People always want the “showcase of dreams” and end up with a fairly balanced and well done presentation, then leave disappointed.

At some point, it’s less about the showcases and more about unrealistic expectations.
Keep in mind Sony only released one game worth mentioning in 2021, Ratchet.

They didn't do an E3 so this was their big show. How many games coming out next year are you interested?

Regarding your first point, that’s entirely subjective.

As for your question, um… plenty?

What games? They didn't announced anything today, all the games showed were previously known.
You think you’re making sense, and it’s adorable. Because no, not all of the games shown today were previously known.

Like I said, according to any serious metric.

If you're going to start counting every shit game that comes out then you are not serious.
Apparently, Returnal, a game with an 85 average on Metacritic, doesn’t count according to you. Sounds to me like you’ve confused “serious metric” with your personal (and very subjective) opinion.

Or course Returnal doesn't count. That's an indie game, it doesn't matter how much you try to deny it.

Lots of "interesting" posts in this thread. Was the conference *exceptional*? No, but it was a solid showing, very little talking, whole lot of game after game after game. EVE was a genuine surprise, looks like Bayo's hotter, more badass sister. Wolverine is a megaton even without any gameplay, it's Insomniac, it's going to be bananas. Ghostwire looks absolutely dope af. KOTOR completely unexpected and especially good news for people like me who never played the original. God of War = 💯💯💯. GT looking tasty, Tchia is charming.

Still no ABANDONED, it's living up to it's name. Disappointed no news of the rumored MGS remake. Was hoping against hope for a Bloodborne 2 announcement. Would have preferred a Resistance Remastered Collection to the Uncharted stuff but whatever. Wish we had an update on FXVI.

Overall a solid conference, I was satisfied, funny how some people apparently thought PlayStation would show *every* game they have planned over the next 5 years lol. People would do well to stop judging things based on what they personally wanted versus what we were given. It's like playing a stone cold classic game but docking points off of it because you *wanted* it to do something different even though what it does is best in class, base your opinions on that reality.

I'm confused about something.

Why do some people have issues with black women?

I only remember seeing them in Forspoken and in the GoW trailer but I don't understand why that would be an issue.
It's not about having black women in a game more about having black women in a game in order to check a box.

Edited to add: The narrators demeanor makes me think that Kraven is the main villain and Venom isn't a bad guy at all in this game.
Yep that's what I thought. Venom could be a 3rd playable character. The dialogue implies that Peter and Miles got their asses kicked and venom show up for the rescue.

I actually really enjoyed it. Eve looks awesome, Alan wake passed me by the first time, now I definitely will play it. Ghost wire, God of war and GT7 also look incredible and GT7 is coming a lot sooner than I expected (for now. lol) Wolverine and Spiderman 2 sre a go for me.

I came away a happy camper.

Live from NeoGAF, it's Friday Night!
Well when those megatons drop, we'll all be squealing like little schoolgirls.

So yeah we did squeal but quite unexpected. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

A bunch of duds, and half the show felt like filler. Vampire, Deathloop, Rainbow Six.. Are you serious?

Missing in action:

- Bend Studio's supposed MiB game
- Kojima's new game which was supposed to be announced "quite soon" as stated many weeks ago
- The rumored Resistance remakes
- The rumored Infamous sequel
- The rumored FROM game for PS5
- Hogwart's Legacy
- Deathloop for the 534th time but no love for Kena
- Pragmata
- Twisted Metal

And in the realm of speculation going around for months:

- Metal Gear
- Silent Hill
- Castlevania

And not even a Bloodborne PS5 patch, fucking hell.

Rumors always have a chance to not appear. As for Pragmata, its pushed back to 2023. We'll likely see it next year if its not going to be another Deep Down.

I didn't even think about Kena not being there. Hopefully it still releases this month.

It will be get plenty of updates and improvements and it's clear Polyphony are putting a lot of time into the multiplayer.

Regardless you have three big exclusives coming in the Spring. And Alan Wake 😌.

Yeah, it's not like it's barren, but I think many of us (and probably at Microsoft) were expecting something more than what was shown.

I had the same reaction. I swear some of the gameplay was indistinguishable from GTSport.

I hope it was just the Youtube-compression, but it definitely looked rough.

PlayStation still keeps a lot of games hidden behind the curtains, and I think they do this on purpose after seeing yesterday's showcase.

People said 40 minutes is too short, but seeing the thing, it should have been 15 minutes. Cut from KOTOR directly to the first party stuff and you have not missed something significant.

Forspoken is an absolute nightmare, it looks also really boring, as if Square put two interns in charge of it. The main character looks also not appealing at all.

And please Sony if you have some money to burn, please put it in the game development or to charity and don’t spend it in such a overlong, complete pointless amd boring Woke commercial.

having re-watched all the trailers, I still think Ragnarok looks great and will be the most obvious GOTY contender next year. How come no release window even other than 2022?

But I just can't believe Sony has 0 current-gen only big first-party games planned to release in the SECOND year into PS5 lifecycle.

What the hell happened?

After watching the angry joe reactions I had to rethink my views on this showcase. As just a basic showcase it isn't that bad you had god of war gameplay, wolverine teaser reveal, spiderman 2 trailer, and several teaser reveals. My biggest issue I can see for me is that the games just didn't appeal to me.

A lot of what we saw was just more gameplay that we already knew about so it was like we already knew about this so show me something new to wow me.

This is a new thread worthy.
Outside of NeoGAF, the showcase was very well received. Literally no one is complaining about graphics.

And this is only PlayStation views, IGN uploads of the trailers have more views than the PlayStation ones.

