Same here, most of them are FIFA/COD/Fortnite/PUBG first,
Is PUBG on consoles still a thing? I thought (not that it's my genre at all so haven't kept up closely) it had been pretty much abandoned due to Fortnite (casuals), Warzone (pretty much casuals too, they just don't admit it) and other BRs.

Actually most of my friends play PUBG on mobiles and FIFA on PS4. Kids play fortnite.

If you mean iPad Pro, then that's a pretty powerful shit with 120Hz. I bought one for my wife.

Oh yeah, that makes sense - PUBG mobile is apparently a real cash cow for the company. Nice to hear your friends are contributing too :)

No wonder why PS are heading towards mobile gaming. It's funny that Sony Music has a game that made more than $4 billion USD revenue by last year and still 3rd highest revenue in mobile gaming early 2021 which probably meaning it's already beyond $5B! Crazing money to make there.

From a business POV it certainly makes sense, I just hope they don't get too much into it, or pick up the worst practices in the field. I knew a guy from uni who ended up after graduation working for Rovio (the Angry Birds company). I meet him some years after, it comes up where he is employed, so out of curiosity I start to ask him about how they design games and such, whether they have some interesting games in the works. Just to get a feel if they'd finally stop milking the birds and come up with new ideas. (this was a long time ago, don't keep up with Rovio - maybe they have, but I wouldn't hold my breath)

Instead, he proceeds to describe, in almost surgical detail, how the core design philosophy is for monetization - gameplay is a part of it, but never the main thing. It was kind of impressive in how well it was thought out, but at the same time felt like "surely this can't be legal". I ask him "but how about selling a game for a single payment - the customer knows what how much he will pay, and you get to put more resources in the actual games. Hell, I gladly pay 60€ for a game on a regular basis if it is well made". He just couldn't comprehend what I was saying. It was like I was speaking a foreign language. The guy had been just a regular laid-back CS student some years ago, but now turned into a complete... "corpo", for lack of a better term. was still disappointed with Cyberpunk

The mobile space is a shithole - an extremely lucrative shithole, but a shithole nevertheless. And the problem with shitholes is, once you step into one, you will also be covered in shit. Hopefully Sony won't go in too deep.

I hope they start by porting beloved PSP/Vita games into Android and iOS with reasonable prices. That will add so much quality offering in mobile gaming.

Not gonna buy an internal ssd for my ps5 for years at this rate. Might even hold out until the ps5 pro which will prob have a bigger internal drive.

Warzone is the only problem regarding size.

Zero optimization, incompetent studio. Most games designed around HDD are filled with duplicates, so an incompetent studio won't spend money and resources on current gen optimization.

And what you're gonna do about it? Nothing. If next CoD will be once again 250GB then that's what it will take, and finding excuses/someone to blame won't free up the drive space.

Me neither. Not upgrading the internal storage any time soon, if ever. The 825 GB really is more than enough in most cases, especially with my 4TB HDD that I use for cold storage.

I can store 8-10 games in PS5 internal storage, and I hardly play more than 3 at a time. If I need to swap a game, I connect and use the external HDD.
Yeah me neither. That thing is going to cost $300... For that I might as well go ahead and buy another PS4.

Anyway, I don't see the need for it, I have installed right now FFVIIR, God of War, The Witcher 3, Monster Hunter, GTA V and I believe TLOU II. That's more games than I'm able to play.

Those of you guys who have it are super lucky. i will just play on base ps4 until i manage to snag one next year (that is if gow2 drops).

Yeah, usability of the m.2 port seems like it would be as useful as a shitty parallel port. I can see your thought process behind that post.

Already have it installed as 33.6GB. Update shouldn't add much if any, it could as well shrink as it replaces older files instead of piling them up.

If you think that console manufacturers do not have guidelines for devs or will not discuss with AA/AAA publishers about what matters to them you are being quite naive.

Developers have a product to make, if they have no reason/no incentive to spend time optimising for size they will just defer it to a future iteration or another game when they can. If you make your own cave troll game and it is 2TB or 1 GB, the latter might have an easier time with other TRC/Sony QA approval requirements for PS5 ;).

It is puzzling what is holding them back, what the pacing item is (lots of guesses thrown at the wall), but at least is pushing them to push devs to reduce the install size.

I am not sure what is happening with multiplatforms on XSX|S though, according to some it is because to make the cause of people that bought the pricey memory card add-on to play across XSX and XSS without downloading additional assets (which is an edge case) which contributes to people needing more space and this the card itself. Then again, I am not sure if it is correct, but this is not the theory Sony fans came up with either :).

do you think the SSD add on will be cheap for PS5? its new tech it will be pricey

If you enter the thread you'll get it. It piles the new XSX version 24GB over the 21.1GB XBO version and you can't delete the XBO one. Check the later pages of that thread.

It can start pricey and drop drastically over the years due to being shared in a much wider PC market.

Not knowing what the pacing item for Sony in this case, what is holding activation of this bay back, it is a bit difficult to say. If off the shelves SSD’s can be used I see the price (whatever it is initially, this is the bit that is difficult to estimate, still thinking the problem is not drives being fast enough but Sony’s OS drivers holding them back [2 priority levels vs 6 and arbitrating over them] and Sony being cautious and trying to avoid bad press during a relatively good launch window) dropping relatively quickly over time.

I never had to delete anything, it was 21 GB after the update (update was 6 GB or so). Seems like a weird bug or something. Having it as the standard number in the table is disingenuous.

It's registered as add-on and can't use the new one without the XBO version. BTW, it's $10 to buy the upgrade if you have XBO version. I have the PS5 version from PS Plus so it's been native since a while.
