Psychonauts 2 not even among top 10 on Xbox top sellers.

Initiate project ”Psychonauts 2 bomba” apply generous amounts of concern.
Psychonauts bombed hard which is a shame because it's an amazing game.

Meanwhile GoT is singing at $70 even though a lot of people said paying that price was bullshit and no one would pay extra for it.
I don't see it on the top 100 on Xbox too. Same for Flight Simulator. Lawn Mowing and Farm Simulator are higher on the list. Are they even top 200? I'm on the 3rd page.

I'm almost at the end of P2 and I think I had more fun playing the first Psychonauts and Grim Fandango.

Sure, but Flight Simulator, Minecraft, and Forza Horizon 4 are on Game Pass as well and they got on the Xbox chart. Not a reflection of the quality of the game (although I haven't played it yet), but maybe a sequel to a game that came out so long ago isn't appealing to many? Not sure.

Yeah, great point. It is a brilliant game but looks to continue to be cursed to be a cult classic.

Such a shame because I would have hoped that the high praise in a quiet period would have incentives people to play it. The writing and overall design and aesthetic makes other games look amateur hour in comparison.

"After 10 months in market PlayStation 5 remains the fastest selling PlayStation platform in history."

You guys, stop buying PS5 and Miles Morales games. I want to buy the game cheaper, and if continues to sell like that it won't drop beyond its current price.

"playstation wins by dollars sales"..."while selling thier console at a loss"
ok
That loss I think it was compensated selling a game or two games sold per console, and for PS4 they have an average of around 14 games per console.

I think they also added that since this summer they aren't selling it at a loss (I assume due to the hardware revision), and their main business isn't to sell hardware, but to sell software for its console.

In any case, when comparing hardware sales it makes more sense to compare them launch aligned, with long periods of time instead of smaller ones like (first 10 months) and with worldwide sales instead of country specific ones.

I wouldn't these 'X console wins' too seriously since it is only a small part of the bigger picture. We still have a long road ahead.

How cheap do you want it? In my country it's online down to 35 and some local stores had it for 10-20 bucks.

Flight Simulator charted on Xbox at #5.

As gamers we want more people to buy games. More games bought can lead to more games getting greenlit 👍
Do you have any evidence that people who 'rent' games like on Game pass don't contribute to game development? Those subs generate money too don't they? Just because Game pass is a newer and different model for game distribution than the traditional retail sales model doesn't mean it can't also provide revenue for game production.

I know that a developer would much rather have their game sell millions before taking whatever MS offers them to put it on the service

I'm sure better revenue would come from a game selling well

Microsoft would rather have someone subbed at $15 a month for 4 months than have them buy a single game for $60 over that 4 months.

Recurring, predictable revenue is the goal.

They want their cake and they want to eat it too. They want ppl to subscribe to GP forever and they want their games to sell to as many ppl as possible

I don't think they expected these low games sales they've been getting though

They why bother putting all their current and future games on Steam?
Absolutely agreed. I have been saying this for so long. MS is spending so much time, money, and effort on Gamepass (rightfully so if they want it to succeed) but at the same time half-assing it by putting their games on retail and Steam.

If they truly believe in Gamepass (subscription model) and have the capacity to fund it for a few years while bearing losses, they need to lock everything behind Gamepass exclusively. No retail sales, no Steam sales, nothing. People say Gamepass is the "Netflix of gaming", but Netflix does not release DVDs for their Originals. You want to watch a Netflix original? You subscribed to Netflix. There is no other way.

Let's be clear though. Do I want MS to do this? No. Restricting ways gamers can access and play games is not consumer-friendly. But I'm talking specifically from a strategic and business POV.

I give you a like for the Terminator, but please tell me the meaning of sales numbers if half of the potential buyers just rent the games.
Last count had Game Pass with under 20 million subscribers. So half of what?

Yes, 60 million Xbox users (Xbox One + Xbox Series X/S) + 120 million PC gamers = 180 million.

Gamepass subscribers = 18 million (or 10%)

Potential buyers = 162 million users or 90%.

