The animations on dark hand are do much better. Does an uppercut if you use it mid combo. If you use it while dashing he does a superman punch.

Been listening to the full OST for a couple of days now, and I'm now fully sold on it as a legitimate improvement over the original.

If you're a fan of the original it can take a couple of listens to some of the more substantially rearranged tracks, but I think if you give it time its hard to argue that the new versions aren't simply stellar. The arrangements are phenomenal and where they are extended with new sections the transitions are seamlessly organic.

Phenomenal effort from Okabe and his musicians at Monaca. Bravo.

The blurb from the video:
  • Xbox One S uses a dynamic resolution with the highest resolution found being 1440x810 and the lowest resolution found being approximately 1152x648.
  • PS4 uses a dynamic resolution with the highest resolution found being 1920x1080 and the lowest resolution found being 1440x810.
  • PS4 Pro uses a dynamic resolution with the highest resolution found being 1920x1080 and the lowest resolution found being 1536x864. Pixel counts below 1920x1080 seem to be rare on PS4 Pro.
  • Xbox One X uses a dynamic resolution with the highest resolution found being 2560x1440 and the lowest resolution found being 1920x1080. Pixel counts at 2560x1440 seem to be common on Xbox One X.
  • Xbox One X renders the UI at 3840x2160 and PS4 Pro renders the UI at 1920x1080.
  • PS5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S currently run the game via backwards compatibility, so PS5 renders at a resolution of 1920x1080, Xbox Series X renders at a resolution of 2560x1440 and Xbox Series S renders at a resolution of 1440x810.
  • The Xbox Series consoles have improved texture filtering over the Xbox One consoles. The Xbox One consoles have improved texture filtering compared to the PS4 consoles. PS4 Pro and Xbox One X have higher quality shadows compared to the base consoles. Xbox One X seems to have improved texture quality compared to PS4 Pro.
So if you have both next gen consoles XSX is better all round thanks to the fact it is running the Xbox One X version unless they decide to patch it for next gen in the future.

The sound quality of the villagers while walking past them in towns is extremely bad. Great game itself so far, enjoying combat a lot more than in Automata.

Devola and Popola singing together...

Whew!

Got my money’s worth right there alone.
You know it is kind of nice seeing those 2 are semi happy in the game knowing what will happen at the end. I know what their role is but they seems so happy with Devola sing at the fountain and then at the bar at night and hear story where she got drunk. And the tongue cheek moment Devola mention that Song of the ancient is from a dead language.

i thought the remix of ashes of dream sounded worse. like trying too hard to add a new cover flavor, that the lyrics sounds muffled

Automata finally clicked with me recently, but now it feels like I am starting the journey all over with Replicant. As in, I don't really get the fuss. I'm around 10 hours in, and just when things seemed to get interesting, I went back to doing the same ol' thing. Which would be fine if the same old thing wasn't either a fetch quest or outdated mechanics like "get across this room without using your abilities way too many times."

The songs haven't clicked for me like Automata either, but to be fair, it's too early to say if that will change.

I do like the characters. They're likeable and fun. I love seeing a character evolve throughout time.

I don't want to come down hard on ths game. In fact, I really want to like it. Hoping it clicks with me by the end of the first playthrough.

In game or from the OST? There are 5 different versions!

Probably the most changed stuff is all the facade area stuff, Temple Of Shifting Sands is very different and I admit I didn't like it much initially, but if you listen to the whole piece and how it evolves its really, really good.

All this plus Auto HDR on the Series X.

Hi guys, I played the story a bit to far (5 years after) and now a lot of sidequests are locked out.
Is this permanent?

I believe it is for some things. But you have to replay the game a few times with alterations to see the entire story. There are endings A-E I think.

So you don't have to restart if you want to complete everything. Just pay attention on the next loop.

OST is absolutely 10/10.

Its one of the best ever composed. And I think I prefer the rearrangement also. I loved the version of Karma I heard.

