Is Final Fantasy XV good and worth buying like the other big FF releases?

I quite enjoyed it. Whilst it's not the best FF game you'll definitely get value for money if you buy the Royal Edition for $20.

A friend of mine offered me the game for free (XV) and I said that it was too expensive. So... I'll say to play until 10. After that just mediocre games, or less.

None of the last few games was good as a RPG nor as a hack'n'slash. If you want to play hack n slash, there is Bayonetta, dMC and God of War. If you want to play a good RPG, try Persona or Trails of cold Steel.

FF15 didn't leave any lasting impression but disappointment. It's so many good games out, don't waste your time with this entry if you don't have to.

I was there for versus XIII, I was there for the bad E3 demos, and I've paid attention to the game, it's expansions, and DLC since it released, but I have never actually brought the game.

The reason is because to me, it looks stupid. I'm not going to sugar coat it. Most gifs, clips, and videos I've skimmed make the open world of FFXV look very boring and barren, the heroes are from a kingdom with the main protagonist being a Prince, but they travel the world in a sports car. Making matters worse you have very dry NPC characters like the lady mechanic who fixes up your car or the farmer, and the combat doesn't look engaging.

But as I said, I never actually played the game, and it has sold a crazy amount of copies making it one of the best selling games in the series, so there is a chance I may be missing something. Is it worth playing like other big FF games like 8, 10, 12, or 13? How's the story, world, and gameplay? Am I wrong with my jumpy assumptions?

I like the game, but you pretty much described my experience with it. Big boring empty world, very pretty though with great music! I would let the car auto drive checking off quests while playing bravely default on 3ds.

I waited and bought Royal Edition, couldn't get into it. One of the few games last gen I didn't finish. The controls were awkward, the story was weird.

Now you are just being a dick. Haven't even played the game but are turning it down because yuo read somewhere it was supposedly shit. Grow up.

Fun and enjoyable game . Okay-ish mechanic , great characters , all over the place story . But I still like it .

7.5/10 . Better than the recent AC Valhalla game .

It's a mess

Sometimes it's very good, and other times it's terrible. Some really inspired moments, but in others, fucking Jared died and you should care.

It's up there with MG V as "unfinished game that could have been amazing but its unfinished as fuck and full of baffling design decisions"

Definitely worth experiencing

As a game it's very mediocre , as a Final Fantasy game , it's definitely one of the worst . FF13 is dull but FFXV is offensively bad . Hated the bros roadtrip , hated how badly Luna/Stella was downgraded in term of design and story appearance (preceded by her freaking dog lmao) , hated the uncreative world design , hated the driving , hated the timeskip , hated cutscenes summon , hated auto combat just hated everything about this game that felt half-baked and cheaply outsourced . The only redeeming point about this game is the music .

Let me add on ... while the combat is shallow and boring , I felt like breaking the disc into half when this piece of dogshit covering the entire camera during combat

This game is not Final Fantasy . It should be named Final Destination XV marking the death of mainline FF .

The Royal/Windows editions is good, it's very ambitious so it falls short in several parts but it's probably the JRPG with the biggest production values until FFXVI.
It also very risky with several of the design choices, so i don't find it a disappointment.

It is a game that feels incomplete similar to MGSV, but i would say that not as extreme as that. The game was forever in development and it still feels like it needed a couple of more years of it.

15 has good combat mechancis. It should be cheap now and worth the 20 bucks. Story was a snoozefest tho. Was more convoluted that it needed to because Nomura and his infinite wisdom wanted a million tie ins.
Good combat mechanics? Isn't combat literally holding down a button to combo attacks. That's the way I remember the combat in XV.

Shit combat.

I loved FFXV in its vanilla form. I thought the whole story was a good adventure. Liked the combat quite a bit, although a bit simple.

I'm interested in it, and I've purchased it's 'royal edition' and am trying to play it. But it's in competition with a couple dozen other amazing titles on my system and consequently I've yet to really give it much time.

I feel like I could enjoy this game, it's shallow but it has pretty interesting characters and more importantly my girl seems interested in it, but I'll be honest... I think I accidentally turned down manually driving the car for the first mission in which you have that choice, and not being able to do that killed my enthusiasm for a few months.

That's like saying that every game it's just pushing buttons...the combat does work by holding buttons and directions, which is unorthodox for action games but it has some purpose by integrating an action combat in an rpg and removing a lot of the execution barrier for beginners.

It's like when people argue that a fighting game with auto combos it's too shallow, completely missing the point of why is there and how it's integrated.

Yes.

The story is horrible, to tbh I feel that way about lots of FF titles that I genuinely like the gameplay to. I feel FFV has a shit story, but that job system gameplay is AMAZING! You have more good then bad. The open world is fun to explore, the hunts you go on are very fun, the towns and the NPCs are interesting and unique, the game play is pretty fun too. Its a solid FF title, I can't say no simply because for all I know you love the story, some here actually do. So who am I to tell you not to play it based on how I feel when I fucking feel that way about lots of games? lol

I love MGSV, and shit that story sucks, but I could never tell someone to NOT play such a masterful game in terms of stealth action. So go for it. Its not as bad as FF religious zealots make it out to be, based on their logic 1 good Final Fantasy was made, so take anything they say with a grain of salt.

