Just watched that Gundam Hathaway movie on Netflix.

The production values were really nice and it had one cool sequence in the middle but overall found it pretty bad.
I'm not sure if Netflix had crap subtitles but the dialog and writing felt extremely awkward, bordering on nonsensical at times.

Also finished Vivi, overall found it really enjoyable

Just binge watched 86. What an incredible anime, its right up there with Attack on Titans, and its just Season 1.

So it gets better?
I gave it 3 or 4 episodes and while it seemed interesting at first I found it boring. It's like it hardly even had a plot, every episode was the same. Her talking with the squad, her talking with some friend or colleague about how what they are doing is wrong, then maybe something bad happened on some vague mission or someone got angry at her. And then the next episode was the same.....and then the next episode was the same.

For what it is it's actually pretty good, but it requires a lot of pre-knowledge to make sense of the story and a lot of those "nonsensical" dialogues is influenced by this requirement. Most of those exchanges between Hathaway and Gigi, he is pretending a lot and Gigi is going along trying to provoke him to blow his cover and admit his schemes.
After you get to know what you need before watching it actually makes sense.

And what a fuckup that guy is, he saved the life of the person hired to kill him and the one that it's actually competent enough to succeed.

Record of Ragnarok has an interesting premise but it moves too damn slow. Four episodes for the first fight? Get outta here.

It gets better. Its really unfair to judge it by episode 3 or 4. Even AoT had its fair share of boring episodes.

It's already out? I thought it was gonna be coming out in theatres this year or something. Or was that last year?

I guess.
I just found everyone was weird, making weird decisions and saying weird stuff. But I will admit my pre knowledge of this is pretty bad.

Yeah it's out on Netflix...at least in my region.

Some things were also very hard to me but I endured because I have watched little of Gundam and was able to get a sense of things. But still this movie relies too much on prior knowledge about a specific movie (Char's Counter Attack) .
I think we can say that the gist of it is that this Hathaway fucked things hard on the previous movie because of... pussy and cuckery, and never recovered from it, that why he fucked things again in this movie also because of... pussy and cuckery. Seeing from this angle it becomes a lot simpler.

But man... I don't recommend watching Gundam to anyone. It's a mess, repetitive (no only it's always about the damn war it's also between the worst fuckers in Sol System) and idiotic. Talking about the "good entries", but it can be even worse with those excesses of esoteric mystical powers and "the human evolution" (pff)... Because I liked Hathaway I muster the strength to watch something more to have a better opinion of franchise and got Unicorn to watch (7 OVAS). As predicted was a waste of time. Than I watched Narrative because why not that it's a direct movie sequel and I felt offended by how bad that movie is. How can this series be still going so strong after all this time with so many bad stories, so many baffling characters, with that writing? Who the fuck is Tomino fucking all this time to be allowed to continue with this scam to sell toys?

Oh, forgot to mention that you all should watch Thunderbolt Fantasy (that one with the puppets). It's really the "COOLEST SHIT".

Thunderbolt Fantasy S3 #END

Waited for this season to end to binge.
For the end it was already clear, but for what I understood Urobuchi already talked on interviews about how, finally, he was allowed to thing about this as a long franchise and wrote this season planning for the next ones. Good.
I liked this season more than the second, except this bit:

When she "corrupted" the king she was only acting on her nature. Isn't the duty of the king to resist these sorts of "demonic" influences? Isn't the blame more with him than with her?
On one hand I understand the logic of "pushing evil with evil", it's just that this "justice" feels a bit "unjust" to me, even more so when Lin/Gale was the responsible for orchestrating this punishment. From all characters, humans and demons, he is the one that more takes pleasure with the suffering of others. Up to now in this series the biggest cruelties where committed by him. There's no way I can be glad seeing this.

Also with this end I got the feeling that the psychopath "Incel" Monk ended with a reward, after everything he did in these two seasons. Even considering that his ultimate goal was horrifying on purpose.

Again, things ended with everything being hurt, suffering, losing important things and finding more reason to nurture ire against others, meanwhile Lin/Gale goes home laughing...

Well I ended up watching it, it was alright (didn't realise it is going to be a trilogy) but I have a problem with the idea that they need to get humanity into space because the Earth can't sustain the population.
Earth doesn't even have that many people living on it in the time the movie takes place, and if they can generate food and resources in space I don't see why they would be unable to do the same on Earth. At the very least they could just send resources from space to Earth.

I watched around an hour and understood almost nothing. I looked up the plot online and it seems that
Hathaways is the leader of a terrorist group??? But isn't he supposed to be the hero??
For a movie that got so much marketing and hype it doesn't even try to appeal to viewers who aren't familiar with the ins and outs of the UC. I watched a few UC series (0083, 08th MS team) and they do a far better job at telling standalone stories.

There are no "heroes" in Gundam as far as I know, since the first one. It was always about a "two sides" conflict, both have legit claims to some degree that are clashing.

