice looking, and a surprisingly interesting theme upon which they built a roguelike. I had no idea about this going in other than Supergiant made it, and I really like mythology settings, so this hit pretty well. Only disappointment to me was that after I beat the game I didn't especially feel like doing it again like I did with other modern roguelikes.
6. Ghost of Tsushima
Really happy this turned out well, I don't think it does anything in particular exceptionally, it's just a really solid samurai open world. I loved totally completing the first two islands, but I burned myself out and didn't fully complete the third. Really great narrative and fun to godmode through once you get a few skillups.
7. Immortals: Fenyx Rising
Biggest surprise of the year. I had no idea I needed a BOTW clone, but boy did I. This really scratched several itches for me, once I got into a session I couldn't stop playing. Actually really enjoyed the setting and mythology ties despite some of the script and characters (and animations) being kinda wonky. Look beyond the fact that it looks like a mobile game, this is a great timesink.
8. Crash Bandicoot 4
One of my favourite series ever, and I'm really glad they did Crash justice. However, I still feel like this should have been shorter overall, cheaper, and with way less post-game fluff for 100% completion. Crash games are fun to 100%, this one I didn't even entertain the idea with some of the obscene and often dull shit you have to do, which is the reason it's lower on this list and that I'll probably never replay it. A shame.
9. Tony Hawk 1 & 2
Not much to say - it's THPS and they didn't fuck it up. I 100%'d both games in one sitting each and then deleted it until I feel the urge to do it again. It's a fantastic remake, and we need THPS3 DLC pronto.
10. Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Great, fun little half-game in between the first and second full ones. I think think calling it DLC is harsh, but I would feel pretty burned if I bought this thing digitally. Took me 16 hours for a casual playthrough, 100% mop-up and a second campaign speedrun for the platinum. Not even half the time I spent in the original. But, it does everything just as well.

Honorable mentions: Astro, REmake 3, Sackboy, Bugsnax (no kidding)
Honorable mentions for graphics and animation: TLOU2
Did not play (yet): Animal Crossing, HL Alyx, Spelunky 2, Noita, plenty of others (edit: lmao FF7R, forgot that was this year)

Wow, this new set-up with the form is great. So much easier. Great job!

My #1 is Ori. It has everything a platformer needs (great controls, awesome level design) and so much more (beautiful soundtrack, emotions...). I would recommend it to anyone that even remotely enjoys videogames.

Are people really doing that?

Embarrassing.

Yep, it is sad. When you have the whole dataset in front of you it's pretty easy to see them - they stand out like big massive red flags in the snow lol. Not going to disclose as of yet but can do when votes are in. At the end fo the day they spend probably an hour spamming the votes which take abour 2 seconds to descope. So I guess if that's how people spend their lives......

2. Crash 4
3. Final Fantasy 7 Remake

It was a good and varied year for me. But nothing came even close to TLOU 2. Not even with the great nostalgia games releasing last year..

Voted. My top 5 are:
1. The Last of Us Part II - Most realistic characters in any game this year. Playing this game felt almost like I was binge watching a really good TV show.
2. Ghost of Tsushima - Beautiful scenery and great stealth gameplay. It was really addicting trying to collect all of the vanity items, especially the swords.
3. Cyberpunk 2077 - I enjoyed hanging out in this world. I've always been a huge fan of bladerunner/cyberpunk so this game was a dream come true for me. It didn't deliver quite like I hoped it would but I still enjoyed it a lot. (I played on PS5 and didn't have too many problems)
4. Final Fantasy 7 Remake - I'm not a huge fan of the original but this game surprised me. I thought the combat was the perfect difficulty. Challenging but not too difficult. I enjoyed the music as well.
5. Spider-Man: Miles Morales - I really enjoyed the characters in this game and the music. Miles's new stealth mechanics such as his invisibility were a nice addition compared to Peter's abilities. The game also looks fantastic on PS5. Seeing all of the snow and frost on the cars in such great detail really makes the world feel alive.
