Heroes in Crisis is straight up doodoo but none of the sites want to talk about that and keep freaking out over silly accusations of "sexualization".

How tf was the Batgirl page sexualized? She's literally just showing someone her gunshot scars, if you think that's sexy it says more about you than anything lmao.

I really miss old Harley and Babs too. All babs seems to do in these books is bitch about Bruce, and Harley is nothing more than a more annoying Deadpool these days, with just about the same amount of plot armor.

It's been miles better than most of Marvel's current line, but there was some stuff in the last issue that had me smh.

Yeah I saw that, but I also saw it coming a mile away. Seriously
"You get to get mad and smash everything and everyone loves you because you're an educated white man and that makes ME angry but I can't do anything cause I is dumb black girl"
. Like seriously? Just going to ignore the armies that pursued him, tried to kill him, pushed him into causing the destruction? You're just going to erase the hole Frankensteinian idea of judging the monster before finding out if it's a monster trope that defined Hulk for so long, just to
try and make social commentary about Bruce being an educated white man and try to claim that's why people forgave him?
And don't give me that outsider looking in bullshit, she is a reporter who interviewed multiple people in his life to find out that it's always some outside source why he becomes destructive. That no matter how much he tries to be a good guy, others judge him and force him to destroy. She even knows
that Tony shot him into space and that Dr. Strange has tried calming him and claim that under "white privilege".
When in truth they did that because when he is fully angry, he's nearly unstoppable and these were extreme measures. They forgive him after he destroys everything because they are aware that they are to blame, not Hulk. If she knew all of this, than there is no way she could logically make the argument that it was because of
white privilege.
It's forced social commentary that doesn't make sense no matter how you look at it.
"Because I is black girl, I can't get angry and destroy things because the world won't forgive me" Like most of the world doesn't forgive hulk? Also you can totally get angry and scream at people, nothing stopping you there.

So that's what's going on in Hulk world?

He just got revived because he's the Hulk, and found that an evil mysterious spirit has been possessing people via gamma radiation and making them see their worst fears. It's been passing through either random people or hulk villains. At the moment they are within it's world. There has been a black reporter going around looking for Hulk doing interviews of people she find to find out where he is going, and then when she catches up to him, gives him an SJW rant that doesn't work if you think about even for a second.

But, even with that blemish, the story has been really good. Weird as hell and unnecessarily dark, but really good.

Anyone here besides me read Beasts of Burden? I just finished the 4 part Wise Dogs and Eldritch Men and loved it.

If you haven’t read Beasts of Burden, I tell people it is like Hellboy, but with dogs. It has wonderfully dark and touching writing by Evan Dorkin, and beautiful art by Jill Thompson. I highly recommend it.

Recommend some trade paperbacks for a 7-year-old who already likes Marvel and DC? The last comic I bought him was Super Mario Adventures and he's also received some of those bite-sized Spider Man comics that are a compilation of 3 or 4 comics.

He already enjoys superheroes so I'm asking for recommendations moreso to avoid the garbage.

Nu52, Pre-Rebirth Teen Titans is a good one. Super Sons is a really good one. If he likes Spider-man, go with that and Sideways.

Thanks! I'll give those a look.

Also, give Young Avengers a look, it was pretty good back in the day. Not sure if I can recommend many Marvel books other than Young Avengers and Spider-man. I'd say Ultimate Spider-man, but it can feel a bit dated.

Anybody else pick House of X and Power of X by Hickman? Outside of the cartoon, I don’t consider myself an X-men fan, but these books have their books in me.

I bought the March 2019 issue of Dylan Dog when I was in Italy this year but unfortunately I can't read it. I bought it for the novelty and how popular it is.

I'm reading Doomsday Clock, House of X & Power of X right now. Also gonna read that Black Label Frank Miller Batman book.

House of and Power of X are definitely different from mainstream X-men Comics reading. I honestly didn't see the fact that
Moira Mactaggert is a mutant now. I mean, out of all the blander characters in the X-men supporting character roster, she wasn't one I suspect they would pop an X-gene into. I mean they did wait a long ass time considering her character debuted 44 years ago.

