Grand Theft Auto 5 & GTA Online Delayed to March 2022 (also, Trailer)

So silly of me expecting to see same level of upgrade as with ps3 to ps4 versions. Tbf I would need to be pointed to the things what was improved after watching this, minus the 60 fps.

They should have remastered GTA IV instead. That was the last good GTA with a well-written story, fun physics and gameplay set in Liberty City.
I disagree on the story, GTA IV's story was highly overrated IMO, maybe if the voice actor didn't sound like Shrek with an accent it would have come across better. I loved the two DLC expansions though, they were both very well done. I would have loved to have seen that whole collection remade though, built it up to current graphical standards and leave the physics how they were, and then make GTAV higher res, add HDR and 60fps and push out some LOD and it'd be fine.

I hoped Sony would not show it in the event And instead have stuff like smaller 3rd party games.

I honestly think that R* paid Sony to advertise their game in the show.

This is going to sell, meaning Rockstar can milk it even further.

Looks like shit but then again its an upres of an ancient game at this point.

For comparison, when they actually had meaningful upgrades that people would buy a new version for:

There is no substantial update. If there's one they would have showed it.

That's why they showed the nearly seamless character Change Speed. What a joke.

Advertising how fast now you can change
between the characters. Pathetic.

I now predict the same for Witcher 3.
I'll be honest, not the biggest fan of tw3 but if I have to choose, 100% that instead of a 9 years old game who plays on fucking microwaves too, and kids infested

Only one game in history has the power to be everywhere and always feel fresh, and it's re4

Gta V overstayed its welcome by a country mile

Rockstar

ships GTA5 on PS3 in 2013

PS3 and PS4 have fundamentally different architectures
makes ports more difficult
still did it on time, 12 months after initial launch

ships GTA5 on PS4 in 2014

has literally billions of dollars in constant revenue from GTA5 / online
has like 1000 developers employed (plus outsourcing help)

knows about PS5 by 2018 or 2019 at latest
and PS5 is same core x86 AMD architecture as PS4
backwards compatible, ports are easier than ever

decides to port GTA5 to PS5

decides its just a cheap lazy quick 4K60 port
no new assets
no new story DLC
same fucking game still

in June 2020, announces GTA5 port to PS5 for 2021

says nothing more for a long time

waits til September 2021

announces port is delayed til March 2022

LOL

There seems to be at least a sensible pushback on this reveal. From the gtaonline forums and the subs except from the admins/mods. There is very, very little I can take from these quick cut reveals that makes me think this is anything but a giant troll. The trailer was even 30fps. All the trailers have been inconsistent with footage from different generations and versions mixed in. They have never had a preorder go live and it's been delayed again. Don't forget the Gen 8 upgrade came with FPV, graphics update which split the online.

Remastering has always been a part of the strategy. We've done differently than the competition - we don't just port titles over, we actually take the time to do the very best job we can making the title different for the new release, for the new technology that we're launching it on. We improve the technology, we upgrade the visuals, and we make performance enhancements. And that's why I think our remastered titles typically do so well.
This is what Zelnick said at a recent conference.......

I really hope no one buys the campaign and those who play the online element just claim the free upgrade on PS5 and Xbox players either get it at a discount or gamepass redemption for the same period. Honestly right now I'm more likely to invest my time in Saints Row rather than rebuy GTA V.

It's good to see there is serious pushback on this. If there were at least some SP DLC then maybe I could see it but it's just a slightly more polished version of the PS4 game. I don't get why Rockstar is so against SP DLC. Almost every stream I saw of RDR2 wanted Sadie or Charles DLC. Why doesn't Rockstar see this?
Correct me if I am wrong but didn't the main writers of the series leave the company? Also, when they are making recurring revenue from GTA Online, why would they waste time with DLC for a 3 year old game?

I think Rockstar understands the expectations that people have for GTA 6 and that game is most likely costing tons of money and resources so they might be using this as a quick cash grab before they have to move on with the new game.

They should have released it in 2019 and even now it would still get a lot of applause. I bet a trailer announcing a Sadie Adler DLC get way more thumbs up than down.

Rockstar still does very well but something they used to have until recently was respect and credibility which is fading and once they lose that the Rockstar name won't mean much anymore.

Times have changed, the only reason we got so many GTA games back in the day was because they didn't have GTA online to create recurring revenue. So they had to release new games to keep making money. But I will say the success of GTA online has really put them in a box.