Automata ran at a locked 1080p/60fps on PS4 Pro. I don't know what performance problems anyone had with Automata.

Apparently that is also the resolution and framerate target for Replicant on PS4 Pro, and I haven't bought a PS5 yet and plan to stick with my plan of buying PS5 when God of War: Ragnarok is released so I'll be playing on my Pro.

Speaking of which, the UPS guy just delivered my White Snow edition, what the fuck am I doing posting on GAF instead of playing it
It wasn't 60fps locked on PRO. Quite the opposite really.

I cannot overstate how much of a difference the new lighting system makes when it comes to the tone of the cutscenes.

eCpfqeN.png

Automata had an immensely CPU-intensive global illumination system which did not make that much of a difference - lots of people use FAR to disable it on the PC and it looks fine without it. They've taken a more conservative approach here, to better results. Game looks great.

It doesn't loop back that far. Those quests are forever locked out (unless you completely restart, obviously).

Kinda amazing that as much as kid Nier's section is so full of "meh" standard RPG stuff with little/no payoff (It's also a draaaaag if you want 100% side quest completion), it all comes together with such incredible payoffs down the line.

This game also makes MUCH better use of different gameplay styles than Automata. Playing through the mansion had me grinning like an idiot. And again with further mansion sections.

I'm playing on hard mode. But now stuck on a boss that has a timer countdown. I'm wondering if I am outputting enough DPS or I am doing the wrong thing.
Whenever I get close to the end of their life bar, stop using magic and go into the timer with full magic. It is still a struggle on some bosses for sure. Had the same issue.

So it is possible? This is a certain sized shade pressing towards a building.

I agree, its quite nice. For all the shadows and thematic darkness I really like the warmth that the lighting gives off, and the grey skies as well.

I’m LOVING this game, but upgrading weapons still pain in the ass. Even in Monster Hunter it takes less grinding for upgrading weapons than this game.

Well, maybe 4-5 years from not SQE will patch this game to run in 1800p on PS5, but I won't be holding my breath, more likely they'll just leave everything as is and call it a day.

So when does the game get good? People are saying ten hours. I'm about to head into the desert
I mean, I think it's good from the start. But as I mentioned earlier, kid Nier's section is pretty standard stuff. There are some interesting things that pop up now and then but until you get sent to the mansion near the end of kid Nier's section there's not much to change your mind if you aren't enjoying it already. So yeah, about 10-15 hour depending on if you're doing side quests.

Adult Nier is much more interesting from a story standpoint and you'll get access to 2 additional weapon types.

The banter between Nier, Weiss and Kaine is pure gold, which makes me want to do all the side quests.

Its never good, not this not automata. These 2 games are a weird and pretty unique case of having fans just by the nature of being a jap game. Its ther weaboo-ism of it all. And having a fetish for the story and characters, that they ignore the actual game. All you do here is running back and forth, in a world thats way too big and way to devoid of content and purpose, doing the most mundane and shit fetch quests, with mediocre combat. But hey, its a mastepiece, you only need to play it 5 times because you'll get some lore info. This game and automata makes you feel like you're in a twilight zone episode where everyone went mad.

What a shit tier take seriously, not much else to say.

whats shit about it ? What exactly is it good in this game, related to the act of actually playing it ? Tell me. Because so far, all ive seen people do is just ignoring and glossing over its numerous problems. The fact that this and automata are games where you need to go through them 3 times for "story" reasons seems to not be an issue at all for its fans. That youre doing fetch quest after fetch quest, running endlessly to anywhere, back and forth is again glossed over. Fans of this game just pretend nothing bad in it matters, because at some point you will watch some npc say something emotional and cool. Story never excuses poor design and gameplay. Never

So what's a good game mate?

So what's a good game mate?

None of you are addressing any of my points. You're just enforcing what said with this. How is this a good game where the content in playing the game revolves around fetch quests and running for long stretches of time and fighting poor enemies with a so-so combat system ? The game is not designed well. How is a game that you need to play 3 times to "get the story" somethig good ? Why is the story all that matters for the fans of this game and automata ? Nothing in this is fun or interesting or well put together to actually play. Its fans just ignore all the faults.