For the first time in quite a long time, an X-men comic managed to surprise me a good deal.
Also her power of reincarnation and total recall of all past incarnations and memories is like a double edged sword of extremely useful, in its own ways extremely powerful, and at the same time could agonizingly painful and drive her insane after say, even 6-7 lifetimes. The human brain as we know it, may have a limited amount of "storage", so after 200 to upwards of 700 years, depending on how long she lives, that brain hard drive might get full to the brink of breakage. Thankfully she has that get out of hell free card of dying before her reincarnation power manifesting and restarting the cycle again.

Still, all of the ever growing skills, knowledge, secrets, capabilities and plain old experience she gains with each passing lifetime, she could easily set herself up to being one of the most powerful beings, or outright most powerful being on the planet including cosmic entities...because c'mon. Reed Richards alone has at least two victories against Galactus alone.

Yes he has god like genius, super stretchy powers, 3 legs(( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ) and Dr. Doom himself is super jealous of Richards. That last one alone is probably like, one of the best feats in comic book history, and is good enough reason why cosmic beings and abstracts sweat buckets when his name is mentioned, but again, with Moira's powers, she could make all of what Reed is and has never happen. She got the almighty rewind button upon death.

I'm enjoying it immensely despite the somewhat repetitious nature of the surprise mutant reveal and the fact that the main goal right now seems to be the must be stopped "at all costs"
creation of Nimrod form the very start, who was at one time, was barely an A-Tier X-men villain, now thrust into one of their most dangerous, which seems kind of lame, but given how dangerous they make him out to be, it makes for a really good thing to get done.

The story telling is brisk and nicely paced though. This is one of those things they knew they couldn't drag out for 50 comics. I eagerly await the upcoming issues of both series, and everything up to and including the finale.

Also, Bro moment of the series so far (Powers of X #3 spoiler)
Yes he has ulterior motives up the ass such as his own self survival in future Moira Timelines, but Apocalypse sacrificing himself for Wolverine to go through the portal and reset everything again wasn't something I was expecting. I mean Apoc knew everything was going to shit and nothing was worth saving. Even with knowing all of this, him making the choice to die by fighting off Nimrod as Wolverine goes through, lie by saying he would be right behind him, and pay the ultimate price with his life instead of doing things the regular Apoc way of saying fuck it and going through leaving wolverine die a horrid death by a squad of Nimrods ALMOST feels like he acts in a way he never does. It ALMOST make you seem like he cares about Wolverine in some genuine...strange but still genuine way, and maybe he does, but c'moooon. He already knows the timeline will reset to Moira's birth, and he gets another chance of his survival of the fittest coming to fruition, etc. etc. , it was still pretty cool to see Apocalypse *care about someone* and *sacrifice *himself for someone else.

I don't think so. I doubt that House of and Powers of X will be on unlimited any time soon given that the run just started back in late July. From what i remember of Marvel unlimited, it takes quite some time for newer series to start trickling in after the initial publication date. I hope they've changed and sped up the release windows given the fact that people don't like spending $3-$4 for a single comic all that much, and given the fact that there are a total of 12 main issues for the whole arc, that's quite the chunk of cheddah for a dozen comics.

Yeah, I used to buy at least 10 comics a week between 2011 and 2015, then 3-4 comics a week until last year. These days I want my physical purchases to go towards TPB's and HC's. It's not feasible purchasing floppies and the collected editions. Floppies also take up a hell of a lot of space when you are getting at least 10 a week.

Is there seriously no community for comics on GAF at all?
Does anyone here read comics or manga regularily?
Does anyone collect singles/TPB's/omnis/tankobons regularly?

I have started reading comics last year. By comics, I mean the "US" comics (in french we used the English term "comics" for US comics only, otherwise it's "Bande dessinée" which I red quite a bit as a kid). I read only DC and Marvel stuff for now.

I got some classic from Batman (Year One, Long Halloween, Dark Victory, Dark knight Return, The Killing Joke and the NEW 52 run.)
I started the Aaron's Thor run and enjoyed it quite a lot at the beginning but I lost interest in the middle of the Mighty Thor run.

I got Astonishing X-men and another famous one but don't remember the name (All new mutants ?)

