Playstation acquires Firesprite

Report me if I continue to console war

Didn't Hulst and Ryan said they are not in arms race with Microsoft few weeks ago?
Housemarque, Nixees, maybe Bluepoint and now Firespite :D

It sure as shit looks like arms race to me

They are absolutely in a arms race. Both companies know that games are the biggest driving factor in the gaming platform business.

Moving goalposts already?

Because Ryan and Hulst told us bedtime stories about "organic growth" :messenger_tears_of_joy:
It kinda is true, thus far. The candidates have had a long relationship with Sony Computer, for the most part. HM was making exclusives. Firesprite is made of ex-Liverpool developers and worked mainly on PS VR.
PS Studios create their own IPs, Xbox bought a dozen of them. Both are viable strategies, mind you, and business is business, but the former option is what I would call organic.

Firesprite
Firewalk
Haven
Naughty Dog Multiplayer Team
Guerilla Games Team 2
Deviation
Polyphony

That's a ton of multiplayer studios playing games. I don't mind multiplayer if it's like Wipeout, Gran Turismo of even a fighting games. But out of the above atleast 4 are shooters which I'm not a fan of personally.
Firewalk and Haven are not Playstation studios

Yeah, people who are bitching on Firesprite in this thread doesn't seem to know what they're working on. They are an extremely versatile and huge studio (because at 250 people they are bigger than the majority of PS Studios) working on a story-driven adventure game (think Until Dawn, Detroit), a multiplayer shooter project and an Horizon VR game - and as a side note, I'm under the suspicion that all three titles are being worked on in partnership with Guerrilla Games.

You're shitting on Bluepoint now?
Relax the cacks Bryan.

Nah, Bluepoint are good.

Haven is totally unproven and need to release something.

However I'd like something beyond a remake studio and a fledgling studio to be added to the roster, something with actual valuable IP's.

Horizon VR game? Where was this mentioned?
i was not aware of that waynes world GIF

I'll be honest, although I knew of their games and obviously their long history with Sony I had no idea that they were that large at over 250 employees. They've never actually not been a part of PlayStation since they were created really. It's one of those acquisitions like Insomniac and Housemarque in that it doesn't really make a hell of a lot of sense not to secure them as you're working so closely with them and for so long.
Perhaps surprisingly, both Insomniac and Housemarque have created more games that weren't released on PlayStation than Firesprite.

Building up for gamepass service?????

People love to ignore PSnow for whatever reason. It has existed since 2014. There’s nothing for Sony to contend to. They already have a streaming and download service.
I see it as a competitor but I don't know if it is a proper competitor to GamePass until Sony commits a release schedule for first party games to that service.

Didn't get any numbers in terms of the cost, did we?

It is in the Rare size of acquisition and 2x Ninja Theory in terms of employees

What did they do on Star Citizen.....besides not release anything?

For those that might not know, they are mostly working on the Theatres of War game mode for Star Citizen. shorturl.at/gkABS. It is still being worked on, hopefully. Theatres of War is a Battlefield like experience.

Release Bluepoint on the back catalogue of Sony IP. There is a lot of quality there. Bethesda was bought as MS First Party IP isn't as deep as Sony's.

Of the PS partnerships currently announced, there won't be attempts to buy them until they are proven, just like previous studios.

It takes time, no need to buy SE as the main games are tied to PS (see FFXVI) so no need to buy the lot if they are open to exclusives with the big guns.

I can't see Konami selling but I'd love to see their IP licenced out for Sony to work on.

Capcom should have been bought before they turned things around. More expensive now and better off keeping a partnership between the two. Of the lot, that's the dream studio.

Even if you want the big publisher bought, I'm okay with this acquisition. If Sony buy too much too quickly, they could mismanage the studios.

I wasn't aware they were that big. I'm curious to know what this multiplayer title is that they supposedly have in development. It feels like I should be able to finally get my hands on a PS5 soon.

I'd be happy with just Kadokawa (From), Remedy or IOI. Even Arc System Works....
