Zavii 4k bluray steelbook

Pre-ordered this when it went live
Pretty damn awesome and also a bit surprising that they got Universal to release the steelbook in this way with that nice Matt Ferguson art. A very nice addition to the four previous 4K Carpenter steelbooks that where released by Studio Canal.
Hopefully we'll get Big Trouble and In the Mouth of Madness too 🤞🤞
(Disney and WB... So we'll see )

How is Justice League Snyder's Cut? I pre-ordered the steelbook version, but never saw it or the original release either.

I'm not huge into DC, so not sure if I should keep or cancel.

All the Afghanistan stuff had me in the mood for some movies based in the Middle East. Watched Zero Dark Thirty again last night and I know it's gotten some criticism by some for not being accurate or whatever, but it's a damn good film. Damn good. The raid at the end was done exceptionally well. There are some things in it I think are a little lame like overplaying the Maya being a badass woman in a man's world, but it's a great movie.

It's kind of a direct continuation of BvS though. Complete with opening the movie with Superman screaming in agony for five minutes.

Sure. And parts of it work, I like that it followed right up, opening with showing the impact of Superman's death. And as I think anyone would agree, it's definitely better than Whedon's weird Frankenstein'd version which does not work on any level.

But most of the Snyder cut is honestly not that interesting, or really entertaining IMO. And that's probably because, to me, Synder is mostly just a cinematic aesthete these days, pushing a certain look, a particular visual style, with a certain post-production process. He seems mostly disinterested in things like plot these days, and how that might impact the emotional reality of his characters.

A big part of the problem is the rushed kitchen-sink approach of the DCU overall, which narratively pales in comparison to the decade-plus-long planning & setup/payoff that is a major element to the narrative success of the MCU.

I believe they're all native 4K so you should be good to go, I've got Toby #2 and it looks fantastic.

31 discs means it's the same sets of The Hobbit and LOTR that were released last year + 1 bonus disc. That means, again, no appendices. They're the exact same discs as before. WB is shit.

The bonus disc includes the 26-minute Cannes 2001 reel and 90 min of cast reunions split into parts.

I bought Hollow Man on Blu-Ray. I found a sealed copy of the 2007 release. I think its very underrated movie. Its not as good as other Paul Verhoeven scifi movies but its still good. I hadn't seen the director's cut before.

Lol “it’s okay to sell Johnny shit again.”
hopefully we get the original Pirates in 4K, if Disney+ doesn’t rob us of that.

also, it’s time for another “tmnt 1990 on 4K” sigil.

Im usually like the biggest shill for lord of the rings collections, but this seems like a waste. I already own the blu ray collection with all the appendices, and i bought the 2 4k collections last year for that pristine iq. I feel like they should have put this out first? Then maybe more people would give a rats ass

on a brighter note, i had a big amazon 4k haul this week. Logan, godzilla vs kong, ghost busters, alien covenant, and prometheus. My 4k collection is getting pretty massive, closing in at almost 100 4k movies. I need a new bookshelf lol

I don't really have the space or funds to do anything special. I'm just rocking a Sony UBP-X800 and a Sony un49mu8000.

Hell, it will be years before I upgrade to a setup with Dolby Vision.

I finally watched my 4K UHD copy of the final Bourne movie, and man what a poor master. Most of the time I wasn't even sold that it was actually 4K. It looked very much like a game with a really low native resolution that is then checkerboard-rendered up to 4K.

Sadly, 4K can also mean just upscaled from blu-ray. Manufacturers should say if the it's remastered from the original source or not.

Probably all that Greengrass shaky cam. "You don't want to see this stunt and action, you just want to see this camera shake in the general direction of the plot."

GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY THE 4K STAR TREKS LOOK AMAZING

I just watched The Motion Picture and I feel like I've seen it for the first time. Holy fucking shit the colors look so normal for a 1979 movie.

Someone mentioned Pirates of the Caribbean earlier. Any word on those in 4k? I'd love to have the first 3. Everyone after that didn't happen.

I got the Snyder Cut 4K and watched the movie again. I cooled on it a bit. I think my extremely low expectations going into the initial viewing gave it a boost up.

There’s actually still a lot I enjoy. The epic scale that no one else is matching in quite the same way, and I actually dig the way Zack incorporates music into his visuals. So there is a lot to enjoy on an audio/visual level. It says something that I have stuck through this movie more than once.

but there are so many bits I wish I could just cut. Goofy, cornball lines and shots all over the place.

And while I was one of the few who was actually excited when Affleck was cast as Batman, and enjoyed his performance in BvS, the more time goes on, the less I appreciate it. There’s just a lack of humanity there. Some will say it’s part of the performance but I think it’s more wooden and shallow. Batman doesn’t really incorporate himself well into this version of the Justice League. He feels out of place, with the gadgets and vehicles feeling like some kind of overcompensation/justification.

shoutout to Wonder Woman though. I enjoy all of her acenes and thought Gal was pretty good in some of them.

After a repeat viewing of the trilogy I cooled on it a tad as well. Weirdly I ended up liking BVS a bit more than previously and the snyder cut a bit less.

I think I finally am understudying a bit more why people just despise Affleck as Batman, and while I still think he played "his" Batman well, I don't think its memorable.

Snyder cut has a ton of great in it for me. I think its actually paced pretty well but it still jumps around a looooot more than I would like the first half. Granted he had so much ground to cover in 4 hours, which still wasn't enough time imo to introduce a lot of new characters and themes. I still really like the last hour of the snyder cut. Its just epic AF and looks down right amazing.

Same here. I’d love for them to release the original trilogy in 4K, but Disney is dragging their feet with older releases, and something tells me it also has to do with the whole Depp/Heard situation. Hopefully not too much longer.

I love T2 but, how much of that is "new"? Are all the documentaries the same as we got on the Skynet Edition & Deluxe DVD etc etc over the years?

Other than the 4k version of the movie, what is new?