Then I am now in the new Dawn of X runs. I am buying the collection edition of each series. I just received New Mutants and Fallen Angel (I heard it's not good but wanted to see by myself) and read all the others first series till issue 6.
It's entertaining but I am still a bit lost by the way comics story works (different parallel run that you don't necessarily need to read but they eventually crossing over each others...).
I mainly enjoy comics for their art. There is some good story here and there but overall nothing mind blowing for me.

I am interested in the DC Dark Nights : Death Metal and the following Future State issues.

I only buy collected edition. It's easier to store for me.

I also red some manga as a teen (Naruto, Bleach, Kenshin, Hunter X Hunter, Shaman King, Kyo Samurai deeper...).
I am now following One Piece and I love it. And I should restart Attack on Titans that I dropped few years ago despite liking it.

All good books in your selection.

I recently started reading Jason Aaron's Thor again and,I'm back up to where I was the last time I read. Issue 6 of Mighty Thor, I'm pretty excited about the idea of the War of the Realms. If I can track that Omnibus down I'll be very happy.
I only buy hardcovers myself, no TPBs at the moment until I catch up on OHCs and omnis. Primarily Marvel but I want DC stuff too. I jumped back into comics in 2011 so New 52 is my jam 100%.

I use Marvel Unlimited as well, not sure if that's in your country but it's great if you can use it. I've been reading through all the silver age stuff over the last few years.

If you can get it I suggest checking out Wolverine and the X-Men, it's also written by Jason Aaron and is fun.

Manga wise I'm reading Assassination ClassrOom, up to volume 8 and it's just OK.

Hopefully some sort of community can start up here. Would be nice.

I have been so let down by Hickman’s X-men run. The only marvel comic I am really loving right now is the Ultraman comic by Kyle Higgins.
Image and Boom have been putting out some great books. I really like the current Power Rangers run, Radiant Black, and Department of Truth.

I read the first 6 issues of All New Wolverine by Tom Taylor yesterday. Really enjoyed the first story arc. End of issue 6 introduces the antagonist behind the scenes who I assume has been a part of Laura's life in the past, because I have no idea who they are.

I also read Fantastic Four #107 to #113, there was an angry Thing, the introduction of Nega-Man, the introduction of Overmind and a Thing vs Hulk battle. Pretty cool issues, Stan Lee is still writing but John Buscema has taken over art duties. They also introduced Agatha Harkness' witch powers.

I really want to read Power Rangers but I think the first hardcovers are out of print, which is annoying. I'll have to resort to digital issues.

Also.

The Matt Fraction Thor, Young Avengers and War of the Realms omnis are mine. Jason Aaron Thor is a maybe because I have been getting the OHCs. Also Annihilation is getting a reprint if anyone wants to jump on that.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
I picked this up and read the first couple of chapters last night:

So far, really great. I know I'm behind the times. I heard the first 100 chapters are good, then it kinda goes downhill after that, am I remembering that right?

I have the first 3 OHCs. After I finish of 4 Deadpool OHCs and my Velvet OHC I'm going to get stuck into my TMNT books. If the first 3 OHCs are great I'll keep buying them until I'm caught up.

good recommendations.

I have about 500 collected editions between trades, hardcovers, oversized hard covers, omnibus and Absolute editions I also have a large digital collection between Comixology and scans.

I stopped buying collected editions as much because I mostly have what I want and I am running out of room to store them. Also I have tons I havent even read yet.

Currently reading Scalped right now. Really good!

I finished the first OHC of Deadpool by Posehn and Duggan, this is actually my second read through of the series. I'm unable compare it to the Daniel Way or Joe Kelly runs of Deadpool yet as I haven't read them. I know people that have read those runs who didn't enjoy this run, I find the Posehn/Duggan run very funny and I like the secondary characters.

The first 6 issues deal with resurrected president zombies who try to take over the world. I am pretty positive that there are American political jokes that go right over my head but there was still enough funny content in there. Issue 7 is a fake flashback story to the 80's which leads into #8-12 where Deadpool has to kill 4 people for a demon named Vetis.

The first 6 issues have some cool art from Tony Moore.

Then Mike Hawthorn takes over in #8 and it's just no where near as good.