I also don't fault the movie for requiring prior knowledge, it's part of an overall story anyway. The marketing is always directed to the fans, always pointing if it's a UC history or not, and always showing the familiar faces that will be on it.
And you don't need to watch much, generally people just say "watch the original trilogy movie (that compiles the original) and Char's Counter Attack", everything that comes after can be linked to those stories.

Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibouken has reached the events of volumes 15 and 16 which I've had for nearly 20 years. Finally watching them in anime form is a childhood dream coming true. What a time to be alive. This show is such a satisfying stream of non-stop, well written, classis shonen action.

My thought as well. And it will only gets better and better. The second half of the Manga is some of the best shonen.

How do you guys find time to watch anything? I'm always so busy and when I actually get time off I'm too tired to watch anything or I just want to spend some time with friends or playing games. I used to multitask, but I can't do this with every anime. Some of them require more attention.

I used to watch 10 series every season, now I can barely keep up with one.

A series is 12 x 24 minutes, this is around less than 5 hours spread along 3 whole months. It's the equivalent of watching a movie every month, except that it's easier because you don't need to find time to stop for more than one hour to watch, 30 minutes is enough.
You just don't have the desire to watch anything, and this is ok.
Don't watch anything just to say that you watched or feel that you have to, just watch what are you interested when you find something that interest you, and if you end being wrong along the way feel no remorse in dropping. That's normal.

I didn't realize it was 2 couers, so ep. 12 was very "shocking" to witness, lol.
Lol, I'm still behind.

Eh, I really cut down on anime. Hell, there's still anime I want to watch but I don't have the time. The same thing with games. Try to watch one series at your own pace.

If you watch 5 shows that's like 2 hours a week. Barely anything.
I probably spend more than that just sitting and refreshing Gaf. Sounds like you just don't want to actually watch anime.

Someone at my job was talking about Tokyo Ghoul. Decided to watch 3 episodes of it. It's not really good I feel so far. Does it get any better, should I read the manga instead (which looks better), or just drop it? The only things I really liked were the OP and ED songs.

Wife and I finished School Days, wife hated it because she couldn't stand the main character. I still enjoy it because it's a twist on the harem genre of anime.
Now we are going to try and push out way through the rest of Naruto, up to episode 171 and it's a damn slog at the moment, all fillers episodes until Naruto Shippuden.

Has anyone finished the Assassination Classroom? Does it get better? I'm up to volume 8 and it is fun to read but there is zero characterisation going on in this book.

I dropped Tokyo Ghoul after a few episodes. Interested to know as well.

Also, I am watching Future Boy Conan at the moment. Early Miyazaki TV series - not yet sophisticated but quite good. And you can see the glimpses of the genius to come in there.

It definitely has slice of life aspects to it but it's very minor and more focused on the Yanki lifestyle but yeah the conflicts are gang fights but it isn't like a typical battle shonen or a typical shonen lead. The MC is a more of weakwill protag so don't expect him to be a strong character in a lot of fights.

Nah, don't bother. They went with an alternative story in anime, irrational at that. Imagine Kaneki getting kidnapped by a bad ghoul organization, they keep him captive and all, they all hunt people and enjoy human meat. Now, in the manga he does everything to escape. In the anime he randomly decides he'll lead them. Like, what?
Manga's a little better, but still not very great. Sui Ishida is a great artist, but he's absolutely terrible at drawing motion and panel placement.

Well, sounds like I dodged a bullet. Sounds like characterization and pacing sounds pretty bad. What's funny is that I thought the animation in the anime didn't look too good and I saw the art and thought it looks pretty good. But man the plot and characters are pretty thin on depth.

Maybe Choujin X will fare better?

Btw could someone tell me if Boruto is worth picking up again? I stopped at like episode 170 or something. Did something significant happen so far?

They should do a new rozen maiden with such doll style.

Omar doing some manga overviews.

He talks about The Flowers of Evil manga. It was also an anime that only lasted 1 season and was retoscoped, I loved it since it was never finished I was interested in the manga.
This complete set interests me.

Man Beastars runs this fine line between being engrossing and off-puttingly weird.

Also the whole carnivorous vs herbivorous thing in society doesn't make that much sense considering:
- There are guns in this world, so physical strength doesn't make that big of a difference.
- Wouldn't hippos, elephants, rhinos, etc be absolute beats anyway?

Wife and I finished Jujutsu Kaisen last night and we thoroughly enjoyed it, I loved the shit out of it. I know it's just another shonen anime but that animation from MAPPA is damn sublime. I action scenes are intense as fuck and love watching them.
My usual complaint for shonen anime still stands, it feels like there is very little characterisation for the characters. You get some snippets here and there for Itadori, Fushiguro and Kugisaka but not enough.

The whole Curse Womb arc felt a bit pointless but I understand it's all about the power creep of the bad guys.

I eagerly await the next season.
