Communities Forum Reboot

There's no buy/sell/trade thread now?

Jeeezus. That's the one thing that sucks about being banned from RE.

I'm trying it out on Reddit and there are scammers left and right.

r/gamesale has worked for me recently since there is no thread here. Just make sure they have a decent history and not a new account and no problems. Not the best or as good as this place was but way better than ebay with their insane fees.

I actually just used it the other day. First 2 people tried to scam me, and finally a third came through with a good ass deal. Bought Jedi Fallen Order Deluxe from them for $27. So yeah you really have to be careful there but I think I'll use it from now on.

Edit: As far as the scammers go, the first tried to link me to a very similar name as theirs which had a lot of positive feedback and a long history. Meanwhile the actual name I was dealing with was new and had no feedback. Then the next low life had a positive history...in the past. However they had just recently been ripping people off. Luckily I googled their email address before sending any money and saw that a bunch of people had just been scammed by that same address. I called him out in his thread and he deleted it lol. Piece of shit.

Yeah I'd be down for another Buy & Sell thread. Always enjoyed browsing it. Also looking to sell my Switch.

what do you need to do to enable the tread posting in game idscussion forum?
Member status, which iirc means you've been on GAF for 1 month (or more) and have 50 posts (or more).

In the meanwhile, you could use this thread if there's a specific topic you are searching for and/or want to post:

Is there any demand to keep the Vita/PSP threads up?

I love discussing those consoles in particular but I don't know if people care enough to revive it. :(

Make a new topic as a retrospective and build a community around it. Both are good systems and have a strong dedicated fanbase. be the change you want to see and take control. Make that 2020 Portable Sony console OT - What is dead my never die.

I do want to do one but honestly I wouldn't be able to do a decent thread about it quite as good as I could do.

If I have the time between Studying, Shopping and looking for work, I will think of something to compile.

Would it be possible to resurrect my Thread about how games become rare and stuff?

I want to try and expand on it more as I have some ideas on the Market now.

Edit: Here is what I want to bring back but I don't have Thread Privileges for it?

The Thread in Question

Is it just me or is there no NFL thread here? If I were to make one (when i get permissions) would I be in my rights to put "|OT|" in the title?

Hello. So, I have been posting music I listen to on Meta GAF for a while because I saw similar link posting. But I do feel like it derails Meta GAF, and with concerns of media that belongs elsewhere making Meta GAF irrelevant. So, along the lines of this
I created this
Its also better to have a dedicated thread, so people with similar interests can interact.

If you have any music you created that's not for sale (meaning sales which violate thread rules), you can also lost it to the musicians thread. I need to go in there and clean out the cobwebs this week.

How come everything I engage in on this forum it needs "Approval from mods"??? Everything I've clicked, I cant reply or post without "mod Approval" I'm new to here but this is getting old really fast

If you follow forum ToS and have at least 100 posts, mods have ground to decide if you're a member. Everyone here has to go through this probationary stage to get to member status. Just keep posting constructively and be positive. Neo Members are unable to vote in polls, create threads, and cannot post in politics. When you sign-up, you should have a notification explaining what a Neo Member can and cannot do.

I had an idea for a Community thread, but just wanted to gauge interest first. I've been on GAF a couple of weeks now, and I've noticed we don't really have a place for general gaming chatter. I don't think some things warrant a whole thread. For example I often reminisce about old games, watch some video and I love to post a couple of things about it. I just don't think a thread is worth it for a paragraph or two.

I am still trying to think of the name, and if it is something people are interested in, I'm open to suggestions. I thought maybe 'Prescott's Hangout' or 'Gaming Cafe' I'm terrible with names. :messenger_smiling_with_eyes:

I know there is communities for Xbox and PlayStation for example, but there isn't really anything that covers literally everything you can think of gaming wise.

What the community thread would be about/contain:

- Random chatter about what you've been playing.
- Did you watch a good video lately that doesn't warrant a thread? Do you want to share it? (Not self-promotion though)
- Want to talk about an old game you have been thinking about?
- A place for all platforms to talk games. PC, Consoles, Retro. It doesn't matter. No drama or platform warring. Just a chill hangout.
- Anything else. Even if you want to just post a GIF and be like 'I miss this game'. Maybe it'll spawn a discussion.

I thought maybe it's too broad to be a community thread, which is why I asked first. It may be a bad idea, it's just something I thought of. Maybe this is what the Discord is for. I know personally I prefer to use the forum due to social anxiety.

Anyways, any thoughts would be welcome. Feel free to tell me if it's a bad idea.

This is actually a pretty good idea.. (And, @Sidney Prescott... you were right. You're awesome, but those recommended names are not, LOL.)

I don't do discords; not out of social anxiety or anything like that, I just think that NeoGAF is as much social media as I can tolerate, I prefer IRL stuff.

So hell yea, I'd join. Even if posting some random thoughts on a random retro game would only get 5 replies, it's fine. (Hell, they'd get 5 replies if those thoughts were given their own thread, so like you said, it's better to just have it all in a general hangout.)

