Allow me to discuss a few reasons why I think it's going to be BIG.

- Hands on previews point to the display looking bigger, dramatically brighter, crisper and more vivid
- I think Joe Casual will see an upgraded screen as a bigger upgrade than better specs as the screen is something they're familiar with and can immediately be seen
- It's only $50 more
- The Switch Lite, XSS and all gimped console SKU's don't seem to selling nearly as well as premium models
- The marketing is clear and to the point. Switch OLED. The premium model

It's pretty much the opposite approach of the Switch Lite, and I think its sales will correspond. Either way, it will be an interesting case study in the market.

At first I thought "no way", but in all honesty it doesn't matter anymore. Everything is going to be sold out. Everything is successful. Everyone is breaking record.
At the moment money is cheap. A lot of people have discovered scalping for them and things are going to be in a shortage anyway. It doesn't even matter if things are useful or needed.

I don't think the fundamentals matter a lot at the moment. So in my opinion : Yes the Switch OLED is going to sell a lot, which makes it financially succesful

I think it is going to be pretty minor compared to the normal Switch and the Light, mainly because it is more expensive.

Maybe in previous generations, but the Switch Lite is $100 cheaper than Switch and it is not selling a fraction as well. I think Nintendo is reading the current market well and the demand for premium SKU's.

Only by £50, though. I think the majority of consumers wouldn’t mind paying that little extra for a more refined, premium experience. As Marty mentioned, the Lite is £100 cheaper and is failing to sell compared to its predecessor. Nintendo knows what the consumer wants.

I don't think so, it's just a Switch, no need for update.

aka hopefully not

There's a stark difference between the lite and standard switch. Between the standard switch and Switch OLED.... not so much.

There'll be a decent boost in sales but nothing amazing I think. People on the fence are waiting for a cheaper Switch, not a costlier one.

Switch Lite isn't selling well because you can't play it on a TV which defeats the whole purpose of the Switch.

I doubt most people will care honestly. The Switch does not sell based on how nice things look on it.

I'm not so sure.

The Switch device itself is a fantastically marketed from its name, all the way to the clicking sound it makes in the adverts. It's also a very good looking device. Switch OLED is even prettier. I believe this plays a pivotal role in being the vessel in which Nintendo games are enjoyed... whereas something as cumbersome and poorly marketed as the Wii U for instance, was a deterrent.

Is there enough value for people beyond early adopters and tech enthusiasts to upgrade? Not really. Plus, those people are likely to have one eye on the Switch 2 which although not announced can't be that far out really. The switch has sold so much as well it's not a straight choice of picking one or another. It's either buy the new model outright, or trade in the old one and buy the revision.

Having said that, it will still sell decently.

Yes. The Switch is still doing extremely well, and I suspect new users will opt for the newer version. Just like they did with all of Nintendo's handhelds. And then you'll have some people who already own the Switch getting the upgrade as well.

50 bucks more expensive for bigger bezel less OLED screen, better stand and twice the storage? Seems like great deal for me. Maybe Switch is overpriced in the first place, but if you are buying new one - it's obvious choice.

Nah, I said how things look on it, as in the visual fidelity. The Switch sells because of the software, it's the only place people are going to play Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, Pokémon, Zelda legitimately. The new Pokémon is like a decade behind visually, and OLED won't change that, but it won't matter, it'll still sell 16,000,000 copies.

Seldom has visual fidelity a console war won.

My thinking, as stated in the OP, is that Joe Casual will see a big new shiny screen as a bigger upgrade than specs. We shall see.

I hope the casual crowd realize it's a cash grab for Docked Switch owners and Switch owners in general, it'll only benefit Switch Lite and people who never owned a Switch. I just want a smooth 1080 60fps and HDR for the next model. Hopefully Steam Deck wakes Nintendo up and they release a real successor soon

I just don't think Steam Deck will be in the same stratosphere as Switch to make any sort of impact. They're shipping what? A few hundred K in December? Nintendo will sell 10 million Switch's in the same month.