I see many on here complain about PlayStation exclusive being movie like story driven games. But the thirst for these type of games outside of GAF is insane.

Dedicated message boards are bubbles.
First of all let's not pretend that all the opinions are genuine because there's a lot of console war going on so whatever is announced some people will try everything they can to downplay but there's also the wrong mentality of overhyping for weeks and believing to fake rumors (like SH and MGS remake).

The show was really good, they had a couple of big surprises with Wolverine and Kotor remake exclusive and they have proved they're building an incredibly strong first half of 2022 with Elden Ring, Horizon, GT7, Forspoken and Ghostwire Tokyo.
It was not meant to showcase all the games they're working on for the rest of the gen.

Look—this Showcase reminded me of another showcase that was completely slagged in by Sony fans during E3.
  • Buttload of future (2022-2024) titles? Yup.
  • Brand new games that we know little about? Yup.
  • Recent re-releases and multi-platform titles releasing in the near future on the console? Yup.
  • Little 2021 content and a dearth of known titles in development news? Yup
This is the Xbox E3 presser *all* *over* *again*. Only difference is that there’s no Gamepass, so many of these multplatform releases and re-releases people will have to pay $30-60 (U.S.) each to play instead of $10/mo. (U.S.).

If you’re a Sony fanboy that crapped all over Microsoft’s E3 and you’re saying Sony’s presentation was different and great…yeah you’ve got some serious mental issues going on.

Having said that, I’m really looking forward to the Wolverine game. I’m hoping they use a style similar to Arkham Knight for the hand to hand combat.

And I’m really not excited about Venom in Spider-Man 2. He’s too overused and there’s a much more interesting rogues gallery to use…

Also, something was wrong with the GT visuals. They didn’t look that great, and even in the 4K feed on YouTube, some of the reflections looked weird. Still will buy it as a stop-gap for Forza, but it didn’t look good.

I think it's good, pretty safe but good. Wolverine under insomniac is pretty interesting to me and might be a reason I would finally buy a ps5.

Please, don't cry. Instead name a single game that you think will look better than Horizon 2 and GoW at their release.

After this showing of Ragnarok, I will go ahead and double down (even though I meant it the first time) and say that Stalker 2, A Plague Tale Requiem, Starfield...shit--ANYTHING not cross-gen will look better.
Arkane isn't even known for cutting edge visuals but I wouldn't even be surprised if Redfall looks more striking, visually.

Cross-gen assets are cross-gen assets. Theres no getting around it.

The conference was surprisingly sloppy and had a lot of downtime for being only 40 minutes but... I think Sony's message is clear. They are not stopping these mega-blockbusters anytime soon and, if anything, they are upping their game.

Overall, I gave the conference a C which is one of the lowest since the PS5 unveiling last summer for me. There were too many games that we already knew about and what we saw about the new ones was extremely limited (Wolverine, SM2). Key takeaways for me:

  1. Pretty clear in general that "next gen" won't really start until 2023. That's when we'll see more "next gen exclusives " from both Microsoft and Sony with the first wave of UE5 and I/O accelerated games really start to create some new experiences. We'll have things like Gears 6, Spider Man 2, Wolverine and the next rounds from all of their internal studios really start to take advantage of what these new systems have to offer. In the meantime, 4K/60+ fps cross gen titles FTW
  2. The "cross gen" phase was extended due to Covid productions issues. Most of these games including Horizon, GOW, and GT7 were supposed to be launch window for PS5. GT7 in particular was PS5 only for most of it's development but it was added as a cross gen title pretty late. Developers are taking longer to finish these first wave of cross gen titles (Far Cry 6, Battlefield 2042, Halo Infinite etc) which in turn means that their new next gen engines are also going to take longer to develop pushing us firmly into 2023 timeframe before we see the fruits of that. That's kind of crazy when you think about it since the generation will be half done by then. But again, gaming in 2021 is quite different than it used to be so things like "enhanced" mid-cycle consoles and cross gen titles (both are means to help mitigate the time and financial costs involved in building games today) are the new normal.
  3. One of the things I was looking for in this conference was more info on what I will have to look forward to this holiday as a PS5 owner. Given that we already knew Horizon and GT7 was pushed to 2022, I thought Sony might have at least one more nugget in 2021 for PS5. But there was none. Essentially we just have Kena, Deathloop, and Death Stranding Director's Cut all of which will also be available on PC. Other titles like Solar Ash and Stray are coming to Playstation as console exclusives but were not mentioned at the conference (neither was Kena). There are literally 0 confirmed PS5 exclusives coming for the remainder of 2021 (who the hell knows what's going to happen with Abandoned?).
Yes there were lots of games that looked all too familiar because they were remakes, remasters, or cross gen titles and like I said the new stuff are still a ways off and we only got brief teasers for. I definitely didn't come away from that feeling excited about the immediate future of PS5. Definitely some missed opportunities there (and if another year goes by without any mention of Silent Hill from Sony, I'm rioting!)

But how do you actually determine that?
I guess it probably depends on the context of the game's story. In the corporate world it'd all be about a numbers game; they probably know their target audience quite well, so in order to please the target audience they'd probably know how many black, asian or other races characters to drop in to keep the buyers happy.

I guess Silent Hill rumors can finally fuck off. No FF 7 part 2 either sad ..
Has there ever been an E3 or one of these quarterly MS and Sony shows that actually blew people away with tons of leaks coming true? Probably never.

All these rumours come from click bait social media whores, as well as I suspect first party plants to get people to watch the show.