I was also extremely hyped by versus XIII.

Then I got XV on release. I was a bit disappointed at first and it didn't "feel" like a Final Fantasy. But in the end, I had a lot of pleasure playing it.

I did another playthrough with the Royal edition last year, and again I had a lot of fun playing. And it's definitely feel like a FF. Some aspect make it a bit hard to get into (for me it was the car and all the stuff around) but in the end, I loved the game. The whole "bro band traversing the world in sport car" seems a bit dumb at first but it works perfectly. The bound and interactions between Noctis and friends are really the thing that transcended my playthrough

It's not a masterpiece but worth the buy in my opinion especially at the price you can get it nowadays.

I'm not someone who's deep into the story/lore of Final Fantasy, but I got some good 180 hours out of it. I really enjoyed the whole vibe of traveling with friends, amazing looking food and graphically amazing landscapes. Also the music is really good in my opinion. If you're not sure and it's for sale for cheap I'd pick it up just for the vibes alone, even if it doesn't last for long for some people.

It's a pretty game. Yoko Shimomura's score is pretty awesome. Some of the creature designs are neat as hell. The dynamic between the main party is pretty good, despite Noctis being the only one with an actual arc. The main plot is pretty good.

On the flipside, it's far too easy, main story missions are too few and too far apart. Side quests feel mostly pointless, despite having some good rewards/boss fights. DLC is pretty great, but the way it's incorporated into the game feels disjointed and jarring.

Regardless, if you choose to play it, play the Royal Edition. It's a better experience for the final Dungeon alone.

I loved 15, but I played the Royal Edition through Game Pass. I would only recommend it if you can get the Royal Edition on sale, as you really need all the DLC to get the full potential of the story.

I can also honestly say the main antagonist is IMO the best of the FF series. He's logical, menacing without resorting to moustache-twirling theatrics, and like any good villain is the hero of his own story.

Edit, look for something online to give you a spoiler-free order by chapter when to play the various DLC content, and at least look up the plot point highlights of Kingsglaive and the short anime series. Squeenix committed the ultimate sin of storytelling IMO of burying important plot details in other forms of media.

I still don't understand why Noctis recover his HP/MP when he is hanging up in the wall/with his sword. Is the Royal family descent from some tree dweller apes or geckos maybe?

lol watch us find out that FFXV is really in the same universe as The Getaway

No he is not... he is super duper lite version of Emet.

Game is for 10 bucks here and there. The point is not about if it's worth paying for it but more about if it's worth the time you require to watch or play all this shit to understand this borefest of an uncomplete messy game.

Eh, I like it. Haven't watched everything and loved the game. This would be more applicable if it was something cheeks like Marvel, where you have to watch 30+ movies and read 40+ years of comics to catch up. How many universes are in that shit now?

I mean... Ardyn predates Shadowbringers and heavily inspired Emet's character and mannerisms. It was immediately obvious when he first showed up in Stormblood, though they admitted to turning down that aspect several notches for Shadowbringers to avoid overlap.

The game's plot is much more complicated then the previous episodes. This is the first FF with a sad ending.

I think it is okay to experience it if you buy it cheap. Granted I still haven't finished the game as well. The banter between the guys and bonds were pretty good. I did enjoy the whole bro car journey but I felt that it wasn't done that well and I wish they had traveled to some really quirky locations. The music is one of the best parts of the game.

Emet-Selch inspiration actually from Jack Sparrow and the devs is aware of the similliarities with Ardyn and want to avoid the character from overlap.

The idea of Emet Selch drew inspiration from Jack Sparrow from the Pirates of the Caribbean series, with the goal of adding more human elements on top of that.

He also kind of overlaps the image of Ardyn from Final Fantasy XV, which is why we needed to work around it so that the two characters didn’t overlap too much.

Like most major characters in XIV, Emet had more than one inspiration, and it's clear that Ardyn is one of the inspirations in Emet's introductory scene. Hence, the developer's desire to avoid more overlap in Shadowbringers proper.

I have to ask: have you actually seen his Stormblood scenes recently, or are you going by memory? I replayed MSQ recently so its fresh on my mind, and his mannerisms are quite different and more theatrical than ShB. He even has a swagger to his walk in Stormblood lol

I enjoyed it much more than most it would seem. One of the rare occasions I worked to unlock every trophy. Traditional FF it is not, however.

Is garbage tier and if you play it, you can tell it’s just a cobbled together mess. Literally everything you do makes no sense other than just doing something.

The main quest is go to one city to meet someone. Once that ends at chapter 9 the game is effectually over and just boring story scenes and some linear gameplay.
