Avatar - Frontier of Pandora | Announcement Trailer

The actual retail game wont look anywhere near that level of fidelity, so what's even the point?
That was no more than a fancy tech demo for their engine.
Is it even that? They never labeled it as in-engine, just that the project is being built with Snowdrop.

I hope they can achieve this (Snowdrop is a great engine, obviously it's never been pushed like this but it's made for latitude like this,) The actual game will be a first-person game though and most of this footage is third-person, so we'll have to see what bearing the first trailer has on the playable game.

*CORRECTED: in the very beginning, it says "Game footage powered by Snowdrop".

Woops, I guess I’m simply out of the loop!

Avatar 2 and 3 are done filming. They're just doing the effects now. 4 and 5 are written but they haven't begun filming yet.

The first sequel is set 8 years after the first movie and is about Jake and Neytiri's kids:

In case this really get released in 2022 and won't be heavily downgraded itncould actually be a game from Ubisoft that I'd be interested in.

But I have my doubts.

Well it actually said 'Footage powered by Snowdrop', which makes you think its in engine at least.

Check again? I only see it says "Powered by Ubisoft Snowdrop", as in the game will be on that engine, but that's not to say the game trailer is in-engine.

(Weirdly, they don't have a disclaimer either way, which they're usually careful to note.)

The game was announced in Feb 2017, so being on track for a 2022 release would be more than reasonable.

I loved the trailer, it was a nice surprise to seem something of this and hopefully if they're targeting 2022 this is some indication of the visual quality we'll get in game, especially with it being focused on PS5, Xbox Series systems, PC and the other streaming platforms, not PS4 and XBox One holding it back.

Hopefully it's an open world, action adventure game, with a Single Player mode, but also a good online mode too.
Maybe Ubisoft are waiting to show actual playable gameplay on one of their Marketing Partner's Streams.
It's likely only launching holiday '22 [close to movie], so next E3 we'll see the actual gameplay.

Snowdrop is the best engine out there jesus christ. People saying that it wont look like this just need to boot up Division 2 on pc (the expansion part), max it out in 4k and turn on HDR

It already does

They are definitely being sneaky about it. but they did release these screenshots. companies dont tend to release screenshots of CG trailers.

IMO This is easily doable on next gen consoles if they aim for 1440p 30 fps with no ray tracing eating up GPU resources.

Funny, because if the final game ends up looking like that in-game, it would be the best looking game of this gen so far bar none.
awfully early in the gen to say something like this, this is one of the very first third party "next gen only" games we've seen

Would inspired confidence had it been some sort gameplay trailer, or anything running in realtime.
It's next-gen only, so there's a genuine chance it'll look as good as the trailer on PC running at max details @ 4K.

I was very excited until I learned it will be in first person. This would have been so awesome as a third person open-world game.

First Pixar and now James Cameron, the gaming industry doesn't take any prisoners I see...

It'll end up just as downgraded as Anthem.

Yeah who in their right mind would ok a bunch of sequels to the biggest most successful film of all time that's spawned a fucking Disney park... Oh wait some internet people didn't like it...
I was clearly making a subjective comment based off the quality of the film and primarily the story, not the commercial success of the film. No shit Fox and now Disney greenlit 3/4 sequels, I also would be happy if Universal stopped making Fast and the Furious.
Apologies if that didn't come across.

I understand commercial incentives but doesn't mean that I as a consumer have to like them.
