Destiny 2 players worried about anticipated crossplay (both PC and console)

Senior community manager dmg04 writes, "This Season, we’re making some targeted changes to weapon archetypes that need some love as well as beginning some preparations for crossplay."

The major change involves increasing recoil on certain weapon types solely for mouse-and-keyboard players
, bringing the level of recoil closer to that of the same weapons when used on controller.

While this might seem a relatively small change, the mention that the move is being made with crossplay in mind has led community members to wonder if it means that Destiny 2 PvP will matchmake a mixed pool of PC and console players by default, or even as the only option.

It plays into longstanding problems for players across platforms, with mouse-and-keyboard play seen as offering an innate advantage, particularly in shooters (although Destiny 2's heavy aim-assist for controller players complicates that theory a little in this case). Cheating is also generally more prevalent on PC versions of games. Many current crossplay games offer controller-using players the choice to play only with other controller players, but Bungie hasn't specified Destiny 2's approach as yet. With crossplay due later this year but details still somewhat hazy, players are speculating what approach Bungie will take - and even trying to alter the developer's course. At time of writing, one of the most popular posts on the popular DestinyTheGame subreddit is titled 'Do NOT mix the console and PC PvP player pool (by default)'.

"These are exactly my thoughts as well," replies 1Soulbrotha, "I was really nervous to read about the recoil changes for PC. If they go the route of everyone being lumped into the same queues for PVP then this coming recoil change is just a lazy way to 'balance' things."

While many console players are concerned about being put at a disadvantage, PC players are also concerned about Bungie's balances impacting the game they know. In a separate thread, SilverCervy writes, "It just creates a situation where the game has to be dumbed down for some to make things more fair for others. PC players should not have to deal with gameplay nerfs for the sake of console players."

They should be worried if Warzone on the Xbox is anything to go by.

Xbox forces crossplay, and Keyboard/Mouse players spank controller players in most scenarios. That’s before we even factor in the cheaters.

Agree with above comment, there should be a console-only middle ground.

What if i told you that destiny PVP’s was shit and never fun. That the actual game was PVE
And some shitbag tried to cram into PVP because i guess we need to?
On D1 Y1 it was all fun for me until people started getting the Gjallarhorn and I didn't have one... Then I got one and the fun came back... Then they nerfed it.... Then there was The Truth!

Damn! I used to love Destiny so much!

Well, I don't think console players have aim assist assigned to each gun in COD.

I am glad that it has PVP. It is good to jump into an online match every now and then! Why do you want to remove the option for those who like it?
Because balance and design decisions spill over into PVE. And quests that are otherwise PVE often require a PVP step. So it's not a harmless mode I can just ignore. It's something that by just existing manages to make the rest of the game worse.

I love Destiny and I think it gets unfairly criticised. Gameplay is first class.

That said, the game really does feel like its running on fumes at the moment.

Outriders on paper right every destiny wrong (to my taste) ....let's see if it works in practice though.

This. The amount of quests I've abandoned after hours of grind because it then wants me to kill 50 warlocks in the crucible or get 20 hand canon kills against other guardians. Give me a PVE choice for each step, either kill 50 guardians or 100 knights kind of thing.

Quit playing it on Steam due to the fucking cheaters!

They need a console only option ALL cross play games need this option.

This. Destiny doesn't even have an anti cheat. I have no desire to play pvp with PC players, especially with new trials gear coming next season.

This is the dumbest thing ever. I have no interest whatsoever in cross-play for this game.

What's the point? You won't be able to get into parties to use voice chat which is critical for endgame content. PvP versus xbox users isn't meaningfully different, and then dumping you in lobbies with PC users on KB&M that have a metric crapload of inherent advantages (e.g. input precision, FOV, framerate, resolution etc etc) would just make the crucible feel even more busted than it does now.

Honestly, I'm starting to think Bungie has no idea what to do with this game.

Crucible is my favorite part of Destiny. I don't see how playing with PC players is going to do anything but diminish the experience. They either have a control advantage or a cheating advantage. I'll see how it goes though. Can't be that much worse than the addition of stasis to the sandbox, which I've still been too lazy to unlock.

Crossplay is the biggest fucking con. The devs and publishers make it seem like it's this big consumer friendly move but really it just allows them to consolidate servers and reduce operational costs. One reason why people pay for PS+ or XBLG is to ensure a level playing field across a fast and optinized network without the rampant cheating of the PC platform.

Cross play had better be optional. Even with the recoil adjustments for mouse input, the movement advantage alone would make it unfair to play against unless consoles get m and k support.

They need to remove stasis from PvP. It went from a mildly entertaining distraction to being absolutely infuriating.

Thinks mods influence posters politics. Promoted to QAnon Editor.
I want crossplay for PvE, but having MKB player stomp over console people in PvP sounds like a bad idea.
