Not really a fan of the face change, but the game looks good and the gameplay looks smooth. Can't wait to play.
This might be just my personal taste I actually prefer the new faces over the old one they actually much closer to their original concept.

In some ways I get a Demon Souls remake vibe. In that graphically it definitely looks better but artistically I like some elements of the original better (for example the faces, or look how at 2:53 the boss looks way more menacing in the original one).

But overall it still looks great!. Looking forward to replaying this game.

Idk the lore, but at least in those pics the character looks like a male. The new one in the game looks like almost like a young girl.

I feel like since the director himself is helping with this project, this was probably his chance to fix some character designs to match his original view of what they looked like from the concept art. I'm expecting one more forum poster to have the exact same take as you though(minus the positive part at the end), he just hasn't entered the thread yet.

Just made me think the original was better visually than it was given credit for being in its day.
Gameplay too. It was never a bad game. Has multiple huge boss fights that are fantastic spectacle fights as well. CG cutscenes also blended with the in game graphics well, and one of the best OSTs ever and best stories ever as the cherry on top. Some of the best vocal performances too. It was always a masterpiece of a game.

In PS3/360 era lot of people were much more obsess with graphics since it was first HD consoles so reviewers way more harsher when it comes to graphics back then.

It was a very anti-Japanese period in gaming media. People were comparing everything to Mass Effect and Skyrim and trashing Japanese games the whole gen. Things have definitely improved. They trashed Dragons Dogma the same way.

I strangely prefer the more yellow / orange lighting and grading of the original
I still can't believe there exists a generation of people who will have nostalgia for the yellow filters and bloom of the 360/PS3 generation. Then again there's a generation of people who actually liked the 15fps and fog effects of the N64/PS1 gen too.

Is the gameplay of this one better than Automata?

I feel Automata wasnt that great GP wise. Hard difficulty you die in one hit. Normal was too easy.

Banging OST though.

It's been 10 years since it originally came out so his original view of the game has probably changed since then though.

I do to at times. The original seems a bit more fantastical because of the coloring and the boss seemed more menacing. Everything just seemed so pale in the new version. The new version looks good at times and it seems to be far more detailed.

Hmm Not much of a difference visually. Effects seem different but not better. Glad I’m keeping my gestalt version. Just another preference.

It depends on the artist. Some had a vision and the tech at the time didn't match what they wanted. It's their curse though, as an artist they'll always want to go back and improve.

Nier Replicant Original PS3 vs PS4 Remaster Graphics Comparison. Nier replicant ver.1.22474487139 is looking awesome. Can't wait to play this game.

Let me know what do think about the new Nier replicant PS4 Remastered version.

Look at the downgrades in the robot chamber. No lightning. Ground texture simplified. Now look at robots, they don't have shadows. They look flat, unlike originals.

I'm sure they make this thing look like it should in finished product.

didn't even notice the lack of shadows on the character and enemy boss inside of the building.

at least they fixed the fact that cut scenes were missing some flames in the torch holders in the remaster.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
Huh, from some previous comparisons I thought it looked waaaaaay different to the original and like a huge upgrade in design as well as graphics but seeing it like this I guess it's almost 1:1 like the Demon's Souls remake after all. Neat, I guess.

It's a bit weird how some parts of it look completely different, almost a net generational leap bordering into full remake, and other seem to be virtually identical.

I'm curious to hear what version people will be playing.

Anybody going for the PC release? At first I was leaning this way, but the inclusion of Denuvo DRM has me re-evaluating. I'll probably end up with a copy for the PS4.

I'm stoked for this! Just finished Yakuza Like a Dragon so I could have a clean slate for Nier, and my girl will be out of town for the week/end too, so I should have more game time than usual. I'm pumped. When she gets back though she'll be wanting to play it, which I may stop to let her do so since she hasn't played this one yet, she loved Automata.

^^I've got it on PS5/PS4 version I guess, should be a good time and its fun seeing/hearing trophies pop. Just wish I could have the art avatars and not the 3D ones.