True, the Switch is on pace to being Nintendo's most successful console ever. I mostly meant media outlets and hands on people to promote the hell out of Steam Deck to get the suits at Nintendo's attention

Like "Oh, look at that, maybe we should make more powerful hardware". Because we all know Nintendo lives under rock and hopefully Valve just inspire them to make a more powerful Switch in the near future

It's coming too late in the gen and is too minor an upgrade to outsell the original SKU or anything, but I do think the naysayers will be disappointed. I'd put it in the same bracket as the DSi rather than the DS Lite--late in gen and a significant upgrade for only some use-cases. It probably won't achieve mass-market recognition before the successor's out (unless Nintendo is planning a blowout ad campaign for the holiday).

It will sell less Lifetime than the Switch Lite Lifetime.

But at some point its the only Switch Switch available on shelf ajd therefor will sell regardless

I think it will do fine. I'd even consider upgrading from my normal OG switch just for the additional battery life and bigger screen.

There is no significant upgrade. It is basically QoL updates, nothing more than that.

It will do okay.

I don't think those outside of the hardcore fanbase will buy a new switch just for the oled screen. For those who don't have a switch yet or need to replace an old one for whatever reason, the upgrades are well worth the extra 50$.

If it sells, its because of blind fanboys.

Normal people and casual don't have a valid reason to spend more on a more expansive console with little difference. And the ones who gonna buy a Switch for a first time will ask "well, does this old model play Switch games?Which one is cheaper?".

it might sell better to new buyers but I doubt it'll lead to many upgrades

it's not just $50 more for people that already own a Switch after all, at GameStop they apparently are giving $175 for a Switch right now so you'd then have to spend another $175 + tax to get the OLED model

I do think the diehards will snatch it up though but just have a feeling it'll sell worse then the Lite in the long run, it doesn't provide as good of a reason to upgrade as the PS4 Pro or Xbox One X did & neither of those mid-gen upgrade models set the world on fire either

it's a Switch so it'll sell quite well no matter how much people on the internet piss and moan. It's not aimed at people who already have Switch. If you have a Switch then Nintendo don't expect you to upgrade. Sure, alright, they'd LOVE you to buy it but if you do that's just a bonus. Keep your Switch and enjoy it. This model is for anyone who is in the market to get a new Switch... that means if your Switch is broken or you have never bought a Switch. Stop acting so god damn fucking entitled.

it's basically the same as the 2019 revision except, y'know, a much better revision. i don't remember people being pissed about that! i mean, it was basically the same model as the one that was already out.... except it had a more efficient CPU. that's it. it was marketed as the "improved battery" model but even the battery was the same as the 2017 Switch. the new CPU just didn't suck as much power so the battery lasted longer. That model didn't have a bigger/better screen quality with less bezel. That model didn't have improved speakers. That model's dock didn't have a built in ethernet port. That model didn't have a bigger/better stand. That model kept 32GB internal storage instead of doubling it to 64GB.

Let's face it, the only reason people are mad about this new model is cause it's NOT a Switch Pro and because Nintendo put the price up by ~9.7% which I think is fair considering you get bigger/better screen. better speakers. built in ethernet port. better stand. double internal storage. I'd get the rage if the 2017 Switch had a ~9.7% price increase and all you got was a more efficient CPU that gave better battery life...

Remember, Nintendo never officially announced or promised us a Switch Pro model. Y'all chose to believe in RUMORS on the INTERNET. Take your rage out on Nintendo all you want but it's your own stupid fault if you're disappointed.

Mario burned into the display 24/7 is a big plus.

Nah thats just the internet nerds. I'm thinking in terms of casuals and casual gamers won't give a shit about OLED or even know what it is in most cases. It's a very uninspired product.
Yes I was being sarcastic. Nintendo system sales seem to be inversely proportional to the level of nerd rage about its lack of power.

NO PAIN TRANCE CONTINUE
I'm happy this will be my first Switch.

Last Nintendo console I had was the Wii.

If you prefer playing on your TV I'd say there's no difference. Otherwise be prepared to deal with the same very disappointing (lack off) ergonomics and hardware issues like stick drift and lack of a real dpad.

I don't get it; sure an OLED screen is awesome but the same fundamental issues that are the most if not only prevalent when you're playing handheld still remain... And yet and OLED version is only appetizing to those that play handheld only, or rather most of the time..

Why bother? Sigh.. Nintendo..

When you think about Nintendo's role in Videogames that's irreplaceable and their incompetence at the same time
