There's several instances of pop-in in the trailer.

Yes, that's a problem you have when PS4 and PS5 should be coded drastically different. Some shit will slip on how data streaming and LOD's management done from one to another resulting in things like that. But it looked flawless most of the time and there is still some time for them to fix those. More than sure they're taking notes.

I would think it would be something they could tweak for PS5 that would be a sort of final optimization step.

I'm really curious to see how this looks on PS4/Pro.

I consider this a good and bad sign for gameplay reveals like this tbh

It's generally bad and I hope they resolve the pop-in for the commercial release.
It's good because it's indicative that what we're seeing is an actual playable build of the game, imperfections and all. Not some fake target render deceptively being passed off as gameplay.

This is full of upscaling artifacts that weren't present in last year's trailer. Those things kind of drive me nuts.

Maybe performance isn't stable yet so lowered the resolution and partial resolution of the hair as well in some scenarios. The Horizon ZD trailer looked full of jaggies and shit before release as well, and this new game hasn't went gold yet.

In some ways it does. Like the RT that's used in Ratchet for example. Then there's all next gen I/O stuff that while doesn't exactly make the visuals better it does change the games design.

But either way PS5 owners have access to both so it really doesn't matter if one looks better than the other.

It has come to the point where Sony's first party efforts all look so good its simply a matter of taste and aesthetic sensibilities that determine which one looks "best." They all look fantastic and I'm going to play the hell out of all of them. My PS5 is probably the best $500 I've ever spent. The tech in it is unreal!! 😍😍😍

If you were looking for the graphics to perfectly match the reveal trailer you will be disappointed. If you have a realistic understanding of what the machines might be capable of you are perfectly happy. I think the game looks beautiful.

The same will be true for HellBlade 2 when gameplay is finally revealed. Graphics will not perfectly match the reveal trailer. For Xbox fans shitting on Horizon, remember that when Hellblade comes around. For PS fans going out of their way to praise the graphics even though they didn't match, remember that as well.

You are showing exactly the moment which has slightly disappointed me, destruction effect is nice, but all the pieces after destruction disappeared. And a new time, the impact from Aloy on folliage is very limitation. It's beautiful, but that's thing showing that remain in the heart a cross gen game.

I don't think it's cross-gen so much as just a matter of the physics system not prioritized yet for enough objects in a fracture or for maintaining them in a scene? Even UE Chaos on a good rig will drop pieces of a broken object and prioritize certain chunks over others as far as being live after setting momentum. (Persistence of appearance also should be a variable you can tweak in a physics engine, but in an open-world experience, you would want that dialed down to reasonable levels unless you're "in the room" with the wreckage... which Aloy was, and sadly the bits still disappeared right in front of her face.)

Seeing all that cool stuff break apart but disappear was an unfortunate lowpoint of the Horizon FWgameplay video IMO. But it's not something that just gets fixed by being "true next-gen" though; fracturing in Returnal has no persistence either and that's PS5-exclusive, and Crackdown 3 Wrecking Zone uses the cloud in multiplayer to keeps some big pieces well but it obviously disappears chunks a lot too. I'm not sure what game really pushes fracture chunk permanence well, but I do look forward to that being done better in new games. It'll be f***ing awesome when a game has perfectly messy chaotic destruction left everywhere you go...

Eventually, yes. But right now, I don't know that there really is a way to code differently. What's the game on PS5 that does LOD management perfectly, like a "real" next-gen game? Does Microsoft Flight Sim work perfectly all the time? UE5 was really great at handling Nanite, but I've already seen YT clips of people futz around with it enough that they get weird blocks and textures that weren't ready to load, and then once they flock a scene with grass shaders or what have you, you get LOD draw-in.

Horizon Forbidden West is kind of more about Decima Engine than it is the console you spit the code out onto. This is the game they built, and the game they can build with this engine at this point in time. They can crank things up and down with hardware (and when it comes time to output a PS4 version, they'll I assume have to take things out rather than just "scale down" to the lesser hardware,) but this is how the game engine is built to operate. Improve the engine and you improve the product. Jumping into water wasn't very good in the original game (very limited "water physics" in the first game), but then it was better on PC, which was the case because when Guerrilla did Frozen Wilds PS4, they improved the water system there; clouds were better on PC Horizon 1 than PS4, but PS4 Horizon 2 might be better in some ways than that because Decima has been improved its simulation algorithm. (You might be able to crank up the volumetric clouds in the PC game, but Horizon FW will have multiple cloud layers and clouds rolling around mountains and things like that which need power but also just need a scientist to design the algo.) PS5 has massively more latitude than PS4 of course, but it's still computing its shoes on one foot at a time....

