Tribes of Midgard Announced for PS5 and PC, Published by Gearbox

Didn't see a thread in the search, sorry if I missed it

As you explore the world and gather different resources, it’ll be possible to craft new weapons, discover artifacts, assault enemy camps and much more. You’ll want to craft some sturdy defenses as well, since the village holds the mythical Seed of Yggdrasil that needs to be protected from the forces of Hel at night. Eventually, you’ll battle large Giants and try to stop Ragnarok.

With support for up to 10 players in co-op, a variety of foes and some nice-looking overhead combat, Tribes of Midgard is certainly a welcome surprise. It releases in 2021 for PS5 and PC (via Steam). Stay tuned for more details and updates in the coming year

This is another one of those games like Little Devil Inside that may not get top billing but look really fun to me

I want to try it, but mp only. Apparently going solo doesn't work as the scaling is always set to multiple people.

I bought it but won’t be able to try it out until after work. The price was definitely right and the concept is intriguing.

I’ll post impressions this evening.

Please do. I'm on the fence with this one. Can't really trust reviewers anymore.

That should be a PS Plus PS5 or PS4 freebie...I'm interested but still waiting on some reviews and watching some streams.

It's probably too early to pass judgement on the game one way or another.

That said, I am-with a few reservations-enjoying myself. My criticism mostly rests on the lack of available resources when you join a game, making it almost impossible to progress without assistance. So trees are cut down, flint is already mined....sometimes there's just nothing anywhere and you run around naked hoping to avoid hostile NPCs. In a perfect world you'd use voice chat to request assistance, or check the chest in town to see if anyone dumped in resources, but sometimes you're simply SOL and bored to boot.

The graphics are clean on PS5. Haptic feedback is a nice touch and you can feel each footstep. Combat is very rogue-like if that makes sense. Not quite Diablo. The gameplay loop is fun: harvest, craft, fight by day; run back to town and defend at night.

You do NOT keep your armor and weapons game-to-game. This is a rogue-like, not Diablo. You do keep recipes for weapons and armor, though.

I dunno. I'm having fun, but how long will that fun last? Will I get my $20 out of it? Probably. It looks like the devs are planning Seasons, so they're in it for the long-haul. I'll stick around as long as I'm having fun.

I picked it up and played a few hours.

I've played this, Don't Starve, and Evolve as far as "survival" games go and all three run into the same problem imo.

They're efficiency racing games. If you're not doing the right things fast enough, the game just overpowers you. That makes the experience very one note.

I think the genre needs to fix that going forward.
