I didn't really dig the CGI, and I don't like how their harmonizing is waayyy down in the mix during the chorus... i dunno about the music, don't like this genre enough to really know

i think the quality is quite good. i've seen much worse. i wouldn't call myself an ABBA fan but i do like their music. i just mean i don't listen to them. i did grow up listening to their music cause my mum had them on but that's it. of course i've heard their songs over the years but the last time i intentionally listened to them must've been 20-25 years ago.

the CGI is a little uncanny now i've watched it again but if i didn't know any better the first time i seen it i'd have thought that was the real members lol. anyway, the whole thing is kinda cool and reasonable. never really been a fan of making a CGI show of artists especially when it happens after they die and is usually a cash grab by the estate.

but none of the members of ABBA are dead and it's something they've agreed to do as a group. plus, they are aged 71-76 so you can't really expect them to go out and tour. i know there are bands out there still going in their 70's (Rolling Stones) but they've been at that for years. ABBA haven't been around for decades. I doubt they want to go out and tour at their age after all these years. it's awesome they've worked on a new album and of course they will want fans to experience it live (or as live as it can be) so this probably the best option for them to do that.

Man I've been listening to their Thank You For The Music album on Spotify, it's kinda insane how many bangers are on there.

It's a 4-CD album and I honestly think 80% were top 5 hits. Absolutely insane.

Timeless, too! Even with those 70's vibes they're still incredibly catchy with an immaculate composition. A lot of tracks are just technically incredibly well done. I honestly feel ABBA is on par with Michael Jackson and Queen in terms of sheer quality.

That's pretty fucking amazing. If I heard that song on the radio I would never have guessed it was new. It fits seamlessly with their old stuff, which is a major achievement on it's own. How many artists have come back 40 yrs later and done this? I can't think of any. Hell, how many have comeback 10 yrs later and managed to recapture the sound of their glory days. Not many. Judging the video. It looks great. Obviously I can see the effects and it looks a bit strange, but in a concert people wouldn't be close enough to see the odd ticks. I expect Abba fans minds would be blown watching that live.

Should come with a massive dose of insulin just to set you straight should you play it,.

The CGI is bad. Some games look better.
Clearly they had a limited budget. They even had to use lighting to try obscure how bad it looks.
Would have been better using deepfake tech.
The song is alright though.

Don't think so. ABBA worth is about a billion, plus they would have investors. The interview said they had about 1000 people working on this.

Half the video is just lights moving about, wasn't sure if I was watching a music video or booting up a console.

Just realised what a weird name "abba" is for a band .. like.. i can't think of any other bands with names that are just 4 initials (that's what ABBA is, right?), AC/DC nah, REM nah... Who thought it would be a good idea to make a name that sounds like a baby/drunk person who is about to utter a sentence starting with "but...".. ABBA to me, as a name, has connotations of cool and angular creativity.. like OMA... but like they were a lovely little harmony-based hippie-cum-disco folk'y quartet... Abba to me feels like it belongs to a band like Kraftwerk...

Everybody keeps saying that it looks horrible, but can anybody point me to any CG that looks better?
Not saying there isn't, but I can't really recall anything.
Perhaps I'm just out of the loop on that stuff or something.

Guys ILM is a great VFX company, the question is how much you gonna pay them to do the CGI. They can "de-uncanny valley" their CGI humans, but it'll cost a lot of dough.
And in many cases, there's a gap between the client's expectations and their budget (i.e. how much they're willing to pay for the CGI).

No one is confused by this, ILM like any company has it’s A and B teams (and interns that are assigned shit that’s passed off as real work). We’re all just surprised a group as rich as ABBA would be given the B team.