Watched the video. Graphics looks amazing but those cutscenes everywhere...
I hope there will be more gameplay and much less cutscenes that interrupt gameplay.

That's pretty typical for a Sony gameplay demo though. Lots of game companies create extra-linear vertical slices for demos, with chatty characters and extra scripted events with close-up in-game cutscenes and custom-animated hero moments. In the actual game, you might get that density of scene-stealer (and controller-stopping) cut-ins when you play the tutorial or some epic key mission, but the rest of the game would be much more normal in pacing and interruption and openness. Look at TLoU2 gameplay reveal; GoW and GoT and Uncharted were similar (well, I haven't seen Tsushima's gameplay reveal in a bit, I bet that one isn't very "chatty"...)

I honestly don't understand this complaint. This brings more like to the game instead of playing with brainless protagonist that only make grunts and generic sounds like the majority of games.
I mean, when you paint it like that sure. But there's a big difference between NEVER shutting up and NEVER speaking. Like, basically every game falls in the middle of that spectrum. Aloy never shuts the fuck up in the first game. The character speaking definitely brings more to the game if it wasn't so constant. Sadly, like I said elsewhere, I'm finishing up the first for my platinum and the constant talking and self-narration is never-ending and really annoying.

Looking online like Twitter and instagram and on other forums, even among diehard Sony fans this is a common complaint so it's not like I'm the only one.

Maybe it's more like personal preference, I guess. It's critical to have the protagonist talking when not interacting with people enough. Returnal had no NPC's, so without her talking to herself as scientists do to save logs about new findings it'll be extremely bland.

Not saying you're wrong but it seems like personal preference. Cheers and congrats on qualifying in the last moment to the Champions League, but not sure if it'll be the case if Juve is still inside that Super League pit.

It looks better than the reveal trailer which was also real time unlike Hellblade.

Well it’s time to finally get a PS5.

My 2013 PS4 would explode if i run the game on it.
I know some ppl joke, but GTA 5 killed my PS3. Between that and TLoU. I think I got it in 2008?

Late gen, cross gen games running on old hardware can do it. I'm sure many ppl have had a PS4, XBO, Pro, One X for years now.

If we are talking about the trailer they released a few months ago with the extremely detailed crab on a beach then you are either trolling or...... nope, just trolling lol

You mean the one that was captured off a PS5?

With that said while it came from the console there was never a confirmation of what it was. The crabs could have been from a realtime cutscene for example. We all know that IQ can be boosted in those. As for Hellblade 2 I have no idea where the footage came from.

Curious, nobody made a gif of the moment when the Mammoth is losing wooden stuff, so well done !

HZD on PS4, photomode, no cinematic :

I'm pretty sure these crabs could easily be done in HZD3.

I don't think most folk actually know what these machines are actually capable of. This was kind of the reason that I wish Sony had done more of a comparison of the graphical power between the ps4 and ps5 when they presented the ps5.

True but what I like about Sony is that they are showing us the PS5s power with 1st party games. I really liked seeing how amazing Demon Souls looked when the gameplay was first shown on the system.

While an indepth technical breakdown would have been nice just seeing great looking games is even better.

oh those times there were 3 architectures, PowerPC on Xbox, cell architecture for PS3 and x86 for PC. It was a messy time.

I still use the original PS4, never had problems but the console is starting to show it’s age, it’s starting to make a lot of fan noise and I think loading times will get longer on cross gen games. If I had a PS4 pro I wouldn’t be worried but it’s time to get a ps5…

Another verified VFX master to guide our eyes to the right path.

I think the argument from authority trick, which still doesn't make sense because VFX technicians do things completely differently to game developers and programmers, the constant lack of knowledge "VFX people" have shown on these threads especially when it comes to graphics rendering systems and engines just proves it.

The question was whether this game matches CGI.

It’s always going to be a silly question; the newest pre-rendered graphics, done offline with more power and no need to render frames within milliseconds, will always outdo the newest game console.

The game does outdo many legacy examples of CGI of course, but old cgi looks like dogshit now lol

I wasn't that impressed by what I saw of Demon Souls. I thought it looked good but I was expecting more from a next gen game.

Decent comparison shot of the 2020 reveal trailer vs 2021 gameplay demo. Very similar fidelity.

After rewatching the video with maximillian dood I was kinda shocked aloy was wearing leaves for clothes since she is fighting and riding machines. Like wouldn't those leaves get destroyed pretty quick in a battle plus she likes to roll around in battle so wouldn't they be destroyed after one outing. Wait she is wearing shorts underneath the leaf dress.
