All pre-order details for this awe-inspiring continuation of Aloy’s journey, coming February 18 2022.

Thursday was to be a celebration of Horizon Forbidden West and the amazing team at Guerrilla working to deliver it on February 18, 2022. However, it’s abundantly clear that the offerings we confirmed in our pre-order kickoff missed the mark.
Last year we made a commitment to deliver free upgrades for our cross-gen launch titles, which included Horizon Forbidden West. While the pandemic’s profound impact pushed Forbidden West out of the launch window we initially envisioned, we will stand by our offer: Players who purchase Horizon Forbidden West on PlayStation 4 will be able to upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version for free.
I also want to confirm today that moving forward, PlayStation first-party exclusive cross-gen titles (newly releasing on PS4 & PS5)–both digital and physical*–will offer a $10 USD digital upgrade option from PS4 to PS5. This will apply to the next God of War and Gran Turismo 7, and any other exclusive cross-gen PS4 & PS5 title published by Sony Interactive Entertainment.
— Jim Ryan, President & CEO, Sony Interactive Entertainment

*To upgrade an eligible PS4 game on disc to the digital PS5 version, you will need a PS5 console with a disc drive. PS4 game discs can’t be used with the PlayStation®5 Digital Edition.

Horizon Forbidden West is coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles on February 18, 2022! We were ecstatic to finally be able to share the release date with you last week during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, and to see everyone’s reactions to our news.
Pre-orders for the game are available now across the globe, so we wanted to share more details about the various editions that you can get your hands on.

I'm confused... Is it free or not?

Where are those clowns who claimed.....''Is iT rElEaSe TiTle ?'' to justify sony's greediness .
I mean that WAS their stance obviously before the backlash and back pedaling. It wasn't a release title so they weren't adhering to the policy. Still greedy and this is a good move but shouldn't have been a problem to begin with

Good on them giving horizon for free as promised. But future titles still have a $10 tax, seriously? Why?

There is NO tax for "next gen" on PC or Xbox games studios.
they're obviously set on $70 for next-gen, honestly I don't think there would have been nearly as much backlash over Horizon if the had the $10 upgrade from the start but it's good they've gone & made the upgrade free instead

instead they tried to pull what EA & 2K have started with only the more expensive deluxe editions including both versions

They dont owe you anything and you dont have to buy anything, 10 bucks for a proper upgrade is more than fair, sonys cross gen titles look proper this isnt like halo infinite reveal where the game looks clearly last gen, also two different business models.

Amazing they did not foresee the backlash. At least they did the right thing now.
I am "ok" with PS5 version being $10 more because they announced their PS5 games would cost that. That said, I am still to buy a PS5 game not on sale.

They didn't want the release to be tainted. It is sort of the first major triple AAA release of the PS5 era and they want it to go well

Go Go Neo Rangers!
$70 price is still unjustified in my opinion but good on them for making it right. I really only expected them to simply make a $10 upgrade path. Them giving it away for free is a nice bonus.

That's because xbox next gen titles don't have as many upgradable components.

In the example, Horizon, they literally have more foliage, and more coral and underwater is more detailed - i expect God of War will be like that too, not sure what GT will bring in that regard tho.

its not just and FPS or res boost like most Xbox games.

That's also why they are making all their new games (xbox) exclusive to next gen so they can avoid what sony is doing. It's easy to do when you have half the user base Sony has on last gen consoles.

Wow. Talk about a 180.

It should had been free from the get go as per Sony's statement last year. Let's face it they tried to sneak it in hoping nobody would notice a Sony blog from a year ago.

A few things:

- Just buy the PS4 edition and save $10. Upgrade is claimed to be free now. If you are a day one gamer, I'd lock in a preorder now for $60 because they might just jack up the PS4 game to $70 so it's the same thing

- As a reminder, God of War confirmed cross gen

They did the right thing, good on them for admitting the mistake. Looks like this will be the last crossgen game that’s given a free upgrade PS4-to-PS5.

No real reason not to get the PS4 version now.