And this doesn't mean that dedicated topics wouldn't go in their existing (or new) places. For example, the Saturn thread (started by Daniel Thomas MacInnes Daniel Thomas MacInnes I think?) is amazing, and I want to contribute more to it. I was myself thinking of making Resident Evil and Yakuza community threads; I just haven't had the time to create them to the quality that I want.

Anyway, see what the interest is, but as far as I'm concerned, I'd say go for it. I know that some other cool cats like DunDunDunpachi DunDunDunpachi and teezzy teezzy may hang out there, too.

I have lurked that thread but it seems a bit different than I was envisioning. I guess mine would be more gaming focused, rather than random thoughts/chatter. I do see your point, though. Maybe they are too similar. I'll sleep on it and see if I get any more feedback.

Nah, I actually agree with @Sidney Prescott -- We need a version of the Meta GAF thread that's gaming focused.

Another thing about the Meta GAF thread. Seems pretty chill and cool, and I may even join -- but (unlike my IRL self) I'm a bit more dry on the forum, and the Meta GAF thread seems to have too many "forum personalities." Some cats have a funny act; some others seem to be trying way too hard :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Like, if Sidney opened up the gaming version of it, I could, I don't know, talk about anything,
- "Is there a way to get rid of the yellow coloring on some SNES carts?"
- "Hey I was watching some YouTube footage of [insert game here that no one gives a shit about]"
- "Does Spotify have a lot of VG soundtracks?"
- "PowerA peripherals suck ass"

etc...

Back before everyone fled we talked about games all the time there
So you wouldn't mind if I interjected with something random like "Hey, I was watching someone play Tony Hawk's Underground. Man, I miss that game."

Because, man, I'm really feeling that right now :messenger_smiling_with_eyes:

220px-Tony_Hawk%27s_Underground_PlayStation2_box_art_cover.jpg

That's fair. If this is one of those "be the change you want to see" situations, I can give the Meta thread a chance.
Fair point. I guess we could just use the Meta thread. I suppose I felt awkward posting in there, with being so new.
There's a generalized "what are you playing lately?" thread that might fit the bill @Sidney Prescott

Far be it from me to stop anyone from making threads, though. The worst thing that happens is no one replies. 🤷‍♀️
You're right. I have used that thread. I feel like it's often not discussion heavy though. Just tends to be people dropping a couple of thoughts about what they are playing.

I think I'll just make my presence known in the Meta thread, when I don't feel so anxious about it. :messenger_winking:

Checked out the Meta thread. The very first post I saw was somebody with an AOC avatar (🤮) talking about how they "need to move this forum to the left, it's too far to the right."

LMFAO. In the immortal words of Leon S. Kennedy:

f59.gif

That's another thing, too. I just want to chill with cool people and talk about video games. I'll check out the "What Have You Been Playing Lately?" thread instead.

I'll post in a Resident Evil thread if you do make it. If you ever need any help getting it together, I'm happy to help. Played quite a lot of the series, with the exception of a couple of games. I'm quite nostalgic over that series, so always up to discuss the old ones. Not as clued up on the animated films. but I've seen majority of the ones with Milla Jovovich, which everyone seems to hate. I enjoyed the first two.

I might make a Rockstar Games/Grand Theft Auto community thread eventually.

EviLore EviLore any chance to have an index of OTs with links to them stickied in the community forum? Might be useful.
I have some time to make this if EviLore EviLore is cool with it. Won't take me too long to compile them in to a thread. Sounds like a good idea to make navigating easier, and make sure older threads don't disappear in to the abyss.

I'll make it, but can't guarantee it will be stickied. Staff might be too busy at the moment.

Maybe breaking it into a couple categories might be OK? like gaming-non gaming, gaming-pop culture-other stuff.... I don't know, if you're making it you decide :)

I wonder if you could get the PSP and Vita Threads back on the list as they were done years ago but have sadly disappeared.
You mean the threads no longer exist?

If you remake them, I certainly will add them for you. Maybe you could make a thread for Sony Portables and have it be a thread for both.

Not sure if this is the right place to suggest/comment on this, so apologies in advance if that's not the case:

EviLore EviLore / Palliasso Palliasso / Admin team - though we have many healthy and robust OTs on the Communities side of things, we have been missing fairly big releases on the Gaming side and I wonder if it'd be possible to maybe set up some kind of reward for people (particularly newly minted full members) who create impactful OTs? Like, the OT with the highest engagement numbers in a given month, etc. Nothing fungible of course, just bragging rights: name in a different color, custom tag, or a few days of Gold like they do in the Meme contest thread. Hopefully to get more people into the OT game..

Hey Komatsu. Yeah, we can do that. I'll brainstorm with the team on potential incentives.

i miss the ERA and Nintendo threads 😢 GAF lacks a place to talk Nintendo news and discussion on the main forum, it was always super chill, and ERA needed a rest, but now i miss it 🤭 i feel there is a huge void now.