Is this one of those games that look way better playing it than in videos? I was interested in this game, but I saw the videos, and was like "you're not getting 60 dollars from me, cucks!:messenger_pouting:" Looks so freaking bad. Like early 360.

So far I am starting to think you are right about this game.

I enjoy Automata though. The world is a joy to be in, in large part due to the music, but the gameplay in Automata isn't bad at all. There are some really cool enemy encounters and a good variety of gameplay, from stylish action to top-down shooter, and more, which helps break the pace.

For you, I personally like the gameplay for both Automata and Replicant. Sure theses games have their faults but it doesn’t change enjoyment of these games.

I’m sure most feel same about Witcher 3 and RDR2 despite their faults.

Why some people love to put their opinion as facts?

As someone who really doesn't care for JRPGs or any of that "weeb" stuff in general, I really like the Nier games cause they are quite unique experiences with interesting themes.
Having said that, they can drag quite a lot and have some clunky game mechanics.
So they're not something I would recommend to everyone. You have to be able to tolerate some of that nonsense.

I have played around 15/20 hours and it is not an easy game to really dive in. I love Automata by the way, even if this game did have some repetitive game-design and, particularly, secondary quests.

Now diving into Replicant, I find that the game-design is even more old-school and let's be honest, pretty repetitive. The game relies a lot on having you travel from a place to another place, again and again. And the fetch-quests are pretty grindy, having to find tons of stuff. Takes a lot of time and is not very rewarding. Dungeon design is pretty standard, linear stuff as well.

So that was for the rant part. The world, music, atmosphere and characters are absolutely charming. Writing is fantastic, and the atmosphere you get from the places is really deep, immersive, almost hypnotizing. This is really the high note of the game.
Boss battles are pretty good, and combat feels good overall. I like that it is not as over the top as Platinum Games, and I think it makes the game more accessible which is fine as well.
I like the visuals as they are super clean and the lighting system, as well as the texture filtering, are so much better than in Automata. They feel right, and it shows the importance of having clean graphics beyond anything else. You don't need overly complicated 3D models and animated stuff everywhere if in the end, you can't even display clean textures and shadows. So the focus here was definitely the right one. Enemies and bosses are also very well done.

So I did rush a bit to keep the interest high, as the fetch-quests were kind of pulling me out of the game. Now that I finally got a better feel for it, and understand where the proposition wanted to bring me to begin with, I think I will better accept the formula and will probably try to do a bit more fetch-quests. Especially as the various discussions that happen between the characters are excellent and well written. I find the English dub very good as well.

To summarize, the game clicked. I know that I have seen a lot of it in a short time, but it felt like a necessary step for me to really understand and accept the overall proposition. I am curious to see how things are going to evolve, even if I think I might already be close to the ending (or maybe the first ending, supposing there are several ?).

Recommended, but you need to give it time.

14 hours in and Im enjoying it a lot less then Automata.

- Way to much loading screens. Why the fck is the office of Popola in a library? Every time you enter and exit there is a loading screen and you do that a lot!
- Lack of (real) fast travel is realy annoying, all I do is run from one end to another.
- Biggest dissapointment that the game locked me out of bunch of sidequest that I just cant do anymore (till next playtrough) due to bad narrative imo. I was expecting to do a side mission and ended up with 5 years later... without a fcking warning of seeing it coming.
- Also the music man, I understand some of you love it but it makes me nervous and sleepy.

It's good from the start so I don't know what to tell you.

Reading this thread makes me realise why some developers have decided to just say "fuck it" and shot out games like Anthem and Fallout 76. Why go through the hassle of making something special when people aren't going to appreciate it because they have such a narrow view of what a game should be like?

You do get fast travel to certain locations in a little bit. But surely you killed that boar in the first act? I think in general, what with climate change and all, we should consider moving more onto hog-based transportation, seems to work well.
