Who did it used to be? Did the position exist before?

I can only hope this means he's replaced Bonnie Ross, wishful thinking I know. I like Staten, I'm not sure if he's done anything of note since Halo really, nothing outstanding anyway, but I'm cautiously optimistic.

Sounds promising, but it's too late for him to change Infinite.

I read Joe Biden lol

Isn't he a little late boarding that train this far in development? Is this game releasing this year?

Considering it's a being pushed as platform that will be built on I think this huge. Maybe simply because he might trash that idea and start with something new since he doesn't have any emotional attachment to it.

Does Bonnie Ross even contribute anything creatively for Halo? Isn't she just an executive?

IIRC she was head of Xbox Studios before Matt Booty came

Kinda mixed on this. Wasn't his last game flop and i wish they could bring someone new but established with good games. But he is halo veteran so idk.

If that's true, then she already had a demotion, interesting. I just don't want her near anything Halo, she's a diversity hire if I've ever seen one, I fail to see anything decent that she has contributed to the series and she has almost zero energy and charisma in her talks. This is a macho franchise with almost all of the people that made it and played it being of the masculine variety, what are they thinking putting a girly girl in charge? The right woman would be great, I think of how great a job a woman did in directing Point Break (Kathryn Bigelow, James Cameron's ex interestingly), so it's doable, but with Bonnie Ross it's just obviously for ticking boxes.

She is the reason why 343i got created, so she's not a diversity hire.

They were going have to Gearbox continue Halo (would've been better IMO) but instead, she pitched the idea of creating a studio just for halo.

A small description of who this guy is would have been appreciated.

Well Joseph Staten former Bungie writer screams quite a catch for 343. Hope he gets to flex on the many many dlc or expansions Halo "infinite" will see

Oh, recore was horrible but state of decay 2 is good IMO.
As with most things in game development, people tend to get too much credit for the good and too much blame for the bad.

I don't really see how one person taking over a troubled production can completely right the ship, short of major, major delays. A year isn't a major delay.

Seriously? Wow. Well, I guess just about anyone is better.
He is the guy who wrote the story for Bungie Halo games and also the cinematic director. He has been the creative director for 343i since August last year.
He left Bungie because his version of Destiny was scrapped and instead we got a mess in 2014.

OK so she created that studio, fair enough, it's been a terrible studio though (sounds like you may agree). Not sure Gearbox would've been much better, their work on Halo PC was decent, but not great and they have had more misses than hits the last decade. I would like a third option, maybe they could've had Halo vets create a new studio, sure they hired some, but that's not the same. She seems like the sort that usually rises to the top for all the wrong reasons, same as Kathleen Kennedy. Both diversity hires.

Im excited if he still remains for the next halos but for infinite its too late to change anything drasticly now, if he feels like changing
It's hard to say. Sometimes what separates a good game from a great game can be minor tweaks to the rules or mechanics. Imagine Dark Souls with checkpoints every three minutes or the difference that Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence made, by just giving you control over the camera. Big things can happen if you bring the pieces together in the right way. I'd say he has enough time onboard to make meaningful changes. Not to mention, Halo games have a history of coming together in the final hour.

When that happened my big take-away was "maybe studios are right and story doesn't matter." Destiny still did crazy well with a super-broken narrative after they gutted everything Joseph did.

Writers are generally on the lowest rung of the studio ladder and once they get any experience they're usually fired in favor of some cheap junior blogger just happy to have a job. Good on Joseph for bucking the paradigm.

He was one the figureheads of Halo alongside Marty O Donnell and Marcus Lehto. They all left.

Well he's already been at 343 since August last year, he's almost certainly introduced changes to the game. He was brought to get this up to high standard, and I trust he will do just that. On a side note what is head of creative? Never heard that term before.

They're going to release an updated screenshot of Craig in full 4K with high res textures and the Craig phenomenon will start up again.

Watch this space...

Best of luck to Joe Staten.

Great news for Halo, whether he has enough time to repair the franchise after the disaster Infinite showing is another thing. If 343 doesn't close after the release, I hope that he gets more creative control and fire some staff out of a cannon. My advice is to

Bungie, with Staten on board, built Halo 2 from scratch in 9 months. 343 has 10 until Infinite launches, and it would seem Daddy-Spencer has written a blank cheque, because they've got God-only-knows how many merc companies on hand to throw un-Godly amounts of man hours at this thing. I'm pessimistic as fuck about 343i, but if there is one person on this Earth I trust to deliver on Halo, its Joe Staten.