Tons of good stuff. Some of the recs above are highly recommended.

I would start with Crisis on Infinite Earths which reset the DCU and led into the Byrne Superman run and the very long running Flash run with Wally West Flash.

Watchmen also is a must read.

Frank Miller Daredevil

Walt Simonson Thor

Frank Miller Wolverine

Dark Knight Returns

Sin City (yes there is a lot of Frank Miller here lol)

Batman Year One

Green Arrow Longbow Hunters

Miracleman/Marvelman (Alan Moore)

Claremont X-Men run

Alan Moore top 10 (late 90s to early 2000s)

V for Vendetta

Hellblazer (not super hero but one of my favorites)

Sure no problem. There are tons more too. 90s it is honestly tougher, especially early to mid. it starts getting better only at the end of the 90s into the early 2000s. That being said there is still a lot of good things to read. I have read most of what I recommended but still a couple things on there i haven't ready yet like Longbow Hunters.

But that is some stuff to get started with along with the stuff above.

Read through OHC 2 of the Posehn and Duggan Deadpool run, it contains #13-25. IMO not a lot of stand out art in this issue but the funnies kept coming.

Issue 13 is another fake old issue from the 70's, Deadpool teams up with Luke Cage and Iron Fist to fight the White Man, this leadds into issue 14 which is a modern day story and White Man tries to get revenge on them. Lots of racial jokes ensue. Art was done by Scott Kobish in both issues.

Issue 15-19 was easily the best part of the book, a 5 part story arc called The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. The story is set in North Korea and explores Deadpools past, much more serious in tone. Art by Declan Shalvey which I really liked and thought set the tone for the story.

Issue 20 was yes another flashback story which was boring.
Issue 21-25 is a Deadpool vs SHIELD story arc, started off OK but finished strong.
Still enjoying this run quite a lot even with the dips in quality.

Marvel Unlimited
Astonishing Tales (1970) #6-7 B Story: Absolutely terrible story about Dr Doom drilling to Wakanda to steal vibranium. Bleh.
Avengers (1963) #89-92: Basically deals with separating Rick from Mar-Vell, not a very good story. I hope it leads into some interesting Kree/Skull war stuff though.

I have heard good things about Scalped but have never heard what it's actually about. I hope DC will reprint the deluxe hardcovers one day but chances look slim, seems like they cancelled reprints for book 4 and 5 back in 2018. Either there was still too much stock of these books on shelves at book stores or the reprints of book 1-3 didn't sell well.

Scalped is about an American Indian FBI agent who goes undercover at the reservation where he grew up to try and take down a local mob boss who used to be in a radical American Indian rights/freedom movement with the FBI Agent's mother in the 70s.

Someday its going to be adapted into a fucking awesome TV show. I know they tried one pilot but it didn't get picked up so it must have sucked. But I am happy I read it in comic form first there are some things that wont translate to TV.

My only complaint really is some of the fill in artists aren't up to Guerra's level but when doing a long series what else can you do, fill in artists are necessary. Normally they kept the fill in artists to some side stories about different characters on the reservation or other things like that, not really the main plot stories but some of those one shot side stories were great as well so it would have been awesome if Guerra could have done the whole thing but its not really reasonable.

I have the full 5 volume Deluxe hardcover run which I bought a while ago on sale so that was nice. They will probably do a 1/2 volume Omni at some point

Scalped sounds interesting, not at all what I expected it to be. I might have to check it out on Comixology for now.

I had a random recommendation on Youtube about new Image books and since I hadn't looked at recent books I thought I'd check the video out. Turned out there were 2 videos.

I have heard from multiple places that Cross Over and Ultra Mega books are good though.
Cross Over is from Donny Cates and involves a Crisis type event actually happening within our reality.
Ultra Mega is about people turning into Kaiju's.

Ultra Mega has been great so far. If you like kaijus I recommend Murder Falcon. That was my absolute favorite comics of 2019.

An image comic people need to be reading is Robert Kirkman’s new book Fire Power. It is so fast and exciting.

Thank you, I had never heard of Murder Falcon. Added it to my comixology wishlist. It's short too so may buy it on pay day.
