Todd Howard rejected the Dwemer from ESO

If you aren’t familiar with the Dwemer or need a refresher, they are an ancient, lost race in the Elder Scrolls universe. “Dwemer” is roughly translated as “People of the Deep.” The Dwemer are a hot topic in The Elder Scrolls because they’re surrounded by a fascinating mystery that we’ve yet to find any explanation for. During the Battle of Red Mountain, the Dwemer seemingly disappeared entirely, and no one knows why.

This seems like the perfect setup for new content. There’s a totally open-ended mystery about one of the main races in Tamriel, so exploring this and potentially answering questions in The Elder Scrolls Online would seem like a natural step to take. However, Bethesda executive producer Todd Howard was not on board with this idea.

In an interview with Game Informer, Elder Scrolls Online creative director Rich Lambert informed that the team had every intention of pursuing the mysteries surrounding the Dwemer, likely because they knew it would be a hit topic to cover, but Todd Howard “kindly reminded [them] that this was something [they] will never do, [they] will never come out and spoil the mystery and the secrets of the Dwemer.”

EDIT: I updated the article and the title to reflect better the opinion.

Thanks mods for the title change

I know literally nothing about ES lore or geography, but looking at a map I'm gonna say it'll be Elsewyr or Hammerfell because those sound the best in a subtitle.

this article is cheeks

They still managed to sneak one in(the last of his race):

Good. The best part of the Dwemer is the fact that we know nothing about them. plus, revealing answers in ESO? Get outta here.

While the devs managed to sneak in Yagrum, his character actually has no knowledge of what happened because he was in an entirely different dimension when the entire dwemer race was wiped from existence. That's the only reason he survived. So both parties can be pleased.

Wow OP, you should be banned for posting the most worthless click bait shit I’ve seen In awhile. Shame on you.

Eh it's interesting seeing how the Godd works. I'll allow it.

Also I loved the days back when Morrowind was poppin, everyone trying to solve and find lore while posting/discussing it on their forums. It's kind of neat to keep some parts of the lore more of a mystery.

Very cool. Thank you.

So the original article may be BS, but even if it wasn't, honestly, leaving the Dwemer in the past is probably the smart move.

Usually when lore mysteries are explored in sci-fi and fantasy, the reality is extremely limited and thin compared to fan theories or even your own imagination. Better to leave the Dwemer as larger than life legends than to demystify them and expose how little there really is to the concept.

That or make their return the focus of its own game like the dragons in Skyrim. One of the biggest, most enduring mysteries in the Elder Scrolls deserves to be more than some expansion or DLC. That would be worse than making Revan some sub-boss in the Old Republic MMO.

One of the worst thing developers do is try and explain everything.
Todd is right on this one. Too bad Kojima did not understand this.
I forgive Kojima for that because MGS 4, 5, and Peace Walker were really fun games to play.