MK8 has got to be close to some sort of world record. GOAT for sure.
Forreal. Last week a friend of mine bought his kid a new switch and the kid wanted nothing but Mario Kart 8. Oddly enough I was going to go get my niece some games for her Switch(her bdays next week) and when I told her to give me a list she said Mario Kart lol.

Mario Kart 8 and Grand Theft Auto V will be selling for ever lol

I highly doubt that there are 120 million PC gamers with good enough PC to play all current gen games.

Also not all games are for all gamers, some just play fifa/cod/whatever only

So, real potential buyers are most likely much smaller number than that.

I'm not sure if this is accurate, but checking the US PS Store now, it's #139 under Most Downloaded and #154 under Best Best Selling.

:(
Yeah, we'll need a few filters to get accurate results: excluding PS+ (Predators Hunting Grounds) and F2P games (Splitgate, Rocket League, etc.). The date range will be another factor.

Also, DoubleFine and Xbox didn't do themselves any favor by not releasing a native PS5 version. We've seen that most sales are on PS5 (when compared with PS4 versions), so the game would have benefited tremendously if there were a native PS5 version.

ok
Every console is sold at a loss at launch. Even Nintendo consoles. At the end of the day, dollar revenue is pretty much how everything else is measured. Box Office is not about ticket sales or profits but how many dollars they movie makes that weekend. Sports teams are not valued at how many tickets they sell, but their overall revenue. You can always compare the profits at their fiscal year results which are public. Nintendo made more profit than Sony last year but also made $8 billion fewer dollars. So who wins? Clearly Nintendo if profits are everything, but Sony has more revenue streams which wallstreet values way more since Nintendo's stock is at $60 and Sony is almost double that at $111.

Ooh yes. So I chose the "Just released" filter and it's now #7 for Most downloaded and #8 for best selling (excluding Super Animal Royale from both lists since it's free)! MUCH better :D

Yes I know it's still not accurate but it's for the last 30 days and the closest we can get now. Much better than before!

I think this will be a reality to many Xbox games moving forward.
tbh, Psychonauts was never going to sell well. Gears 5 was their last big AAA game and it landed in the top 10 at number 7 in a very competitive month.

  1. NBA 2K20
  2. Borderlands 3
  3. FIFA 20
  4. The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening*
  5. Madden NFL 20
  6. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Breakpoint
  7. Gears 5^
I suspect Forza and Halo will both land in the top ten, but they wont be doing prior gen numbers for sure due to gamepass.

Luckily, Microsoft's goal isn't to turn everyone into Game Pass subscriber:

"It's not like I've got a crystal ball and I can tell somebody what GamePass is going to look like in five years. What I can say is that our motivation is not to turn everybody into a subscriber. We think it's an option for people. We're not pulling our games out of retail. In fact, we've expanded. We put them on Steam. We have some games in the [Epic Games Store]. We are out there to give more options to go buy our games. We obviously support free-to-play games, which don't have a big role today in Game Pass."

On topic: I was surprised not to see Psychonauts 2 in charts, when it's of such a quality game. To be fair, it's a game that I probably wouldn't have bought/tried based on screenshots alone. Didn't look like my kind of game, but I'm glad I tried it (GP, of course), since it's quite addictive once you start playing it.

Though I understand, it game pretty late to market regarding August charts (25th), so it didn't have much time for sales. I guess the crowdsourcing sales aren't counted, either.

I meant with potential buyers people who would have bought the game even without Game Pass and not all the >3 billion gamers in the world. Fact is with Game Pass we don't have meaningful numbers anymore that indicate how much people like a game. Maybe we get the player numbers sometime, but even this number is meaningless since we don't know how many people uninstalled it after 5 minutes and how many people only played it because of Game Pass. Me for example. By the looks i would have never bought it. Tried it on Game Pass and it's my GOTY.

As gamers we want more people to buy games. More games bought can lead to more games getting greenlit 👍
Times change and additionally to movies/series on Blu Ray/Dvd we have many of those in Netflix, Amazon and so on. Many views/players on subscription services can also lead to more games/movies/series getting greenlit
