Resident Evil 4 HD Project - Progress Thread

The dedication and thoroughness of this project is completely insane.

I usually hate HD texture mods. They always look gaudy and completely incongruent with the look the game like. Like people taking high res photos and slapping them on low-poly models.

This one, though, man... you guys rocked it. Firmly in the "how I remember it looking" territory. Just great work.
It's a great achievement

Thank you guys! No prob!

New video and Info!

Wasnt there a recent rumour that Capcom were going to remake Resi Evil 4?, and if so, would that mean they would put a stop to this?.

I don't think they can, at least for a big chunk of it. A lot of the textures are technically original works, although I don't know what percentage are and aren't.

I don't think Capcom would mind though, becauses if you're happy with RE4 with HD textures you're happy with RE4 without HD textures and thus it doesn't really overlap with a remake. Also, a remake would be vastly different to the point that it wouldn't cannibalise sales. Remakes of 2 and 3 have shown us that they're no longer interested in REmake style remakes.

New update!

About Capcom and their "copyright issues"... well, I already knew they used unlicensed pictures from several sites, even personal blogs, because I found the sources, but I never thought they even used that book textures without permission! I even bought the book some time ago, and a colleague contacted the photographer and paid her for some of the pictures in their original HD resolution pictures to use in our projects. XDD
And we are not making profit with our projects, they are just fan mods. So, any textures that Capcom used and I found the original source and I'm using for this project could be considered fair use.
Even some of them are not online anymore and I had to use "Way Back Machine" to find them.

What's more, most of the textures in this project are based on pictures I took myself, or re-creations we did using the textures in texture.com and 3d.sk paying subscriptions regularly, or even paying for some extra pictures in other stock sites...

Impressive work, beautiful textures👌 lol if this were Nintendo they would update RE4 more like this, better textures, reworked geometry/models, shiny lightning/shaders, but keep the game exactly as you remembered: preserve the Resident Evil 4 experience, goofy VA and all. Nintendo made gameplay changes to Zelda but at most they would tweak QTE.

But thats NOT the Capcom way, they like to do full reimagining. RE4 REmake will rock the world when its revealed

Recently Capcom have ported RE4 like Nintendo ported the 3D Mario trilogy - 0 effort.

I agree with the point though, which is that RE4 only really needs a bit of a visual update for many people. Every update to this thread is one step closer to the day when we get to enjoy this. So close.

i was thinking more about their Zelda remasters for 3DS and Wii U wich were pretty good , actual redone geometry and animations but the games were 95%the same experience with some Qol changes.

for RE4 i cant even imagine how they would make it but getting over my dissapointment they are skipping Code Veronica :( RE4 should be amazing, the atmosphere is unlike any of the other action games,if they update it i wont even care about the gameplay lol, i guess they will make the game shorter

Imagine they teased the remake of CV by showing a remade version of the CGI video where she runs away from the guards and helicopter and drops the gun and catches it again. I used to watch that all the time when I was a boy.

i hope with all that money they make on RE4 Capcom funds CVX and RE1 over the shoulder REmakes 🤭( instead of going directly to 5 😳)

Progress summary says all but a couple of characters are complete. A albert_re4hd , are we close?! Will this get dropped like a nuke some time soon?

Imagine they complete this project and add it to steam workshop, nexusmods and all websites. The next day Capcom announced RE4 Remake and confirm leaks are real lmao

No hating, amazing work for just 2 people. Great job guys.

I would play them BOTH! Albert's version will be far more faithful to the OG and Capcom's would be a very pretty remake with enough new changes to make it feel different.

Yes, steller work! A albert_re4hd Can I ask, do you still recommend to play the game at 30fps like before? I see the video is at 30fps so I presume so but I'm wondering if you were able to fix the sped up animations like the minecart bit when playing at 60fps?

thank you guys!
I'm recording the videos again at 30fps (but 4K) mostly because I noticed some slowdowns while recording at 60fps (I'd say my HDD needs some maintenance XD)

But no, I don't have a fix for bad 60fps animations yet. But the DLL I mention in the video (with link in the video description) fixes those QTE while playing at 60fps that give the player half of the time to react compared to 30 fps. Maybe the minecart is one of those cases. That minecart always reachead a super speed at the end even at 30 fps, and maybe the problem is the QTE reaction time ¿?

Thanks for the reply Albo, you are a legend, I will be donating money to you on full release.

The DLL that gives you the proper time is really the most important thing so that sounds great, I played at 60fps last year and tbh the fire/alpha effects being 30fps didn't really bother me.

I used external v-sync and that was better than the in-game one, maybe that will help with frame drops.

Looking better than ever, and the DLL fixes are an unexpected treat. You can get into the nitty gritty once you go down that road

Can't wait, thanks for all your hard work Albert (and other people involved whose name I don't know), this is amazing work. I love the attention to detail fixing all the minor bugs.

I'd encourage everyone here to donate when they download the final release if they can, too much work to go unpaid. I assume there is no charge for the mod on steam?

Can I ask, did you incorporate both Xbox and PS button prompts or just the one kind? My brain works both ways but its nice to have the correct prompts when I'm playing with casual gamers who can't switch on the fly.

Oh wow, that's so insanely impressive. I can remember back to when this was first announced, seems like that was a decade ago, maybe longer?

I'll never actually play it cause I don't have RE4 on PC but I'll definitely check some footage out via YouTube.

I got my Steam copy ready! Now if only this could be ported to the Wii version so I could play it with Wiimote control in Dolphin.

This is easily my most anticipated release of 2022. I'm going to donate once I have this on my computer. I'm beyond excited to be finally playing this. I have followed the development for what feels like an eternity. I can only imagine how this would be with WiiMote controls.

Well done to the team. What a fantastic job they've done.

What kind of PC is needed to run at constant 60fps at 1080p with this mod? Will a Ryzen 2600 + GTX 1660 do the job?
I'm curious about that too. My desktop PC has a 2080 in it, so I'm not worried about it on performance, but it's currently on the way to Maine, so I'm stuck with the laptop for gaming for the next month or so.
